It still was a boring game, but I'm with you. That was the most positive element to come out of the game, aside from the return of 90 and 88

What/who could we get for JPJ? Volunteers not hostages...
Gerry Dulac
10:32
No. 3 pick?

Wondering when you ar going to post your NFL Predictions for the week? Normally done on Thursday but last week not to  Sunday.
Gerry Dulac
10:33
I think that's the way they are doing it this year. I don't decide that but I will pass along your point
Stairway to seventh seed

Gerry:  the Steelers played a lot of 2-5 defense with Herbig in an as an extra LB and only two DLs.  Did this surprise you against a team who could only beat you with the running game and do you think they would have done that if Herbig was still on a 4th round contract?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Herbig got a new contract because they knew they were going to use him more this year, not the other way around that you suggest. So I wasn't surprised.

Hello Gerry,  Looks like the Steeler defense didn't have the usual communication issues we would always hear about.  It's a small sample but very encouraging!  I can see the inside backers flourishing, especially Payton Wilson under Patrick Graham.  If he stays health, he'll be in line for a big payday!!  What's your take?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
You're probably right, though I don't know how big. I know this, they never intended to extend Queen this year, so they're not going to let Wilson walk away too. He has one more year left on his deal after this season, so it's likely he will be one of the players who will get a new contract before 2027 training camp.

Good God DK metcalf's hands...
Gerry Dulac
10:37
I think a lot of people were saying that after the game

10:38
How did the Steelers pay a guy 30 million a year who has defensive back hands? This isn't a new thing. He couldn't catch in Seattle either.
Gerry Dulac
10:38
Now you're getting somewhere

Will the Steelers live on their old way of "we want volunteers, not hostages" stance with JPJ and trade him away?  Or will they start to fine him for missing games once he is deemed "healthy"? Trading him for a mid pick like a 3rd rounder just seems to be bad business on all ends.
Gerry Dulac
10:40
They can't fine him if he continues to say he has back pain. There are no blood tests to determine levels of pain, so they can only go on what he says. I don't think the Steelers are eager to trade him right away, but not for the reason you might think. But if a GM comes with a really good offer, now that's different. Remember they got a No. 2 pick for Chase Claypool, which, as irony would have it, turned out to be Porter

Good morning Gerry.  On the LPJ (Lev Porter Jr) failed negotiations the word on the street was fully guaranteed money as the issue.  Was it an undervalue of the player by the Steelers, an overvalue by the player, not understanding the leverage aspect of negotiations poor advice by all involved?  Both sides didn't want to blink so here we are.
Gerry Dulac
10:44
Did you say over-value? And think about it, if he is offered, let's say, $27 million, and wants three years guaranteed, that's $81 million. So is that over- or under-valued? You tell me

Gerry/.  Relative to the expectations you developed from activities leading up to game 1 what about offense differed from your expectations?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
The drops. Then again, shouldn't be surprised. But the running game was WAY below what I thought too. Made me long for Kenny Gainwell

Hi Gerry, I recently that there was a Steeler who signed a contract after the first game. That he agreed to a offer that was on the table before t hfirst game.
Gerry Dulac
10:45
That was Darren Perry, way back in 1995 I believe. He signed a new deal two or three weeks into the season
Seattle Yinzer
10:45
Good Morning Gerry!  I found it interesting that McCarthy took accountability for play calling.  Good for him. Did anyone dig deeper on that and what he might have done differently?  Or was it just nice way to not throw anyone under the bus.
Gerry Dulac
10:46
Play-calling gets called into question when receivers drop balls and commit penalties

Gerry. While I am not a decision maker, for what it's worth,I wouldn't trade JPJ at this point if the value is not there.  He isn't making that much money, and his refusal to play is likely going to hurt his future credibility.  You can't prove you are worth 31 million fully guaranteed if you have a weak back that keeps flaring up.
Gerry Dulac
10:49
They're not going to trade him just to trade him. But never discount a trade if the offer is right, especially in these situations. This isn't a case of the Steelers not wanting to sign him. This is not a case of the Steelers low-balling him and not moving off their offer. You should be able to figure out the rest
DJ
10:49
It seems odd that the Steelers are paying DK $33M/yr and seemingly unwilling to approach that number for JPJ who is arguably a better player at more premium position and several years younger...what am I missing?
Gerry Dulac
10:49
Just that I believe
RollingRock33
10:49
Is a contract extension a rewrite of the current year? or is it just the Signing bonus that they get immediately?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
It's a brand new contract that includes a signing bonus that counts against the salary cap. That's why it's not an extension. The contract is the contract
DJ
10:51
If JPJ is worth what he thinks he is, why is no team offering the Steelers a trade package along the lines of what the Jets got for Sauce, or what the Chiefs got for McDuffie?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Maybe because they, like the Steelers, don't believe Porter is Sauce or McDuffie
Yates
10:52
Gerry - Does Metcalf need to be used differently? Too many 50 50 routes for s WR that is average at best for contested catches.
Gerry Dulac
10:52
No. They use him on all manners of routes at all different positions.

10:52
Gerry, the Steelers have played the Pats poorly over the years, in big games and regular season and especially in NE.  The Steelers had good teams but why do you think they underperform?  Can they change it this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
You mean like last year when they have five takeaways and beat the Patriots before they went on their Super Bowl run. They didn't under-perform before that. Tom Brady just performed.

10:54
do you think a contender would offer a first round draft pick for Joey Porter If they suffer an injury at cornerback early on?
Gerry Dulac
10:54
No. If they did, the Steelers would jump!!
Lou
10:54
Gerry, what do you think of the OL in regards to the run game? Maybe they need a few games to get in the flow?
