On short yardage plays, why do we not use #44 as the lead blocker?
Gerry Dulac
11:21
It is apparent they don't believe in that. When 44 is in the game, he usually lines as a wing, or extra tight end.

What’s your take on this, why does the defense always seem to get really bad in the 2nd half. They’ve allowed at most 6 points in the first half, and 2nd half? Like 20+
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Teams making adjustments maybe. I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but based on the way they have been frittering away leads I would say you're right.

Did not hear Bush or Schoebert's name called out too often on Monday. Were they being dominated or were they doing their jobs with no splash plays? I saw Bush 1 time get completely faked out on a run play to the right as he bit for a fake to the left and was totally out of position to make a play.
Gerry Dulac
11:26
No big splash plays for sure, but Schobert was third in tackles with 5 and Bush had three. He also had a pass breakup, if that matters.

I know we’re not coaches, but do you think Bush could benefit from lining up a little farther from the ball because of his smaller size? He seems not to be seeing the plays well and getting caught up in big bodies when he does.
Gerry Dulac
11:27
Getting caught in a wash of bodies is not always his fault. Could be because the defensive linemen aren't taking up blockers.

What is the issue with this offense, in your opinion? I still think Ben doesn’t get enough time. OL is getting better, but it’s not good, still.
Gerry Dulac
11:27
I think both those points are valid. But I think you're forgetting another -- not exactly like the WRs are having Pro Bowl seasons.

I've been a Steeler fan for almost 70 years now! Ihave to admit that its great they are where they are right now but realistically do you think with all their issues they could make the playoffs this year? The organization is very strong but i fear we are in for some lean years.
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Lean is not a word they use or subscribe to. And we haven't seen a lean year in 15 years under Tomlin, unless you consider 8-8 to be lean.

I felt the Steelers offense got to conservative in the second half of the Seahawks game and the second half of the Bears game. Do you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Probably. Trying to protect a lead. But part of it was they were trying to do what everybody has been screaming for them to do -- run the ball. So when they do, now they're too conservative.

It's sometimes hard to hear all of the criticism that comes Ben's way regarding his level of play and everyone's desire to push him out the door. I know he's older and that his level of play has decreased, but it would be interesting to see him play behind the line during the 2016-2018 seasons. I still think he has enough tools to play next year and beyond. The lack of protection is the biggest issue by far, but that would be the case with anyone. Do you think he's done after this year and, if so, is it by his choice or the organization's?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
I am not expecting him back next season, and it might be both his choice and the organization. But he still has the ability to win games, however it takes. I think he showed that on the final drive Monday night. And on the back-to-back TD drives in Cleveland. And on the four consecutive scoring drives in the second half in Buffalo.

Gerry, I enjoy your chats. Your thoughts on McCloud as a returner, he seems average to me and he doesn't help the offense much, is really the Steelers best option?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
Average to above average, nothing more. And, no, he isn't. As stated earlier, DJ is.

Whats the status of Claypool?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
If you mean his toe, we'll see. If you mean his inability to come up with more combat catches, we'll see on that, too.

Gerry if you had to bet…. Who is our QB week 1 next season? Someone currently on the roster? Someone we sign or trade for? Or someone we draft in the spring?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Someone on the roster
John
11:34
Do you have any idea what the Steelers think of the 2022 quarterbacks coming out in the draft?  Will they have scouts at Pitt's game with Pickett and Sam Howell playing against each other?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
Probably because the game is at Heinz Field

Gerry, seems to me that Minkah F has been working on the missed tackles. Maybe it's just me, but there seems to be improvement in that area....thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
I can tell you he is not actually WORKING on tackling in practice because they don't do that in the NFL. Best he and the others can do is focus better on tackling.

We keep hearing that the Steelers are thin at outside linebacker/EDGE rushers. Yet four former Steelers, on their roster this year, (Jones, Ingram, Roche, Marsh) are all on other 53-man rosters and making contributions. Seems to be some issues on talent evaluation this year. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:36
That should tell you how desperate other teams are to find OLB/edge rushers

Steelers offense or defense, which needs more attention from the coaches as we move forward. Have to pick one or the other because saying both is the easiest way to answer!!
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Actually, I don't have to pick either. How's that for easy.
RJT
11:37
Who has played better, wormley or buggs?
Gerry Dulac
11:37
I think Wormley has been solid. Buggs has improved but still prone to wrong gaps.

According to teamrankings.com Steelers defense is third in 1st half points per game but 25th in second half points per game.  And just watching the games it's seems like they are always getting shredded in the second half.  Why do you think this is?
Gerry Dulac
11:39
Got asked that earlier and thanks for the points stat. Hard to say exactly. Part of it is teams making adjustments at halftime and the Steelers either failing to adjust to what they were doing (Bears) or guessing wrong about what they thought they would do (Seattle).

Just your thoughts but I got the feeling that Tomlin was not in the mood to have his weekly press conference. Not sure if he was tired, disgusted or both.
Gerry Dulac
11:40
No, in his defense, he's meeting with us just 12 hours after he last saw the media and really has nothing new to add or say.

Hello Gerry , as a Steelers fan I’m seriously concerned with the DL depth. Tyson done for year , Davis on IR and nobody knows if and when Tuitt will play. Cam goes down with injury and that’s it. What can Steelers do at this point in the season to help Cam in DL
Gerry Dulac
11:40
You should be. For all the reasons you outlined.

Gerry, where do you see the Steelers investing their large cap space money this off-season outside of extending their own players?  I would think that Oline and maybe a DT?
Gerry Dulac
11:42
Maybe D-Line, maybe both. They need to draft a defensive lineman high, maybe even No. 1, because Cam is getting older and there's no guarantee Tuitt will be back because of how much he is paid and how often he is injured. Not to mention Alualu is 34.
