I hear ya, but he is called that because he will get in -- two Super Bowl appearances, one SB win, 16th all-time in victories. He is viewed nationally in a much different light than what Steelers fans think of him

Happy Wednesday Gerry! Are we seeing a Marvin Lewis new version with Mike Tomlin? Seems like the same behaviors are seen in the most recent times. Ill prepared  against teams (JAX and CLE on playoffs, but now is more occurrent in regular season), No coaches adjustments on half time and the newest low we are not prepared to recover from an early lead
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Never thought of that. At least Tomlin has won playoff games, though it's been a while

Finally, MT has an excuse to depart from MC.  Could this burner phone scandal be what provides MT a reason other than 'I made a bad choice in hiring him' to send MC packing?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
Did he need any??

10:30
Did Mike Tomlin just say they lost because of physicality?  They were badly outschemed by SF and Houston, everybody saw that.  When will he be held accountable for badly getting outcoached?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
And those schemes are very similar, aren't they?? Good ones, too. Steelers had no answer
TBsteel
10:31
I hope Coach T coaches here another 15 years. Just an awesome man and a leader of men who finds a way to get everyone bought in. And he's gonna do it again this year. They will rally to 9-8 and miss the playoffs.  Sure they never win anything, but his cliches make me all tingly inside.  Is that how Mr Rooney feels too?
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Well, TBsteel, I commend you -- either that was heart-felt or sarcasm, and even I couldn't determine which.

Are Tomlin pressers kinda like the movie Groundhog Day? Different turns of phrase, different nonsensical occurrences/excuses, but largely the same day…over and over and over again…
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Bingo!!
Bill
10:33
Pay the man? I think the brutal travel schedule to different time zones in Las Vegas and Houston in one week that including the emergency landing and sleepless night in Kansas City, and then flying to Houston a few days later is what likely sucked the energy out of the Steelers in the Texans game, and there is really to worry about. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
I don't totally agree, but there is something to it, even if it's just a tiny little bit.
Bill
10:34
Let’s take Chase Claypool back from the Bears for a 7th Round Pick, it would be a pretty funny development, let’s give it a try, maybe he learned his lesson and can mostly used as a decoy on the Steelers again, why not?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
Next.
Bill
10:34
Why are you the only Steelers PG writer who is never critical of Mike Tomlin? Are you in the tank because he talks to you in private?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
How did you know??
KillCowher
10:34
Why do all of Pickett’s receivers fall down and jump when trying to catch his perfect passes? Between Mason Rudolph and Kenny Pickett, we’ve got the best couple QBs here since Bradshaw, why won’t they get a better O line and receivers?
Gerry Dulac
10:34
Wow, you're revisionist history needs a little work
Sal
10:35
Hey Gerry Are we seeing more usage of the rookies since this week or are we going to wait until after the bye?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Well, they have to use Broderick Jones and Darnell Washington because of injuries, so yeah. Now if we can only see more of JPJ on the field...

10:36
Just a note. On Earth B, where the goal is not championships, but rather stringing together as many non-losing seasons as possible, the Pittsburgh Steelers have achieved that world’s equivalent of the 70’s Steelers. How do we bring the franchise back?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
That's right....that would be the equivalent of many Lombardi trophies

If Tomlin and his staff believe so strongly in executing the called play as they seem to speak to, why even have a playbook or OC?  Just have one run play and one pass play and execute it well.  Is the real answer that they won’t admit the coaching is the problem so they blame players with the “execute better” line of crap?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Trust me, it's not all Matt Canada. And that's not a defense of him, just the reality
Swissvale72
10:37
Everyone knows the offense is bad, but the defense is a bottom 10 unit right now as well and they’ve allowed over 40 points per game in the playoffs over their last few trips there.  What exactly does Tomlin do well, aside from having a well developed repertoire of BS
Gerry Dulac
10:38
45 points to be exact. Hey, I'm not giving them a pass, not at all, but they spend way too much time on the field because of all the three-and-outs by the offense. But, for the 1,000th time, if you don't think they need to use a No. 1 pick on a defensive lineman, find another Cam Heyward, you don't know what you're looking at.

Gerry - do you think there's a growing sense of frustration amongst Steelers brass? Being out schemed almost weekly and the lack of player development over the years is jarring. Not a good look when a makeshift Texans o-line with K. Greene looks like the better line. The same issues plague this team year after year, but I guess the answer to all the problems is to have a padded practice on a Wednesday. That should fix it!
Gerry Dulac
10:39
Of course there is. Nobody likes what they're watching.

Is Patrick Peterson playing more at outside cornerback with less than stellar results and less in the nickel/slot position than allegedly was the plan in preseason an indication of Joey Porter, Jr not progressing as quickly as anticipated or just a hesitation of Mike Tomlin & his assistants to give major playing time to first year players?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
He's playing more outside than he should be and he's supposed to be playing. That was not the intent when they signed him. They didn't want him on the edge, running with receivers, but there he is. It's not fair to Peterson to put him in positions where he is not the CB he used to be.

Does Khan have authority to fire Mike Tomlin, as most GMs would, or is that move something only ARII would be able to do? I’m asking because it’s clear Tomlin has no intention of making the necessary changes to try to have a successful season and the team won’t improve until he’s gone. Doesn’t anyone in the front office see this?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
No he does not. Only AR2. And how can you help not seeing it??
SP
10:40
Kenny Pickett is not an NFL QB and the very last pick from his draft class Brock Purdy is a far superior QB.  Wasn’t there a rumor the Steelers liked Purdy in the draft process then took two other QBs over him?
Gerry Dulac
10:41
Some of their coaches liked Purdy as, say, a fifth-round pick, which is why it was so shocking when they drafted Chris Oladokun on the seventh round. Ugh
Jay
10:42
Morning Gerry.  John Mitchell was a great DLine coach, often turning mid-low round picks into quality starters.  Dunbar is underperformed.  Tomlin defense has had many dominant showcases, but twice as many embarrassing performances.  This Houston beat down felt like the Jaguar beat down years ago in the regular season before they realized they were good
Gerry Dulac
10:42
Yes he was. And before who realized they were good -- Steelers or Jaguars??
TummayLake
10:42
We all realize Mike Tomlin will never win another SB, but it’s more likely now he won’t ever win another playoff game,  they can’t extend him after this season, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:43
That's really going out on a limb, don't you think?

I’ve never seen Steelers fans worked up into such a FURY as they are right now at Canada and Tomlin. Has Rooney got the message yet or is all this Steeler Fury being wasted?
