Good morning Gerry!  I noticed some apprehension from some local radio media this morning on the Dugger trade.  I for one don't get the hate on it, we got the guy for almost nothing and it can't be any worse than watching Chuck Clark get beat over and over again.  How do you feel about the trade on paper?  I understand it's hard to say anything other than that since we haven't seen him play in this system yet
Gerry Dulac
10:19
What's the harm? Dugger is a good, experienced player and they gave up practically nothing. I think he will be an upgrade over what they have.

Gerry, Do you think Mike Tomlin has done a good job this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
After the past two games, not sure that question needs an answer. That being said, I wouldn't judge him after they were 3-1, either. It's a long season. I'll wait

Mr D.  After hearing Coach T comments after the game about everyone coaches etc to blame.  Made me think he sounds just like the average to below average coaches out there. Not very inspiring.   What are your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac

You're on the mark, Mark

On the bright side if they accidently win this week the way they did against N.E. and the Jets, they should be back on track for another non-losing season. Shouldn't that be a reason to celebrate?
Gerry Dulac
10:22
I know it seems bad right now, but they still have a 1 1/2 game lead in the division.

Do all the acquisition on defense (Ramsey,Slay,Clark,Thornhill, etc) speak to the Steelers poor drafting and development at the defensive back position?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
You could say that
Josh
10:23
Is it your understanding that Teryl Austin calls the defensive plays on gamedays? I know its Mike Tomlin's defense, but there seems to be confusion, at least among fans, as to who calls the plays.  I know Keith Butler said in the past that Mike Tomlin was the play caller, but I keep seeing reports now that Austin does call the plays during the games, contrary to what Butler said was happening when he was DC a few years ago.
Gerry Dulac
10:25
Be careful about what you read with those other "reports." See my earlier answer so I don't have to explain again. Simply put, it is Mike Tomlin's defense, through and through, and Austin is only calling plays -- not all of them, either -- that have been set forth by Tomlin.

Hello Gerry . Thank you for the chat as always . I know you have always supported Omar khan but lot Steelers decisions are a head scratcher to say the least . Declaring a season as “ all in “ and then trading Pickens in the off season for a 3rd round pick did not make any sense . Why not at least see what he can do with Rodgers ? Trading/ signing up  for older secondary who cannot keep up with anyone is not a recipe for success . Not picking up Najee Harris 5th year option does not make sense . Trading Pickett for a late round swap still bothers me . I know I know he asked for it and he has been traded 3 times but who knows what he could have done with someone other than Canada  a La baker mayfield. Have a nice day .
Gerry Dulac
10:28
OK, in order -- 1) Pickens was traded because of his disruptive character, not his talent; 2) They thought Warren was a better fit than Harris for Smith's offense and that has proven to be true; 3) Pickett has been with four different teams already, which should tell you they can't all be wrong.

Hi Gerry, how would you characterize the current relationship between Brooke Pryor and Coach Tomlin?  Has it improved compared to last season?  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
10:28
That is not for me to answer. I don't like to talk about other media people, good or bad. Everybody is trying to do a job.

Hello Gerry. Are you under the impression that Art Rooney II is angry with Coach Tomlin over the lack of playoff wins in the last decade. Or getting so little out of the highest paid defense in the NFL?
Gerry Dulac
10:29
Angry is not the word. Frustrated or impatient would be a better choice
Rich

I know MT is running the show but Mr Rooney can’t be that inept to not see the defense needs a change in coaching.  Their schemes are outdated and no longer are effective in this era of the NFL and offense.  If MT is adamant to retain his DC then time to step up and do what is best for the organization and not  an ego.  This team has lost it’s identity.  Sorry to vent.
Gerry Dulac
10:30
You are allowed to vent. There are a number of former players who would agree w you about the identity.

Dear Gerry . Thank you as always for the chat . What do you think of the QB class in the next year draft ?  Have you see ASU QB Sam Leavit and do you think that could be an option for Steelers ? He has good accuracy , mobility and tough as nails . Never lost a home game at ASU . I am biased living in Phoenix but he was a Heisman candidate in the beginning before he had couple of bad games in the beginning of this year . But he has a good resume and was in playoff semifinals last year . Would like to hear your thoughts? Thank you .
Gerry Dulac
10:32
Hey KN, sorry to say I haven't seen much of him at all this year, only what I hear. So it's difficult for me to say right now what his draft stock will be. But I don't think anyone has forgotten about him.

Are the steelers 3rd round picks cursed?  Roman Wilson couldn't see the field last year, now Kaleb Johnson hasn't had a touch since the Browns game.  Has he fallen out of favor or is it just simply situational game strategy as to why he hasn't gotten any playing time?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
Roman Wilson was hurt last year. And Johnson hasn't fallen out of favor. Instead, I think you  should pay attention to how good the running game has been with Warren and Gainwell.

Is the poor defensive performance more on the coaches or the players? Given the persistence of these problems since last year, even with new players, it feels like it is more coaching — bad scheme, bad play calling, bad preparation.  What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:33
I think you are on to something (along with everyone else).

Do you agree that Mike Tomlin's three biggest weaknesses as a head coach are:

1 - clock and time out management at the end of games
2 - hiring high qualify assistant coaches
3 - insisting on moonlighting as defensive coordinator
Gerry Dulac
10:36
My man, I think you asked me last week what I thought Tomlin's three biggest flaws were. Now you're providing me your answers and asking me to agree. But, after much thought, I'm going to answer last week's question. 1) Doesn't cut his own grass; 2) Doesn't know who cuts his grass; 3) Was unaware his team was wearing throwback uniforms.

How do you think the Steelers organization views QB Will Howard? Do they feel he's just a permanent back up whom they hope never plays, or do they have any plan to give him a shot at being QB1 at some point?
Gerry Dulac
10:38
I think they are willing to see what he has, given that they never got the chance this year at all. I don't think they think he's the savior, nor do I think they think he's a permanent backup.

Wouldn't you think Omar Kahn was aware of the "age wall" for cornerbacks, the history of a noticeable drop‐off starting at age 30?

I'm sure he is

How can you be the highest paid defense in the NFL by a mile and not even be a mediocre defense?  They are a bad defense — bottom of the league.  Who is accountable for that performance (which includes the complete meltdown at the end of last year).
Gerry Dulac
10:43
Uh, I think that has been established
Jeremy
10:43
Gerry, I was clinging to the view that the Bengals loss was excusable due to traveling for a Thursday game and Flacco providing a shot in the arm for an underperforming offense. Then I hoped for a strong bounce back performance and win against GB due to extra rest, playing in prime time, and against a good opponent. That is something we’ve seen many times over the decades where the Steelers rise up, but it didn’t happen and there was no defensive improvement. I take the GB loss as the strongest indication yet of what the 2025 Steelers are, and it is no better than we have seen for at least 8 seasons. Tell me I’m wrong please!
Gerry Dulac
10:44
I'm sorry, Jeremy, I cannot. Their repeated failure to beat the best teams in the league is always a strong indication of what they are.

Good morning Gerry! When will Tomlin admit to himself and the team that his defensive scheme is not working and they need to change the way they play defense?  Does it means playing more zone or benching players or is it just a personnel issue that can’t be fixed and they have to out score their opponents?
Gerry Dulac
10:45
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for that to happen.
