OK kids, we're going to start in just a few minutes, so get ready....

Here we go...

Just saw that the Titans released Tyler Lockett…. Maybe the Steelers should sign him ?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
You mean, like Mike Williams last year? And, given what you've seen from the usage of WRs, where and when are they gonna play him??

9:58
Hi Gerry, year in and year out this defense has proven the same. When players come out and say “we knew the Steelers would be in that coverage because they never change,” this is an indictment of having no answers. Do you really believe Tomlin and his hand puppets have any clue how to fix this over paid defense ?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
Well, the plan was to have Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay join Joey Porter Jr to stop what the Bengals did Thurs night. Of course the Bengals knew what the Steelers were going to do. Everyone did. It was no secret.

Wilson and Feilds both catching strays from Payton and Johnson, your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
That's why lot of people don't like Sean Payton

If you could make one change on each side of the ball to improve the team, what would it   be? Personnel changes are excluded in this exercise.

What's the point then?

Hi Gerry.  Do you think there comes a time when the players stop wanting to play for Tomlin?  Do some of the vets, who have experienced the repeated late season meltdowns and missing so many layups, kind of tune out at some point? I realize it's not apples to apples but we saw it happen at Penn State recently. Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I don't think ANYTHING that happened at Penn State is in any way comparable to whatever you think happens here. But your point about a message becoming stale to veteran players has some merit. But, in today's NFL, especially with the Steelers and the amount of turnover each year, how many veterans stick around long enough with one team where they start to tune out a message. You can only name a handful with the Steelers

I agree with Ben.  Don't you think it's time for Pitt to  get a stadium of their own?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
That's an old story from 30 years ago. That ain't happening

Hey Gerry love your work. 2 questions: Why are we giving Chuck Clark soo much playing time versus Jabrill Peppers? I thought Peppers played well against New England and deserved more playing time but he has been used exclusively on special teams I feel. And what’s wrong with Thornhill? Why can’t he play most of the defensive free safety snaps? Clark was out of position all game in Cincy. Any reason why?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
Apparently, they think Clark is more effective than Peppers, who didn't get a defensive snap. It's not because Peppers is hurt because he played 25 snaps on special teams. As for Thornhill, part of that is because they will use Ramsey at free safety sometimes in their base defense, which they had to switch to at times because the Bengals were able to run the ball.

Why do you block people for disagreeing with you instead of being a mature adult?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I don't block people for disagreeing with me. I block people who show disrespect or use vulgarity. I don't care if people agree or disagree with me. All I can do is tell you what's going on. It's up to you if you want to believe it or not. If not, go follow those "insiders" who, when it comes to knowledge, are on the outside. But thanks for asking

Gerry. I have to admit I was in the camp that wanted the Steelers to keep Fields  and not sign Aaron Rodgers. However, much to my surprise I have come to realize that Mike Tomlin and his staff know more about football than me! Please have a nice day!
Gerry Dulac
10:11
I hate to tell you TT, even though a lot of people don't think this, they know more than you, me and everyone else.

Hey Gerry, the miscommunications that we keep hearing about on the defensive side of the ball, how much of that is on the player(s) and how much is that blame fall on the coaching staff? Seems like that’s the weekly excuse when things go badly with the D
Gerry Dulac
10:12
And that's what it is, Josh -- an excuse. Under the heading "miscommunication" is don't know the play, can't remember the call, I'm not sure of the defense.

Gerry. Thanks for taking the time to chat. I equate the Tomlin haters with your chat haters. Take a deep breath and realize you need to reset your priorities in life. Tomlin is going to the Hall as a coach... And he has certain traits that anger fans (clock management, living in his short yardage fears, unleashing hell in December and entering freefall) Took Andy Reid a LONG time to break himself of a lot of issues and put things in place to mitigate others. Like hiring Spags after his carousel post Jim Johnson years in Philly and letting him run the D... Sound familiar? (Looking at Tomlin and LeBrau...) Am I on the mark?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
For a butcher, you cut right to the meat of the issue. Touche

I have people coming in for the MNF game with Miami. Is this game in the flex window?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Well, flexing it out of prime time could be a possibility

Is Trice getting close to returning? I know he’s no Mel Blount, but he can’t be any worse than what we saw last Thursday.
Gerry Dulac
10:15
He is but I don't know how much he will play when he returns. So, you've already given up on Ramsey, Porter and Slay after one game, eh??

Gerry: Tomlin once again reiterated his narrative that the run defense, turnovers, and penalties were the main culprits for this loss without once mentioning his 31st ranked pass defense that was by far the biggest problem.  He can't really be that clueless, but why is he pushing that false narrative?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Bingo. First off, they committed just two turnovers, both by a QB who had thrown only three all year and one of which wasn't his fault. Also, they are one of just two teams who have not lost a fumble this year. And, as for penalties, they have the second fewest in the league.

10:17
Gerry: it was widely covered that Aaron passed Ben for 5th on the NFL's all time passing yards list, but with his 14th TD throw he also passed another Steeler legend and 1st round pick, Kenny Pickett, on the franchise list for career TD passes.  Where do you think this ranks on his list of accomplishments, maybe somewhere between the Super Bowl win and his 4 MVPs?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
He's here all week, try the veal.
Josh
10:17
I hate to see it happen, especially now that we seem to have a decent offense, but this may be Arthur Smith’s last season as OC. I think his work with Fields, Wilson, and now Rodgers is going to get noticed and he may be a front runner to land that Titans spot or another team. What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
I'm not so sure about the last part. I like Arthur and think he does a very good job. And his ability to adapt to different QBs is to his everlasting credit. In his years as an OC and head coach, he has only had one season where the incumbent QB was returning (Ryan Tannehill).
Josh
10:19
With the QB carousel being what it is in college right now, and a lot of the top prospects at the beginning of the season starting to fall off, do you think the Steelers will try to coax Rodgers into playing one more season if he continues to play well the rest of the way?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Maybe if they get to the Super Bowl
Stairway to seventh seed
10:22
Gerry: The Steelers will pay TJ Watt $41m per year for his age 32-34 seasons.  This is slightly more than the $40.25m that the Bengals will pay JaMarr Chase for his age 25-28 seasons.  Doesn't last week's game really show that paying that amount of money to Watt, the leader of the 31st ranked pass defense, is a gross misallocation of cap resources?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I will tell you that was something of which the Steelers were keenly aware. It falls under the category of what's a wise business decision
Raxman263
10:23
Without Aaron Rodgers, would the Steelers even have a chance to comeback in games while the defense has played so poorly.
Gerry Dulac
10:23
Probably not
