No it isn't Dave. Not when the defense is allowing the most points per game since 1988

You do a great job of circling the coaching philosophies that drive fans crazy like not throwing in the middle of the field, an overpaid, underachieving defense that also looks really slow, et. al. And these have been the same quandaries year-over-year. When does "a fresh start" become a viable option for ownership and with many minority partners, have you sensed any drumbeat from them to make a change?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
There are no drumbeats or puffs of smoke right now, but check my earlier answer to Mediocre Mike about a "fresh start."

Hi Gerry! I believe Chuck would have summed up the current Steelers organization with, "Our problems are great, and they are many."
Happy Thanksgiving!

Hahaha. Bingo

Hey Gerry, Ive noticed over the last few years, any time the Steelers defense plays a team with an Oline described as one of 'patchwork', 'inexperienced', 'struggling', 'on its 3rd string left tackle', or 'plugging in warm bodies off the street', they shut down the Steelers Pro Bowl pass rush and even gash the front 7 with the run game. Why can we never seem to take advantage of teams like that? And why does our Oline of mostly high round draft choice pedigree take so long to function as even an average Oline, while these other teams seem to plug in average joes and successfully figure it out on the fly against the Steelers

I think when you hear that stuff, it's usually an overzealous, whimsical and hopeful analysis of what they would like the Steelers to do, not what will they do.

Gerry, Im 42, always been a Steelers fan.. and as far back as I can remember,  I've never felt the overwhelming doubt as I feel this year about our Steelers, do the coaches even try and adjust at halftime? I dont even want to watch the rest of the season, any upside you can give the fans ?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
I wish I could, but the next two games will tell if you need to watch the rest of the season, hard as that may be to do

Hi Gerry. Happy Thanksgiving. You’ve explained to us firing Tomlin won’t happen because of his contract. If the season ends without another playoff appearance let alone a win, do you think ARII will insist on coaching changes and force Mike to give his coordinators more autonomy?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
It's not because of contract. That matters with assistant coaches/coordinators. It's not about contract with Tomlin. Not when he keeps getting extensions. It's going to be like Bill Cowher -- he will leave basically when he wants.

Outside of the Super Bowl '70s teams, which squad had the best secondary? I would vote for 1989 with Rod Woodson, Dwayne Woodruff, Carnell Lake and Thomas Everett with D.J. (then David) Johnson working in.
Gerry Dulac
10:16
That's a good place to start.

Good Morning Gerry.  I have been to a few training camp practices over the past year and have noticed the Steelers offense completing passes over the middle of the field with success.  Yet we refuse to use that part of the field during actual games. Why the allergic reaction to using the middle of the field in the passing game?   Especially this past week, the injuries to the Bears linebackers screamed test them in the passing game, yet we didn't throw any over the middle?   Again another game where we intentionally let 88 just be a casual participant in the offense.
Gerry Dulac
10:17
I think if you look, Aaron Rodgers does test the middle of the field, especially with TDs. And the lack of use of 88 baffles me continually

Anything to take away from PQ comments amongst others in terms of schemes and preparedness of defense?  Seems to me to be a repeating theme these past few seasons.  As HCMT says, that is why mt is well compensated.  What am I missing Gerry?  Happy turkey day
Gerry Dulac

You're not missing anything my friend.

Good morning Gerry.  Pickens as many receiving yards than all Steelers WR combined.  Embarrassing.

Mind boggling that devin hester got in before ward. Ward is the best run blocking WR ever. He was also durable and a hell of a receiver.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
And what if Vinatieri gets in before him??
Lou
10:19
Happy Thanksgiving Gerry!  Is Roman Wilson not getting enough chances? Does he look like he’s open often and just not getting a ball?
Gerry Dulac
10:19
He is and he's open. And, as you have seen, he goes after the ball.

I think Omar Kahn has done a good job drafting rebuilding the lines. But do you trust Tomlin's and his offensive staff input when they draft a quarterback with his track record?
Gerry Dulac
10:20
Well the one and biggest misfire was Pickett.
Dan Reynolds

Playing Jonnu Smith and not Freirmuth is foolish. Smith will never score a TD for us. He just doesn’t seem to know what to do once he catches a pass. On the other hand, Freirmuth has proven to be a great target especially in the end zone. Come on, MT and Smith - use your heads for once.

You didn’t finish answering Soggy’s question.

Thanks for the insightful answer! Hope you get trichinosis from eating undercooked Turkey!!  Other than that, hope you have a great Thanksgiving

What was you insightful question that deserved what you derisively call an insightful answer???

The Steeler defense gets out coached, out schemed by good offensive minded coaches.    The Bears game is a perfect example of that in the second half.   How is it possible on a goal line situation on a 3rd and 2 only having 2 down lineman and they just walk right in untouched for a score.   Do you think at some point veteran players will start coming out anonymously calling out the coaches more directly?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
I think some already have, but you have to pay attention to how they tip-toe around the topic
Happy Gilmore
10:23
Gerry, Mike Tomlin's arrogance seems to have grown despite going on 9 years without post season success. Does it feel like a defense mechanism to you?
Gerry Dulac
10:23
It might be, but I don't try to psycho-analyze
Josh - Boston
10:23
Highsmith is gone this offseason right? Or do you see them keeping him around?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
They should, but, after paying Watt, going to be difficult.
Josh - Boston
10:24
Gerry I get that they won’t fire Tomlin but if they miss the playoffs or lose 1st round again, will ownership step in to force Mike to give up some of the reigns around coordinator control of the scheme and philosophy? Something gotta give right?
Gerry Dulac
10:24
Josh, something will definitely have to give. How long can they tolerate watching the same ol' thing??
Michael
10:25
Is Tomlin unwilling or unable to adjust his overall philosophy to building a team / staff and allow them to play to their strengths?
