Do you think the run game can be really effective this season? With the 3 backs we have, this could be one of the NFLs both backfields.

Well, just like with some of my earlier answers, I'm not going to make any rash judgements, good or bad, after one game. But I think they have some diversity in styles in that backfield that could work effectively, if need be, game to game

Hi Gerry - Why so little use of tight ends on Monday? Any idea how often a pass was thrown with both TEs on the field?

Well, let's see, Ebron played 40 snaps and McDonald played 38. Ebron and McDonald were reach targeted twice. So they weren't involved much. But the wide receivers were and a lot of that I'm sure was contingent on the defense the Giants were showing. I'm sure that will change going forward, depending on the looks Ben is getting.

Gerry, other than the move to get Hawkins back in the fold, did you see anything in just one game that makes you think the Steelers need to make a move to shore up depth at any particular position?

Only if there are injuries. And I was told yesterday the Steelers DID NOT sign Hawkins from the Texans practice squad. That national report was not correct...at least, not right now. I do expect them to bring in a tackle for the PS

Maybe a little of both. But maybe that's why we don't see a lot of throws to him.

Have to disagree with you on your response on Roethlisberger being sacked --- it seems logical to me that if everyone's covered, you throw it away instead of taking a 12-yard loss. To me, Roethlisberger has a playground mentality that he can make something happen if he waits long enough. I don't get it why he has consistently taken sacks and put the offense in a big hole instead of throwing it away. You're going to lose a down anyway, but don't make the yardage worse.

I'm guessing they were conservative at the beginning to get Ben comfortable. But like always, he seems to pick it up when the offense picks up its tempo. I'm assuming you'll see the O start with a faster tempo, or because of our D, they'll play a little more conservative than the Bell/Brown days?

I understand the point about unity regarding AV’s action. I would question the selection of the individual that the rest of the team chose to honor when I’m sure there are others who deserve it.  Was this an organizational decision or something that the players decided themselves since they all picked the same person.

I think the players discussed it among themselves and decided this is what they were going to do. Cam heyward said today he was "surprised" Al didn't go along with it.

Hi Gerry -   I did not notice D Watt on special teams.  Any chance a McFarland gets a hat over D Watt if he remains invisible on special teams?

If by noticing you mean he wasn't out there, you are not noticing, He was out there for all 19 special teams plays, more than any other player. And there is NO CHANCE McFarland or anyone will get a hat, as you like to say, over Watt.

I know its early but I think Highsmith getting snaps on defense this early is pretty good sign especially for a 3rd round rookie. Your thoughts?

Well, they want to get a look at the guy in real game action. And they do that because they think he will be really good and they want to get him some snaps.

I was and it was different for sure. Watching through my binoculars was no different -- I focus only on the action. But no crowd noise to react to a big play was odd, to say the least
