Very much there is an intensity, determination, focus and confidence about them. Absolutely

Can this possibly be the year that the "Football Gods" finally stop giving the Patriots the "luck" they always seem to have?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
It's possible

Do you feel that the Steelers must stop Fournette and Jaguars running game to win on Sunday?
Gerry Dulac
11:15
That will be their top priority and I expect them to do so. Then it will all depend which Bortles shows up. Again, the Jags can't possibly use the same game plan they employed last week if they want to win. They have to take chances down the field

Hi Gerry - I think if the Steelers can stop the run and avoid turnovers, they will win. Do you think they will be able to do both?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I'm not a swami. You can't predict turnovers. You can talk about avoiding them all you want, that doesn't mean you will prevent them. But, if you do turn it over, you have to be able to take it back. Last meeting, the Jags won the turnover battle 5-to-1. That's a plus-4, and two of those were pick-6 TDs. Tough to overcome

If Matevevich were 100% healthy would he be starting over Spence? Which of the two is the better player at this point?
Gerry Dulac
11:18
I think they are using Spence more because he is more like Shazier in that he can run and cover sideline to sideline more than Matakevich

Calias Campbell is a beast on the strong side, especially when playing on grass. Do you see the Steelers adding help?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
He is a beast. They will be aware of him but they will ask Marcus Gilbert and David DeCastro to control him with little help

I believe Ed pointed out that the Steelers are fifth in the NFL in pass defense.  Are all the other teams just that bad or does the few interceptions we've "lucked" into carry extra weight? Good thing tackling isn't of consideration, or intelligence for that matter. To me they seem scarey-bad. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:20
That just goes to show you're not aware of how other secondary units around the league perform.

It's been ten yrs since Jacksonville beat the Steelers twice in a season. Their formula (with David Garrard as QB) was to sack Ben (six times) and force 3 INT. Not much changed since then - mediocre qb, strong running game and tough defense....
Gerry Dulac
11:22
Right. The similarities are uncanny. But that Jags offense was better. This Jags defense is better

11:22
Hello Gerry, is this Jags D the most complicated defense Ben has faced in his career? What about those Ravens D with Lewis and Reed? What about the 2015 Broncos?
Gerry Dulac
11:22
They are one of them

A key personal matchup to watch with Steelers OL vs Jaguars DL? Another matchup you think it would be very important?
Gerry Dulac
11:23
Gilbert vs. Campbell. Brown (if he plays) vs Ramsey/Bouye.

Hi Gerry!  The Steelers enter Sunday as heavy favorites, as they should.  They've fallen for "trap" games before (see Bears game earlier this season) and the head coach made comments looking past this game weeks ago (Patriots preview and anticipated rematch comments made to Dungy).  But even with all that, I don't get the sense that this team is anything but locked in on the Jags.  Am I wearing rose-colored glasses?
Gerry Dulac
11:24
There is no trap game in the postseason, trust me. They are focused on the playoffs, regardless of the opponent.

Mike Mitchell's comments about playing the Patriots anywhere...too much talk for a team needing a win before that would even happen?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Agreed

Given its the playoffs, I wouldn’t think pro FB players need anything additional to hype them up to play. In your opinion, does bulletin board material really exist? For instance, Mike Mitchell channeling his inner Anthony Smith and guaranteeing a win in NE.... assuming a win over Jax, does that REALLY motivate NE more to play ‘harder or better’?
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I think coaches use it to try to motivate their team, get them focused, and I'm sure it has some effect. Of course, the only time you hear about it working is when a team wins, now when it loses. How many coaches you think use this "bulletin board material" and the team still loses? More times than the team is "inspired" to win, I'm sure.

Gerry, isn't it almost a blessing in disguise that we didn't beat the Patriots for home field advantage?Beating the Patriots twice in one season is unheard of and it's not like the Steelers are undefeated in home championship games.
Gerry Dulac
11:28
I don't know if it's a blessing, but beating the Patriots at home in the AFC title game after beating them during the regular season carries about the same odds as beating them up there
CoachOCB
11:28
I know an INT is an INT...but Roethlisberger had 2-3 tips intercepted against Jags last time. What's the feeling about the pass game so far this week?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
I think you were right with your preface -- an interception is an interception.

11:32
Outside of Bell, which FA/RFA do you see as priorities for the Steelers to resign? I'm betting on Boswell, Nix, Hubbard and Chickillo.
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Boswell is the only one who is a priority

I think everyone is over looking how good the jags defense is, how much the steelers have been struggling against the run and how again and again they make awful QBs look like Tom Brady. Also, we werent missing anyone from week 5 so we really do not have an excuse for that performance. Why will this time be different? Am I being too much of a Debbie Downer or to I have a good reason to be worried?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
I don't think anybody is dismissing how good Jax defense is, certainly nobody with the Steelers. Did you happen to see where the Steelers are 10-1 since losing to Jax, tied for the best record in the NFL and are 22-4 in their last 26 games? And how many teams in the league do you think want to play the Steelers? I can tell you -- nobody.
Lloyd's Three Count
11:35
Something tells me this trouble out of NE is, as some politicians may say, fake news. Belichick is notorious for implementing all sorts of shenanigans to get an advantage and this smacks of too much smoke and no fire.... out of my tree?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
Doesn't matter if it's fake or not. It won't affect them. If true, it has been going on at least all season, correct? And the Pats are 13-3 with the No. 1 seed. I'd say they're not too affected.
OK, kids, that's all the time we have today. Thanx for the chat
