I don't think so, and that's too bad. He didn't play the entire preseason, which, even if he were healthy, would make it difficult for a rookie to all of a sudden get into a game and know what he is supposed to be doing. Nonetheless, it would be good to see how he can contribute when he's ready

If there are, they will be minor, for the most part. Just a depth addition. Safety would have been one area, but they know they are going to get Damontae Kazee back at some point after wrist surgery

Good question, but I think Sims made the team for now because Calvin Austin has been hurt and not played. When Austin is healthy enough to return, I think you will see them move on from Smith.

With the depth of the WR Room, is Claypool being dangled out as trade bait to get an upgraded OL?  Seems he is the logical choice given the upside of Pickens similar skill set.

I don't think they want to make a decision on Claypool just because George Pickens has looked good in camp and preseason. I think they will wisely wait to see what Pickens does in the regular season when defenses will scheme against them and him. That doesn't mean Pickens won't continue to do some really good things. I think he will. But now is a bit premature to get rid of Claypool.

There is no "plan" when or if to start Pickett. They will make that move when it is necessary, if it is necessary

I guess there is always an outside chance they could talk Maurice Pouncey out of retirement, too. I think you have already seem the only offensive lineman they are going to add in Jesse Davis.

There is no "designation to return," per se. Any player on IR can return at some point, up to eight players I believe

Hello.  Thank you as always for the chat. Do you expect another addition to OL? Also, do you think that new addition, Davis is really an upgrade over Joe Haeg? They both appear to have similar resume and may be Haeg has more experience and now he got some suitors lined up for him. Were you surprised that they would let Haeg walk away, even though he has a familiarity with the OL scheme?  Thank you very much.

The only thing I can tell you is they obviously believe Jesse Davis is a better fit than Joe Haeg. We shall see. But, I don't believe they will add another Olineman, unless there is someone they believe is better than Davis.

Gerry, good morning!  I saw a pic of Jesse Davis playing Right Tackle (his best position) for the Dolphins and the LOLB blew by him like he was a Mr. Rogers statue.  I can't believe the Steelers are at this lowly point.  Your thoughts??

It's tough finding good backup linemen. Heck, some teams have trouble finding starting linemen, let alone backups

Gerry, it used to be defensive backs that the Steelers could not draft correctly.  Now, it seems, that the Steelers management team can't draft Offensive Linemen, unless you are referring to their amount of smell emanating from the "trenches"!  Your thoughts?

Well, Kev, the problem is where they are drafting them. They haven't drafted an OLinemen higher than the third round since 2012 when they took DeCastro No. 1 and Mike Adams No. 2. One year earlier, they drafted Pouncey on the first round. That's how you build an offensive line. Not with with third- and fourth-round picks.

Kazee was not a regular in the nickel package. They just experimented with that in the preseason. The nickel package will include some combination of Sutton-Wallace-Maulet or Sutton-Witherspoon-Maulet or Sutton-Witherspoon-Wallace.
