OK kids, we're going to start our chat in about 5-10 minutes so get ready...

OK, let's get going..Fire away!!

Have Benny Snell and McFarland’s performances exposed Najee Harris as the problem? Maybe Najee is simply not quick enough for the NFL’s quickly opening and closing running lanes?
Gerry Dulac
9:50
Well, Benny Snell is not exactly a lightning bolt to the hole. In fact, he's slower to the hole than Najee. But he does a good job finding the hole. I have no problem with the way Harris has been running the past three games, and the reason why is because he has been doing exactly that -- hitting the hole

What is the QB2 salary that you would expect a higher end back up like Mason Rudolph to get on the market next year?
Gerry Dulac
9:52
His current deal is two years, $6+ million, which expires after the season. I would expect him to get more than that, quite frankly

How much of the kick return issue is related to the substitute kicker not being able to get depth and height on his kickoffs? They are either short and high, or long into the end zone but line drives.
Gerry Dulac
9:55
That's very possible, but short and high is designed to get cover guys on the ball quicker. And you don't see a lot of teams running out kicks deep into the end zone. I'm not going to blame the kicker. I would lay the blame where it belongs

Better chance of returning Edmonds or Bush?
Gerry Dulac
9:55
I think Edmunds

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats:  After seeing more failed jet sweeps in the Colts game now with Steven Sims doing the cha-cha, I was thinking they must have run 100 jet sweeps since Canada has been the OC.  How many have resulted in First Downs?  Pretty uncommon, and it looks as worthless as the old “Bubble Screen.”  The league has him figured out, and he is just stubborn banging his head against the wall.
Gerry Dulac
9:57
I hear ya. Where I think the jet sweep has been effective is when it's used with Diontae Johnson or George Pickens -- guys who when they come in motion the defense does not suspect they are going to get the handoff as much as it does when they see Sims going in motion. That's the red alert.

In your opinion who has been the best O-lineman this season?
Gerry Dulac
9:57
Cole and Daniels have been very good. So has Okorafor. The other side not so much

Better philosophy...Rams sell out for one year to win Super Bowl or Steelers build a team and being contenders for 15 years?
Gerry Dulac
9:59
You tell me....which would you rather watch?? And anyone who says the first option is kidding themselves. You've seen the Steelers win six Super Bowls -- SIX!!! -- and that's still not good enough when they have what appears to be their first losing season in 20 years.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for your great insights:  It seemed obvious that the Colts kickoff returners ran back kicks from 5-10 yards deep the end zone against the Steelers.  Most teams take a knee when over 1-2 yards back in the end zone.  So is it now common knowledge the Steeler return Defense is suspect?

People are obsessed with draft positioning. I think finishing the season strong is more important. Winning games down the stretch would mean Kenny is improving and building a winning culture. If tanking was an exact science why are there teams that are bad for decades?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
I can promise you the Steelers have zero interest in draft positioning. They are interested in only one thing and one thing only -- winning the next game. Tanking is a fan's word or national media creation.

how high of a pick should we use on another receiver this year? pickens looks like hes gonna become the number 1 i think Diontae is a #2 if we keep him around but we dont seem to have a clear #3
Gerry Dulac
10:01
They are hoping that will be Calvin Austin. So I wouldn't expect a receiver until the fifth round at the earliest
Jim
10:01
Even though everyone is saying the line is coming together, I still see them blown off the ball and into the backfield. I think we need at least two new starters on the oline, am I wrong?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
Nope. One for sure, and just a starter. They need a stud.
Jim

Has TJ said he hasn't fully recovered? He doesn't seem like the same unblockable player he was before the injury.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
He hasn't, but let's face it -- there's really no way he can be. He's coming off an injury that is very debilitating and limiting. I think he will get better each game going forward when he can trust his health a little better

does it seem like the game is starting to slow down a bit for Kenny? hes been playing a lot better the last couple weeks im sure some it is the level of competition but i thinks also shown better decision making and processing.
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I'm sure it is. Each game slows down a little more from him, but it will still take till year 2 before he really starts to think that. A lot to process right now. I think his quick decision-making is very good. The progressions are a work in progress. That's when you see him take off and run

How "guaranteed" is a guaranteed contract?  What if a player retires?  What if a player dies?  How does that affect salary cap for the team?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Guaranteed is guaranteed. That means the club is on the hook for that money. So if a $40 million signing bonus is guaranteed and the player suddenly retires a year later, the team is responsible for the $40 million. Where they save money is with a player's yearly salary, unless that is guaranteed too.

Will the Steelers cut Mitch after the season and seek a cheaper backup?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
No, I think the opposite -- I think he will ask to be traded. Why would he want to stay here after the way he was treated?? I'm sure the Steelers would love to have a backup like Trubisky behind Pickett. His contract is very team friendly and is not out of line at all with other top backups in the league, in some instances even cheaper. But I don't think this is going to be about what the Steelers want.

Can DJ be coached to stop losing yards after the catch, he had an easy first down the other night and gave up 5 yards.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Sure he can. But I get it -- coaches don't want to take away a player's natural play-making ability, especially with a player like DJ who has shown that. However, in third-down situations, a player has to keep in mind that it's most essential to just get past the chains and not try to turn it into a larger gain

I hear that Bush is improving but when I watch the games he still seems clueless out there. Running to the wrong hole, etc. Do you agree that we need a replacement for next year as a priority?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I have been told that Bush is not the problem out there. But they have other priorities before that one

10:13
Hi Jerry, what do you think of the Steelers special  teams execution ?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I could steal the John McKay line here and say I'm in favor of it, but, let's face it, the coverage has not been very good.

The office is playing better. Does this mean that Matt Canada could be kept next year? I hope not!
Gerry Dulac
10:15
Yes it is and perhaps people should be careful what they root for.
