OK kids, let's get our chat started...Go!!

Is there bad blood between the Steelers Joe Haden that caused him to retire a Brown?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Not at all. He spent most of his career with the browns, tho I am a bit surprised he didn't retire as a Steeler.

Is John Stallworth still a part owner of the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac

Yes

Does Ike Taylor have an official role in the Steelers Origanzation?
Gerry Dulac

No.

Hi Gerry, what is the situation with Loudermilk and Calvin Austin? The former was supposed to have a breakout year in this season, right? And the latter might add some sparks to this offense.
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Yes. Both are injured. Loudermilk has been out longer than anticipated and that's too bad. They were expecting a big breakout from him. And Austin is on IR, which means he has this game and next week before he can return. And that's too bad because I'm afraid this will end up being a wasted year. He didn't play in any preseason games and missed all that camp time. Tough for a rookie to play catch-up during the regular season.

The Steelers spent months deciding on who their GM would be before Colbert retired.   But the OC position seems to get a lot less consideration and vetting by the Steelers front office.   One could argue the OC position has a much greater impact on the team winning football games.   Is there a big imbalance there?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
What there is is a big difference. The GM position gets vetted, if you will, by the owner. The OC gets vetted by the head coach. But I get you point (I think).

Hey Gerry. It seems as though Mitch isn’t always allowed to audible. Isn’t it kinda crazy to not have a backup play for the QB to switch to and also to just think your pro QB can’t even decide for himself at the last moment?  How common is it for vet QBs to experience this situation?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
It is uncommon. He is a six-year veteran. He is the guy on the field. He is the guy who has a feel for what's going on and can actually see the defenders lining up and moving out of the huddle, It seems crazy to me. Now, understand, QBs have checks within each play. But, not being able to get out of a play you know might not work seems very limiting to me.

Gerry,  If you are going to show patience why not do it with Kenny?  It is not if he will be starting just when.  This is not a Super Bowl team.  Being mediocre and drafting in the mid rounds will keep you there.  Kenny needs the reps and if he is a star it will shine quickly.  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
They are interested in showing patience. They are interested in winning. That's the name of the game in the NFL. This isn't college where you build for next year. They have made a decision what gives them the best chance to win ....for now. That might change later. But they're not just going to give KENNY reps because it will be good for him.

How or when can you notice that a locker room is divided? How or when can you tell that some players want Mitch and others Kenny as QB1?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Trust me, it is not. That stuff happens with 0-8 teams.
Ike Steelheart
10:12
Hey Gerry, if Ben invites you to his podcast show would you go?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Depends what he wants to pay me for an appearance. joy

Gerry   Just curious about the players who are deemed inactive for a game (ie Mason Rudolph)   Do they roam the sidelines?   Do they stay home?   What is their role if any.
Gerry Dulac
10:14
No, they are on the sidelines. If you can see, Mason spends time standing with Pickett.

Thanks for the chats.   If Trubisky loses his job over the next few weeks, don't you think there is an argument to let Mason Rudolph have one more chance to succeed before throwing Kenny Pickett into the fire and perhaps setting him up for failure behind a defective offense?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Sure, there is an argument, and not a bad one. But at this point don't think that's going to happen. I'm not sure they would move Rudolph to No. 2 and demote Trubisky to No. 3

Gerry    Everyone was saying how Canada's offense was predicated on a mobile quarterback.  I saw Aaron Rogers run for a first down on Sunday night on a designed play.  Why have we not seen Trubisky do any of this?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I think you might see more of that. But, don't forget now, that is a surprise element with Rodgers. I'm sure Bears weren't exactly expecting him to run. Teams are more inclined to think Trubisky will run, more so that Rodgers

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  Tough to see on TV if/when receivers are getting open.  Are they and Mitch not hitting or is no one getting separation?  One more week of this and I dont see the diva WRs keeping quiet.  It has already started though at least in a respectful way
Gerry Dulac
10:19
All I know is that I see Trubisky throwing passes to receivers who are tightly covered and not open. Now, maybe that's on him for not finding the open receiver. But, have you ever in the history of the NFL heard a receiver claim he is never open??? They always think they are open. They think they are Sheetz.

Will the Steelers turn to Kenny Pickett if Mitch Trubisky plays like he did against New England and they lose in Cleveland?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
No

Gerry   Do you think James Harrison is Hall of Fame worthy?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
No. Because his body of work wasn't prolonged enough. But he was a tremendous player.

Why won't Tomlin fire Canada and why does he keep hiring inept offensive coaches? The last good one was Munchak and that was years ago.

Haley wasn't bad

The Browns had a patchwork OL but still ran the ball well.  Is their patchwork OL better than the Steelers starters? Is Chubb that much better than Najee? Is it due to something else?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
I wouldn't call their line patchwork. If it is, those are pretty good patches. But, it's also the system, the type of running attack they employ, lot of zone blocking.

Hi Gary - What are the chances the Steelers could feed Kenny into a Slash role this year?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
None

I was surprised by the collapse of the Ravens defense. Does that give hope for the Steelers?  Which gets fixed first, the Ravens defense or the Steelers offense?
Gerry Dulac
10:26
I don't think the Ravens are the Steelers' chief concern. It will still be the Bengals.
Tom
10:26
Gerry, thanks for all your coverage. I understand the need to be patient 2 games into the season when you have a new QB, 2 new OL & a rookie starting WR.
But, we’re seeing the same incompetence from the OC that was so evident last season. We know we’ll get the same BS from Tomlin but what is your sense of Khan’s or Rooney’s thoughts/mindset?  Surely, they’ve been around the game long enough to know OC incompetence when they see it?  Thank you.
