The older Cameron Hayward gets, the worse and worse the Steelers defensive line seems to get. How would you compare the level of his play in the last year or two compared to 14 years ago when he came into the league?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Well, I would say he was named first-team All-Pro last year so someone must think he's still playing at a very high level.

If Steelers were to make change at LT wouldn't Week 6 after the bye week be a likely time? Jones was terrible but I suspect team will give him a few more weeks to show improvement. Thanks for your enjoyable chats.

Let's give it some time to see what happens going forward. I know one thing, the Steelers aren't just going to sit by and watch their 41-year-old QB be under pressure like that

Gerry: considering how last year finished and his play on Sunday, is Cam Heyward just no longer an above the line NFL player at 36?
Gerry Dulac

One game after no training camp. I'll wait

Gerry thanks for your coverage & chats. Based on feedback from media/reporters, the defense didn’t change their defensive scheme until late in the Jets game. This seems to be another example of Tomlin being out coached. Add all the instances of similar instances in playoff losses, is AR2 aware of how often Tomlin is out coached or does he simply choose to ignore it? Thanks

I didn't see where media/reporters say the Steelers changed their scheme late in the game. You mean because they got one three-and-out before their winning FG drive?

How likely is it the Steelers acquire Tyreek Hill or another wide receiver?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Not likely, especially Hill

Hi Gerry. Do the Steelers fix the run defense this week versus the Seahawks, and/or find a run game on offense? If not, can they still win like they did against the Jets.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Those were the two biggest deficiencies in NY. The run defense is more troubling by far. That they won against the Jets because of that is testament to Rodgers, the offense and Arthur Smith play-calling

So, if players can’t make a shooting gun, throat slash or even a nose wipe motion on the field, should MT be fined for calling Boz a serial killer at his presser after the game?

It was not a good choice of words

Hi Gerry, why should we be more excited about this offensive performance than we were after what we thought was going to be an offensive breakout last season vs the Bengals? Do you think it's more sustainable this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
After they were averaging nearly 29 points in that seven-game stretch that included Bengals' outburst, I thought that was sustainable. I think they have more toys to play with this year

Field goals of 55-60 yards are becoming routine. Why are kickers so good now? Training? Technique?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Yes, all that. Greater leg strength and speed

Do you think Harmon will be available for week 3 ??
Gerry Dulac

Yes

Why do you think neither Roman Wilson nor Darnell Washington got a target on Sunday?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
Just the way it worked out for that game. Doesn't mean that will always be the case

Happy Wednesday Gerry - now that Johnson and Pickens are gone you can see the impact of Azzani on that wr room. Selfless hard work and better route running .thoughts ??

I'll wait more than one game before I start handing out gold stars. But it might have something to do with having Metcalf and Calvin Austin III being another year older

Mornin’ Gerry! Do you think the failure (at least for three quarters of game 1) of our run defense was more attributed to rust, personnel, scheme or all or the above? I hope we’re not hoping that our number one draft pick will get healthy and “poof” everything gets better.
Gerry Dulac
10:23
The Jets offensive line or running backs didn't look rusty, did they? And you're right, one guy isn't going to suddenly change everything, though he will help. But it's why I continue to say they shouldn't be done using a high draft pick again this year on a D-lineman. One injury and it's back to using Isaiah Loudermilk as a starter. What's that say??

Thanks for doing the chats.  Do you think Roman Wilson is going to be worked in more or is this just how it is going to be with all the TE's out there?  Or will it be a game to game thing based on matchups?  I was really excited how he looked during the preseason.
Gerry Dulac
10:23
No, he'll be in there. A lot of it is game plan. Give it time

Even with Broderick Jones' struggles at LT I don't think the current backups on the roster would be any better in that role.  Best option if they wanted to shake things up would be to move Troy over to LT but it appears Tomlin wants him to stay at RT.  Tampa Bay ended up moving their center to LT to fill in this past weekend.  He was a LT in college like Troy was.  What do you think should happen?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Well, I agree, I don't think the backups are a viable option. Let's see what happens next couple weeks before we start shuffling the O-line

Gerry, love the chats and your accurate reporting. My question is do you think Darnell Washington will continue to see his snaps be diminished now that he is TE3?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
No I don't. That was just part of the game plan for the Jets to throw and attack

10:26
Gerry, any fire to this smoke about Tyreek Hill being traded to the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
Not that I'm aware.

Gerry, what is the Steelers patience level with Broderick Jones?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
It's still good....for now
SteelMan

Do you think thus will be Broderick last chance to improve before they replace him?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
Not at all
Jeff
10:27
If Broderick Jones has a repeat performance of Week 1, what are the odds of the Steelers sitting him? Having a 41 year old and having him at LT seems like a recipe for disaster.
Gerry Dulac
10:27
And replacing him with...???
