OK kids, good morning. We will start our chat in just a few minutes...
9:57
Ok, here we go....

Good morning. Do you see the difference in this season as to a winning record being Coach McCarthy's ability to emulate Coach Tomlin's record in one score games? Coach Tomlin's record in such games is one of the highest in NFL history.
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Maybe with a new coach they will be able to avoid being involved in so many one-score games.

Do you see a drop in turnovers by the Steelers' defense considering a lack of emphasis (at least from an outsider's perspective) on them by the new coaching staff? The Steelers generally ranked high in that category year after year.
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Talking about creating turnovers doesn't create turnovers. Creating turnovers creates turnovers.

Gerry, I'm really tired of seeing Post Gazettte stories about Roman Wilson is "gaining trust". Why don't you dig a little deeper as a reporter, maybe start here?: 1) In the offseason the Steelers sign aging veterans to positions of need (like Valdes-Scantling), and then 2) they draft players at those same positions, but 3) they don't let their draft picks play because an "experienced" player is ahead of them whom they "trust". Isn't that what really happened with Roman Wilson and so many other draft picks? Even Kaleb Johnson? Maybe the Steelers brass simply don't trust themselves? Why don't you take a real crack at this "trust" issue?
Gerry Dulac

My suggestion Bill is not read stories then about "gaining trust." And I appreciate the starting points for me to dig deeper.

If Bryce Young goes in a losing streak for the Carolina Panthers and throws a lot of interceptions, do you think Kenny Pickett gets some starts and the Steelers come to regret cutting him loose?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
The only person regretting Pickett getting cut should be Pickett. He derailed his career by wanting a trade.

What week will Max take over RT?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Soon. It won't be long
Mike
10:02
When will PG give Bill in LA his own chat?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
We're working on it. Problem is, we're worried he won't get any questions

Given that Jets top draft picks Geno Smith and Sam Darnold later became starting quarterbacks, why is no one looking at Zach Wilson as a potential starter? He has a history of some fabulous games and a great arm and moves well.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
He also has a history of some woeful games. But I'll give the great arm and mobility part

Good morning Gerry, do you see the RBs with a 50-50 split of the workload or will one of them be the definitive lead back?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
I think it's going to depend on the game plan, the type of team they are playing. I think it's going to be a lot of 1 and 1A, depending on the opponent.
Andrew in ATL
10:04
Assuming JPJ is in the fold, does Samuel Jr eventually take over the other starting CB spot? He looked very good in coverage in pre season.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Well, so did Jamel Dean. Samuel has looked very good and I think he has earned himself more playing time, even if 24 and 35 are on the field at the same time

GM Gerry, thanks for the chats. I was surprised Max didn't get the starting job. How long before Iheanachor starts? I think this was a great pick, and I think he'll be a stud in the years to come.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I agree. And it won't be long. You will see him get worked in there right away.
Scott via Louisville Ky
10:06
Do you think the Steelers risk a loss week one because the  starters in the secondary have not played in a game together?  The last thing I want to hear about is communication issues as an excuse.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Scott, hate to tell you but just about every team is in the same boat. Many teams don't play their regulars in the preseason, so they face the same potential problems when the regular season begins. But I hear you on the same communication issues, which really aren't issues. They are excuses.
Mike
10:07
How do you think this Joey Porter situation is going to end up?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I think it's going to end up with him getting a contract. He doesn't have any leverage in the matter and will only be hurting himself financially.
Takoma Tom
10:08
If Tomlin coaches in the future will the Steelers be entitled to compensation?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Not after this year
Ron
10:09
1st, I think it was a mistake to sign Benton to extension right away instead of saving that money to help sign Porter to extension, & also who is going to be healthy to start in the defensive back field
Gerry Dulac
10:09
If that's the case, then it was a mistake for Porter to wait this long to sign -- if he signs.
Big Ed
10:09
Do you believe the offensive or defensive line holds the keys to the season?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Good question. Easy to say both. But the D-line can get help from the LBs. The OL doesn't have the same luxury.
Bill Cowher
10:11
Gerry, thanks for the chats. Do you see the porter deal done before game time and does jpj play like a 30 mill corner out of the gate?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I think when he gets out there, he will play more like a $26-$28 million CB. But it might take him a while to shake off the financial rust
Greenwood
10:12
Gerry, is Pittman set to go as the #2 wideout, or do you think we'll see Wilson in that role against Atlanta since he's had more work with Rodgers due to Pittman's injury?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Pittman.
Andrew in ATL

Wetjen, did not appear to have much explosiveness to his returns. He had 1 nice TD return but otherwise seemed very average. Was he showing more in practice than we saw in games?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Special teams practice reveals NOTHING. What you have seen is all there is to judge.
Tampa Too

Gerry. Did you watch the Walker cup? Even though the United States lost, I thought it was great theater. Perhaps in the long run it’s best that Great Britain and Ireland won because it makes it seem more competitive going forward.
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Bingo!
