OK kids, let's get started with our chat...Fire away

Hi Gerry.  I was happy to hear Tomlin take ownership of that loss.  I thought I might have to take ownership for it because maybe I didn't cheer loud enough.  Were you impressed that he took ownership?  Thanks.
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Taking ownership is a common refrain of a lot of coaches. Doing something about it is something else.

Who would you put your money on if a Tomlin D went up against a Canada O?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Shouldn't that be O Canada?? Oh, wait....

I see Coach T learned a new word this season.  "Component".

And you guys accuse me of being snarky after those first three questions. I think I need a coffee.

OK, I got my coffee. Let's try this again.

Hi Gerry, do you thing the Steelers could add OL depth by Nov. 4? With Isaac Seumalo out for awhile.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
See, that wasn't so bad. No, Steve, I don't expect that because I don't think they expect Seumalo to be out long, if at all. Maybe just this week.

Do you think Derrick Harmon has taken a step back? He seemed as advertised his first couple of games but seems more invisible lately.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
No, I don't think so. I just think it's the way the defense is playing overall. You could probably say that about almost every defensive player after the past two weeks.

Gerry:  Do you think the coaches will allow Dugger to get onto the moving train?  Peppers hasn't been despite the woeful play of Clark and Thornhill.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Yes I do!

Gerry, does Teryl Austin have autonomy over defensive play-calling on gameday?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
What people who think they know don't understand is this is Mike Tomlin's defense. It is his framework, his schemes, his alignment. Teryl Austin is entrusted with calling some if not most of the plays, but not all of them. All he is doing is calling the plays and alignments that exist under the Tomlin framework. That's like blaming the painter for bad paint.

It seems that the Steelers realize it is hard to draft and develop so they’ve given up and largely lean to past prime vets. They get a win on Aaron Rogers, so far, but I just don’t see anything to make me believe they can develop a top QB draft pick or build a young D.  Where can the Steelers possibly go from here that is not just a repeat of the last 10 years?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
I don't think they realize that or think that at all. But they have been in such a state of urgency to win a playoff game that they keep looking for missing (veteran) pieces. Unfortunately, there have been a lot of pieces missing from the jigsaw puzzle.

Gerry:  the Patriots at 6-2 are in a much more favorable position than the Steelers, yet appear to be dumping the salaries of declining vets like Peppers and Dugger.  Just a few weeks ago I was wondering if the Steelers shouldn't go all-in because they might not have a QB this good for many more years.  Now I have to ask if you think the Steelers actually should be net sellers at the trade deadline and try to accumulate picks and roll-over cap space?  Adding Troy Polamalu in his prime couldn't fix this defense.
Gerry Dulac
10:11
That's why they were going to wait and see if they were going to be 6-2 before going all-in on maybe one more significant player. But they might be staring at 4-4 so they are less inclined -- understand everyone, less inclined -- to do so.

Do you think the Steelers would want Rodgers back next season?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
That depends on two things -- 1) Rodgers, 2) how far they get in the playoffs, if they get in.
Steve in Canton
10:12
How would you assess Aaron Rodgers' play through the first 7 games? Better than originally thought, average or worse.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Much better than ANYONE thought

10:13
Is there a QB playing in college now who you could want quarterbacking the Steelers in 2026?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I haven't watched enough of them. I know several, though, I wouldn't want.

Greetings Gerry; all hope is lost, can we start talking about next year’s draft please? Here’s to hoping we draft Drew Allar as our next Mike Tomczak.

Gerry: over the years you are often asked what former Steeler would you most want to add to the current team.  I'll change that up a little bit.  For the rest of this season only, would you rather add Troy Polamalu at safety, Mel Blount at corner, or Dick Lebeau at Def Coordinator?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'll take my man Dick LeBeau. Thanks for the changeup.

Where is RB Kaleb Johnson?

He's here somewhere

Gerry, if Art Rooney was willing to assist Tomlin in major decisions like  the hiring of Todd Haley and recommending of Arthur Smith. Do you think he could the same thing with defensive coordinator and take some of those responsibilities away from Tomlin?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
You mean like with what happened to Matt Canada?
Sam
10:15
Hello Gerry.  Roman Wilson has been more visible these last 2 weeks but I’m wondering if one of the knocks on him that kept him on the bench so long is “weak hands” on contested balls. Yes he had the TD for long enough to get credit, but he didn’t truly hold onto it, and on the phantom no-offsides play he similarly had a ball that got to his hands pried out that could have made the blown call a moot point.
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I think that TD catch alone should refute your point. That was a tremendous play to hold on to that ball, which was actually thrown a little behind him.

Gerry: you have more experience with Tomlin's press conferences than anybody.  Do you find him overly expansive this year when describing the opponent?  He seems to be going into excruciating detail about their schemes and the background of the personnel.  Could he possibly be auditioning through this forum for a network studio or game analyst role in the near future?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
To be honest STSS, it seems the same to me. No more, no less.

Will any of the following players be in Pittsburgh next week after the trade deadline?: Jaylen Waddle, Jakobi Meyers, Chris Olave, Breece Hall, Rasheed Saheed.
Gerry Dulac

Barring an injury, none.
