Ok kids, the Steelers pushed back their schedule today so I had to push back ours. We will start our chat in approx 20 minutes, so get ready...
10:56
Ok, here we go...lets get started

What did you make of Ben’s comment about essentially playing sandlot football the second half?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
Well, I thought it was pretty cool to see, doing what he had to do to make plays work on those scoring drives. Really good stuff. I've never seen him redirect receivers before the snap like he did in baltimore.

Have you been privy to any updates on Ryan Shazier? Thanks for your good work.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
There are none. What kind are you looking for. He already said he's not playing football anymore.

Hi Gerry...burning question -- will Coach Randy ever learn to wear his mask properly? He could cover the Kool Aid man with that thing, yet still keeps it below his nose. I'm only sort of joking...knock on wood that the Steelers continue to have zero positive tests.
Gerry Dulac
10:58
Knock knock is right

Thanks for the chats, Gerry. Do you think Spillane has earned a starting spot (or majority-down role) or is Williamson expected to take over?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Mike Tomlin made it clear -- Williamson was brought in for depth to be the third ILB in case something happens to 98 or Spillane. There is no reason to replace Spillane after how he has performed the past two games.

Hi Gerry, would you agree that Isaiah Buggs is not a viable solution at nose tackle if Alualu is injured? Besides the one play, Tomlin seemed unhappy with his performance.
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Well, he's not Alualu, but nobody expects him to be. He played 34 snaps versus the Ravens, most he's ever played. That doesn't qualify him to be on the same level as Alualu

Avery Williamson is a very good player that was on a very bad team. I love Vince and Spilly but do you think there's any chance that within the next 2-3 weeks he surpasses one of them?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Of course there's a chance, but I doubt it. And he won't replace Williams, except maybe in some sub package defenses
Utah Jim
11:00
Who is the best wide receiver the Ravens ever drafted?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
You should ask a Ravens guy. I don't study their history

Has Ben really lost something off his deep ball or is it just the style of offense being run?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
No, it's not strength of arm, its accuracy. He is overthrowing guys, but he's missing by an awful lot. Now, maybe it's the fault of some of the receivers, like James Washington, who appear to be in the wrong place or get lost in their space on the field. But his failure to miss badly on so many deep throws is uncharacteristic of him.

Thanks for the chats Gerry.  I get everyone is concerned with the game letdown and any given Sunday.  Whereas I too am concerned this team seems different from past teams in that they all seem to step up when needed.  We are finding ways to win versus underplaying against average teams and even when we start slow (last week) we deliver.  Just feels different than past years/teams.  What say you?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I agree, and the reason is they are a good team. Those 8-8 and 9-7 teams that lost to the Jets and Browns and Jaguars were 8-8 and 9-7 for a reason -- they were decent teams but not really good teams. This team has done what good teams do -- they beat the teams they are supposed to beat. That's what is different.

hey Gerry I noticed during the first half of the game Sunday there was all kinds of negative criticism of Bens play. While it is true he was having a bad half when is Steeler nation going to realize that Ben is usually the Steelers best chance of winning and against the Ravens he was pretty much their only chance. We are lucky to have him. Thanks for the chats. Always a highlight of my week
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Those are the same people who were saying how terrific he was when he brought them back in the second half, completing 13 of 14 passes on the final two TD drives. Good news for me: I don't hear those people, and for good reason.

Hello Ray! Thanks for your chats! Seems like at long times during games the offensive play-calling stalls the drives and causes no points from the offensive side. Are we going to see more Canada involvement during second half of the season?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Not as long as Ben is at QB. Haven't you noticed that when's calling the plays there is none of that pre-snap shifting, motion or misdirection stuff?? Plus, you can't score every time you have the ball. And should I point up the Steelers are the only team to score 26+ points in every game this season??? What's more, the next time you want to ask Ray a question, ask Ray, not me.

I know players ware face coverings in the winter in games when its really cold, why not now ?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
Because it's not really cold?

With the pickup of Avery Williamson the Steelers seem to be in a win now mode. if we have a deep playoff run and maybe a Super Bowl appearance. How do we keep the team together with the up commin lower Salary Cap?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
You can't and won't. Nearly every team will have to make a couple tough decisions on players next year, and the Steelers are no exception.

Good morning Gerry. Any concern coming out of Pittsburgh regarding the Covid scare in Baltimore?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
None so far. And I wouldn't categorize it as a scare unless a whole bunch of Ravens players start testing positive, not just one
Nitro

Gerry-  Will Dallas D provide more opportunities to use sweep and mis-direction plays?  We seem to have gotten away from using that in our arsenal the last few games.  I'd like to see Ray Ray get more sweep handoffs or bubble screen type of plays.
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Hey Nitro, do I need to point up they are 7-0 and the only unbeaten team in the league? Or that they are the only team to score at least 26 points in every game? Or that they are 3rd in the AFC in red-zone TD, converting 66.7 percent of the time (18 of 27)?

11:12
Has Ben lost velocity on his throws? Thanks!
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Do I put the Jugs gun on him every throw? The answer is 'no' to both your question and mine

Hi Gerry - I struggle to understand why J Samuels got more snaps than Snell and McFarland combined on Sunday.  To be honest, I think Smallwood is better RB option if Steelers want to throw to RB.  What have you seen from Smallwood in practice?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
He came in as a receiver, not as a RB. Snell didn't get a snap, which surprised me a little, and McFarland got one. Smallwood is not an option. I think it all shows the reliance the Steelers have on James Conner.

One serious question - How tight is team facilities regarding COVID protection & protocols? And should I have my elves start engraving a Lombardi Trophy to put under the Steelers tree? Go-Go-Go Steelers!
Gerry Dulac
11:16
It's tight.

Greetings Gerry - Since Tomlin didn't give an answer to the question posed about Ray Ray getting more snaps at the expense of JW, I'll ask you.  Purely due to speed/elusiveness against a good secondary or do you think JW is not as good at improvisation as other receivers?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
It had to do with their scheme for that game, same reason Snell didn't play and McFarland got just one snap.
