OK kids, let's get our chat started. Fire away....

Do you see our recent success as a product of weaker opponents or the team actually getting better and better?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
To a degree, but the Patriots are better than what everyone anticipated, so winning up there looks a whole lot better now. And they didn't just beat the Vikings, a 2024 playoff team, they dominated them. Same with the Browns. Regardless, they are taking advantage of what's in front of them, and that's a good thing

Love the start to the season. Not one of the doom and gloom fans from the last few years, I realize we are not going to go to SB every year. This year is giving me hope, however, I feel like we are still one WR short. CA is a good WR but realistically he is not a number two. If DK went down, we are in trouble. Are they satisfied with what they have or is there not an option to get a number 2 by trade or other means?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
You are right about DK going down -- they're in trouble if he does. I think Omar Khan always has his eyes and ears open to any move that could make them better. And if by the first week of November -- the trade deadline -- they believe they are a legitimate contender, then maybe they make the move that really puts them in position to make a serious run.

I mentioned back in the off-season that Tomlin's comment about "there will be change" could be more about philosophical changes as opposed to changing coaches. Coaches adjusting their ways and doing the job better.

Have you seen anything tangible that indicates that philosophical changes helped the team get off to this 4-1 start?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
That's hard to quantify. Right now, the biggest changes that are obvious are in personnel -- all the new guys they brought in. Now THAT'S change.

Far be it from us fans to be overly optimistic about a road Thursday night road game against a weak opponent, but if the Bengals have had such issues protecting Joe Burrow, how are they going to protect Joe Flacco from what seems to be a peaking Steelers pass rush?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
That is a good and pertinent question

Hey Gerry, at what point do you stop reporting things that aren’t true?  I’m playing this week just fyi
Gerry Dulac

Thanks for the heads-up

Good morning Gerry, It seems things are falling into place for the Steelers this season. The top tier teams suffering injuries, losses to inferior teams, or other miscellaneous issues that Pittsburgh seems to be avoiding to this point. If they stay healthy and win the games that they should, get a decent seeding, this could be a prettty special year. Arrow pointing up as far as an unbiased more than casual observer such as yourself?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
The arrow is pointing up -- for now. As I always do, I will advise it's early. Long way to go. Same reason I'm not counting out the Ravens. Too early

Are the Steelers going to entertain the idea of moving highsmith. Are they going to be in the trade market heavily for a WR2.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I don't think they are entertaining moving Highsmith. And I don't know about being "heavily" in the market for a WR, but I think we have all seen to never say never.

Any hotel recommendations in the San Fran area for the Steelers Super Bowl in Feb?  I'm reserving today.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Just make sure there's a cancellation option

Hi Gerry, Broderick Jones appears to be improving in the eyes of us laypeople. Do the coaches share our sentiment or is it more attributable to the help he is receiving, especially from the "264 pound" TE?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I think the coaches saw it before you did

Hey Gerry! First off I want to thank all the PG sports writers, and especially you for the great coverage of everything surrounding the Dublin game. Many interesting articles. Great job! Also I want to ask if you have seen, in recent history a team player like 88? Is he not a model for team-first regardless how he really feels about being underutilized? Class act for sure.
Gerry Dulac
10:10
He always was and continues to be. His time will come. That being said, I still don't agree with the lack of utilization

10:10
How much more on field production would George Pickens need to provide the Cowboys for the Steelers brass to regret trading him for a 3rd round pick?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
The Steelers knew what they were dealing away. That's because they knew all too well what they had been dealing with. There are no regrets at all. That's Dallas' problem
Andrew in ATL
10:11
How likely is a trade for a WR, and how much of next year's draft capital are they willing to include?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I wouldn't call it likely, mainly because you haven't seen one yet after all the supposed "need" to get one

Did anyone ask Tomlin why his teams are 2-9 on the road on Thursday night and lost 4 straight regardless how bad or good the opponents are? What is he going to do to actually coach the team better on short weeks?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
That's like asking why is he 15-4 after the bye week
Tom in TN

Good morning Gerry,  In watching the game this past Sunday I have to say the defense just gives up big chunks of yards while not giving up big plays.  That approach works against bad teams but good teams will kill them with this approach.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I disagree. If you haven't been even the least bit impressed by what you've seen from the defense the past two games, I don't know what to tell you.

Tomlin is showing once again why he's the best coach in the league.  Always beating expectations.  Is he the leading candidate for coty?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I wouldn't go that far
Andrew in ATL
10:14
It was nice to see Johnson get a few carries this week. Should we expect to see more of him going forward?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
He's hard six carries each of the past two games. Until he shows he's comfortable enough to start making big runs, I think you'll see his workload remain the same.

Gerry you take a lot of grief on these chats which is not deserved.  Thanks for doing this.  You have proven your knowledge of the Steelers and are a valuable asset to the Steelers Fandom
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Actually, I get little grief. I don't, and never have, worry about those who are socially bankrupt
Luke
10:16
Do you think there will be any discussion about moving on from highsmith if the right receiver becomes available
Gerry Dulac
10:16
OK, why the hate for Highsmith?
Sethdaddy
10:16
I heard the Steelers might trade for Chris Godwin. Do you think a 5th round pick would be fair? Need to keep all the 3rd rounders so we can jump into the top 5 or 6 for a qb.
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Really? Where you hear that?
Andrew in ATL
10:16
Is Will Howard participating in practice in any way yet?
