Has Edmunds outplayed a multi-year contract with the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
10:25
I don't know what they are going to do with him after the season, but I'll tell you this -- since the middle of last season he has very good, even better this year. He has been one of their better players.

I haven't given up the dream yet - after the bye with a healthy defense, this team could run the table and sneak into the playoffs. If management believes this, what is the one area they should try to upgrade before the trade deadline?
Gerry Dulac
10:27
I suggest you dial up another dream.

Are Omar Khan and Andy Weidl presently engaged  to any degree with Steelers in-season football team on field & game performance issues? Or are they focused primarily on scouting and other team business activities leaving the former up to HC MT? Should they be involved in how in-season team football playing performance is unfolding?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
Of course they are. They watch every practice, attend every game, meet with Mike Tomlin daily.

Gerry, do you have any opinions you are willing to share about the Art Rooney, Sr racket articles recently published? How did Steelers front office and owners view the articles? Any league interest?
Gerry Dulac
10:28
I would venture to say they viewed it they way you might expect

Gerry, let's talk time management, yet again.  2nd Qtr.  Why in the world did they rush to get a play off before the 2 minute warning?  Yes, they scored.  Strategically, run the ball ONE time after the warning and you are eating away at least 40 seconds.  That ends up giving the Dolphins three valuable points and changes the final drive from "we need 6" to "we need at least 3".

Now there's a perceptive guy!!

Outside of a few guys on defense, it's hard to not believe the cupboard is mostly bare for this rebuild. Am I falling into the gloom and doom trap?
Gerry Dulac
10:30
I don't think the cupboard is mostly bare. In fact, if you look around the league, most teams are never really that far away

Any sense on what the steelers are leaning towards with Austin? Seems like we'd want to get him reps if the playoffs are out of reach, but I don't know if Tomlin would ever accept that
Gerry Dulac
10:33
It will come down to this -- do they want to use up a roster spot so he can develop and maybe get him some playing time late in the season. They really like Austin, but he's missed so much time and never played in a game it is not reasonable to think he will play in a game anytime soon and be able to help the team. Coaches teach and help develop in the preseason, not in the regular season.

Big Ben had a phenomenal rookie year. Could it be that that set up unrealistic expectations for Pickett, at least in the back of the mind of some? The criticisms after so short a time in his first season is puzzling to me.
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Anybody who thinks Kenny Pickett is going to be Ben Roethlisberger is being unrealistic. That's no knock against Pickett or has anything to do with how good he can be. You can't project that on any rookie quarterback. Anyone who thought that is getting waaaaaay ahead of themselves with delirium

Historically, the Steelers lose games they should win and win games they should lose - so will that trend continue in Philadelphia this weekend?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
We'll see. But you're right

10:35
The O-Line played pretty well and the defense really well (except for dropped interceptions); with the return of TJ Watt and a less daunting schedule after the Eagles game, do you see the Steelers in the hunt for a wildcard?
Gerry Dulac
10:35
Not now.

Are offensive players keeping their frustrations among the team or are there rumblings when the mics are off?
Gerry Dulac
10:36
I'm never sure if that noise I hear is the train going by the facility???

10:36
Did the Steelers over react to Ben's retirement by signing Trubisky and then drafting Laldokun in the 7th round, when Mason Rudolph was a more than adequate bridge QB?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
I didn't have a problem with the Trubisky signing. It was the right thing to do. Drafting a second QB with only seven picks was ridiculous and a waste. It did not go over very well internally, trust me
Bill
10:37
Does Gunner have any guaranteed money? He looks like a useless signing, like Ryan Switzer # 2, and should be cut.
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Yes, but only in a signing bonus. It wouldn't cost them much if he were released.

Are the Claypool trade rumors likely coming from his agents?
Gerry Dulac
10:37
Not at all.

Is there a timeline for Kazee's return?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
It should be soon.

10:38
Why was Tomlin not asked about Gunnar replacing Claypool during crunch time ?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
There is no reason to ask that question

Great work sir. With the first overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, the Steelers select...Joey Porter Jr. Am I too far off thinking Tomlin would want to get his best buddies kid? If so, how can anyone take him seriously again.
Gerry Dulac
10:39
I don't know if it would have anything to do with being Joey Porter's son or the fact that Joey Jr is very very good, possibly the best corner in the draft.

GOOD morning Gerry. Not a Steelers question but always wondered why if you are top tier prospect, say Trevor Lawrence. Why would you enter the draft and get picked by a bad team vs just being a free agent right out of the box and get to a team you choose and a contract that isn't set by the league?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
Because you cant be a free agent to enter the league. There is only one way -- through the draft

Hi Gerry....thanks for the chats. Concerned that Austin might become the next Golston....hope you see it differently?
Gerry Dulac
10:40
I wouldn't go that far. Let's hope not

I get wanting to be patient and not make change "for the sake of change" but what possible damage could you do by at least giving play call duties to someone else? I mean Sullivans offesene on 2012 with Tampa was the 13th ranked with Josh Freeman at QB.
Gerry Dulac

Couldn't hurt at all at this point
