Ok, kids, we're going to start our chat in just a few minutes, so get ready.....

Ok, let's get started

My takes on the coaches fire Haley, Butler, Lake and porter release Mitchell. Love to see Kevin Greene as DC or LB coach. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Kevin Greene is Joey Porter. Mitchell is a salary-cap liability whose production doesn't match his paycheck

Hi Gerry - any reason why the Steelers D didn't put 8 in the box to stop the run on Sunday?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Didn't matter. They were blown off the ball, every one of the them, all front 7. Jax was the more physical team. Simple

Gerry, where do you think Tomlin is on the spectrum of high conviction and stubborn with respect to questionable play calling?  I ask because it’s easy to criticize the 4th’s that didn’t work but two of them were highlight reel material.  Also, he seemed fairly defensive and flippant in his recent comments around the impact of his players commenting on social media as opposed to taking a view that there may be ways to reign in some of the transparency.  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac
11:03
He is on the leading edge of conviction and...yes, stubborn. He believes in what he does and never apologized, never backs down. There is no waver in him, give him that, even if it appears the decision he made did not prove to be the right one. He does not apologize for his actions, rarely, if ever.

Hi Gerry - biggest needs at ILB and S? Does Mitchell get released?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Absolutely. I think you will see them sign an ILB in free agency and draft one on the first round, perhaps another before rd 3 is over
JerseySteel
11:03
I think Tomlin is a top coach and should stay. With that, there are some things like clock management, onside kicks, QB sneaks and other game management issues where he could improve. Does Art Rooney convince him to add a coach to help with game decisions like a bench coach in baseball?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Agreed, he makes decisions I don't agree with and some he kinda botches, like the onside kick vs Jax. I talked to 3 former NFL head coaches this week and they all agreed that was ABSOLUTELY the wrong decision, his worst of the game. The percentage of recovering an onside kick over the past three seasons is 15 percent. In today world of analytics, especially, those are odds you just don't play. The Jaguars had 10 possessions in the game, not counting kneel downs at the end of the half and the game. The Steelers forced four punts. That's 20 percent of the time they stopped Jax. Those are better odds than an onside kick.

Hi Gerry - I noticed a goal line play from the one on Sunday and Hargrave wasn't on the field. Any idea why?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
Yes his lower back was bothering him, which is why he played fewer snap than LT Walton. Just not able to be effective.
JerseySteel
11:08
Hi Gerry - do the Steelers bring Chris Hubbard back or he will get offers too high to match for a backup OL?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
His offer won't be that high, but he will get a nice offer that will allow him to be a starter, and for that reason he would be crazy to not take it. He will be a backup for the Steelers.

11:10
Hi Gerry - do the Steelers draft another RB and WR in case 2018 is the last year for Bell and Bryant in a Steelers uniform?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
I would draft a RB, if possible, before the fifth round.

Hey Gerry.  Thx for all the great chats.  Do you think that Art Rooney is looking more at the regular season success rather than the game mismanagement and the very bad playoff losses as justification to keep Tomlin.  Seems like warped thinking to me.  Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
It's not warped thinking. It's the big picture. It's the right way to think. Otherwise, we can pull a fan from section 532 to run the team

What is the Steelers cap situation heading into next year? Can they create enough room to sign an upgrade at ILB or S (can’t depend on both in the draft)?
Gerry Dulac
11:13
Have you not learned by now, by the way the Steelers have kept all their core players, how they have signed EVERYONE of their offensive linemen (a rarity), how they can bring in Joe Haden to solidify the second, that they know what they're doing with the cap???? And they still win. Let me repeat -- win!! It doesn't matter.

The odds of steelers forcing a 3 and out after a kickoff vs an nfl average of recovering an onside kick just 12% of the time has to be far greater to execute. Coaching feel ( but I’ll call it emotion) certainly comes into play with MT. Hope he learns from his mistakes...
Gerry Dulac
11:24
I don't know that odds are kept on that but, if you saw my earlier answer, the Steelers stopped the Jaguars four times and forced punts. One of those possessions lasted 4 plays with one first down, two others last six plays with one first down each and another went eight plays with 2 first downs. That's 5 first downs on four drives. The total time consumed of those four drives was 11 min, 10 seconds, or an average of 2 min, 50 seconds. The shortest drive last 1:47, the longest 4:13. The Steelers had two timeouts and the 2-minute warning

Hi Gerry, Do you think Ben already coming out and saying he wants to play three mores seasons has to do with Haley probably not coming back?
Gerry Dulac
11:25
Or maybe it's the other way around....maybe there's an "if" in there

Hey Gerry, It's Wednesday and I'm still in shock..What good news if any can you say to help?
Gerry Dulac

Penguins have won 4 in a row. The combine is next month.

I know that change is hard and anxiety provoking, and should not be reactive but this derailed team just cannot get on track. Seemingly, this team needs more than a strong draft and smarter coaches. Many of their formulations seem antiquated and out of step with the current NFL. Butler and Haley seem like good guys but their vision is myopic and rigid contributing to Tomlin’s immature and at times delusional judgements that annually fails to position highly talented players to succeed. Despite BB’s assertions, isn’t it time to gut the OC, DC, special teams

I like your verbiage and reasoning. The end result of your finely crafted essay doesn't match

Gerry, There has been a lot of talk about the offensive (pun intended) play calling to the point where the sports talk radio programs have spent literally days on the subject. I find this to a ludicrous distraction as the real blame lies with the defensive scheme and defensive execution. Where is the accountability on that side given that it is 80% of the reason for this embarrassing loss?
Gerry Dulac
11:29
Pay the man. The Steelers scored 42 points and all anyone wants to talk about is the offense. The defense got out-physicaled and pushed around by the Jaguars. That was the problem. If the 2 fourth-down stops were horrible calls and horrible execution, then the two TDs on fourth down were tremendous calls and tremendous execution. It can't be both ways. Of course, it will be to the people who add 2 and 2 and get 5

Mike Mitchell is no help in the backfield and Bud Dupree STILL cant get to the QB. Do you think they will be back next season?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
I think Dupree will be back but he has to be better than he has been.

How would you rank the Steelers offseason position needs?
Gerry Dulac

ILB, S, ILB, RB

Coach basically said player’s social media comments are out of his control. Why doesn’t someone ask him why the Patriots never partake in it? Obviously Coach Belichick maintains control over it. Why can’t he?
Gerry Dulac
11:35
Bingo. I'm with you Joan. He called it unconventional. I call it unnecessary, uncalled for and unprofessional. By doing that, he established a template that allowed his players to do the same. He and Mike Mitchell and Le'Veon Bell disrespected an opponent, which is like egregrious sin No. 1 in professional sports.

Gerry, Yes 13-4 is a good season but not good enough for a team with so much talent. You don't go into the season saying I just want a good record and to make the playoffs... Everyone's goal is to win the Superbowl..Tomlin has lost this team just like cowher did and they brought in a young goal driven coach to put fire into a talented team back then...I think it's time to do the same..what say you
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Tomlin and Cowher have not and never have lost any team. That is a figment of the public's imagination. What it is a by-product and further damnation of the behavior of today's professional athlete. Not all of them, but plenty of them. I don't believe in that behavior, and it should not be tolerated, but don't think for a minute they have lost control. Maybe you and the others need to go see how things work with other teams and organzations and report back to me.
