Ok, kids, we will start our chat shortly after 11, soon as I get back from the locker room. So get ready...
11:04
Ok let's go.....

How confident are you that OC Fincher(sp.) will keep the wildcat and the creativity of the play calling? was That a team specific scheme or a season long plan???
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I think it was a one-game scheme thing, but that doesn't mean it won't show up again, maybe just for a play or two, not seven like they did against the Bengals. Remember when the Miami Dolphins used the Wildcat all the time with Ronnie Brown? Don't think you're going to see that again, but it worked this time.
Kyle
11:07
Do you think they will try to cover the TE Andrews with Bush or Barron, or maybe Fitpatrick?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
I got a feeling it will be more w Edmunds and/or Fitzpatrick, but the Ravens actually like to use all three TEs. Too bad the Steelers don't have one of them.
Kyle
11:08
Between Jackson and Ingram, the Ravens have a strong ground game.  Do you think we will see more of the base defense this game?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Maybe, but don't count on it. The Steelers like to use their sub packages a lot, even against run teams, because they want to prevent the big pass plays. And the Ravens will attaxck downfield with their two rookie receivers.
DJPAULHOWARD
11:09
What will Barron's role be once Williams returns which i believe is very soon? He played better Monday and I know Bush isn't gonna leave the field. So what do you think will be the plan moving forward???
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I think you will see them rotate the three players, using Williams as much as they can in run situations. But, yes, I agree, Barron had his best game to date against the Bengals

Thoughts on Sunday’s game? Sort of feel like the ravens are still being slightly overrated. What have they proved thus far? Crushed the dolphins and barely beat cardinals at home?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Agreed. Their two wins are against winless teams who are a combined 0-7-1. And they've allowed more than 500 yards offense in each of their past two losses. I don't think they are the team everyone portrayed them to be two weeks ago

Hi Gerry, enjoy your chats.I don't know if I missed something concerning Ben's injury in the Seattle game. Has he been hiding this or
Gerry Dulac
11:12
No, it's been something that has been bothering him as he got older. It was bothering him after the NE game, but not enough to cause him not to play. But he really felt the pain on a pair of throws to 19 in the Seattle game and that's when they knew something was wrong. It wasn't like he threw out his elbow on one play

For more than a year the defense has talked about a lack of communication. What does that mean and why can't they get it fixed — or is it fixed now?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I'm not exactly sure either. I will say "miscommunication" is a euphemism for the player didn't understand the play. But I will say this, the Steelers have four new starters on defense and three are in the middle of the field -- Bush, Barron and Fitzpatrick. So there is going to be a learning and jelling curve for them.

Gerry, how long do you and your cohorts at the PG want Tomlin extended for because he beat the Bengals? I'm figuring you guys will argue that beating the Bengals will earn him an 11 year extension beyond this year that he gets a pass for because Ben got hurt, even though according to you guys Ben was one of the main issues last year...
Gerry Dulac
11:15
I will poll them.

Although the Steelers accumulated quite a few yards rushing due to the use of the wildcat play, the non-wildcat rushing plays were relatively unsuccessful. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Whatever it takes. One of the things Randy Fichtner wanted to do against the Bengals was attack the edges of their defense, make them move laterally, and he did that with the Wildcat tosses and jet sweeps. The short forward tosses from the quarterback or Wildcat back are considered "run alternative plays," even though they count statistically as passes. I get your question, but that's like asking other than the counter plays that gained 190 yards, the other runs weren't so good.

The running back 1-2 punch sure looked effective Monday night.  Did Tomlin give any indication If that approach will continue. if that approach will continue?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
They would be stupid if they didn't continue to use Jaylen Samuels. He didn't have a touch in SF and, well, I think they realized that was a big mistake.

What is your opinion on the offensive game plans so far?  Mason is no stranger to throwing down field and arguably one of his strengths. I believe we are seeing a commitment to the run  game vs being afraid to let him sling it!
Gerry Dulac
11:23
They are not afraid to let him sling it, it's just that you and everyone else are accustomed to seeing Ben, who has more control of the offense, sling it. I don't have a problem with what they're doing. They're trying to get him involved in the game, get him some confidence with those short high-percentage passes. Goodness, it was only his second NFL start. Give it time. It will evolve.

Lotta hand-wringing about JJSS not getting the ball more....just because he is the top dog now doesn't mean they have to have to artificially force the ball to him, does it? That was the issue with AB last year, right? Luckily JJSS is not a prima donna asking for it like AB last yr + some fans/media I hear this year.

He will. He will

Clever scheme by Randy though it was a week late. Was it implemented to protect Rudolph or was it something he saw in the Cincy defense that can be exploited?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
As I explained earlier, it was something he wanted to exploit with the Bengals defense.
Jerry
11:24
Thoughts on Pittsburgh not allowing Rudolph to throw down the field against 7,8 and 9 man boxes?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
He is a young quarterback making his second NFL start. He is not a 16-year veteran with two Super Bowls. Do not expect him right now to be the other guy. Those are my thoughts.
Mack
11:25
Boswell seems like a new man compared to last year. We're his difficulties all mental?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
I'm sure they were, though anybody with a mental "issue," whether a kicker or golfer, is never going to admit it. Never.
Mark Walters
11:26
When do you think they’ll take the training wheels off Rudolph? Do you see Monday’s offensive strategy as long term for this season or a weekly plan?
Gerry Dulac
11:26
It was just a weekly, evolving plan. I forget, did he throw a 43-yard TD to Diontae Johnson or was I dreaming??
Steel one
11:26
Is it true the Steelers need to cut Moncrief before week 10 for an anticipated 3rd comp pick? What do you think the Steelers will do here?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
Not true. You only get a comp pick when you lose a player in free agency, not when you cut one.
John
11:27
It seems that Samuels is producing more than Conners and not fumbling. Is he the starter now?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
No
Urban
11:27
Devin Bush looked like he was 10 times better than he had been. Is that a product of experience?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Well I wouldn't call 4 NFL games "experience," but I think you will slowly see him get better with each passing game as he becomes more comfortable.
