Ok kids, the chat will start in about 15 minutes, so get those questions ready to fire at me....

OK, let's get started...Go!!

Why does Tomlin laugh at pouting, immature behavior by players such as Pickens rather than simply not tolerating it? Players exhibiting such behavior have been detrimental to the Steelers and any team unlucky enough to draft such prima donnas.
Gerry Dulac
9:49
He is not laughing at the player; he said he is laughing at the "silly" comments being made about Pickens' ourburst, that they are ridiculous. But, there is merit to your later point.

Good morning, Gerry.  A number of Pittsburgh media people, including the PGs own PZ think that with the ongoing play of Kenny P, that MC should be retained for 2023. Your thoughts on this, please!  Thank you.
Gerry Dulac

I didn't read it. But, if Matt Canada is retained, it will be because of the progress of the offense overall, not simply the progress of Kenny Pickett. That's why they have QB coaches.

Hello Gerry, After looking at the Steelers remaining schedule, it looks like they have a legit shot at going over 500, especially with Jackson out!  The Raiders game is looking more interesting!!  Your take?
Gerry Dulac
9:53
Depends what you mean about legit, but I think the Raiders game might be their toughest test of the next three. That's because they have the type of guy the other teams on the schedule don't have -- a wide receiver like Davante Adams. I think we have seen what happens when the Steelers have to defend deep big-play receivers.

What is the enthusiasm level throughout the Steelers organization that Kenny Pickett is the franchise quarterback of the future? Or is there largely a “let’s wait and see” attitude?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
I think they are getting a good enough sample size to think there is a measure of enthusiasm. But I think a better measure of what he is or will become will come next season when the game slows down for him and they measure how he progresses from year 1 to year 2

Chicago is 0-4 since acquiring Claypool, and the Steelers are 3-1. Claypool caught a 15 yard pass last Sunday and then fumbled it away. He had 4 other catches for total 13 yards. Are you surprised?
Gerry Dulac
9:58
Surprised? I couldn't be surprised if I woke up tomorrow and my head was sewn to the carpet.

Hey Gerry, are you aware of how much cap space the Steelers will have this off season? Will they be in the top 10 in terms of space?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I hardly think so, not when they have contracts like T.J. Watt, who will count $29+ million, and Cam Heyward, who will count $22 million, and Minkah Fitzpatrick, who will count $18 million, in 2023. Now, I'm sure they will renegotiate those deals to clear some space. And they get Ben, JuJu and Tuitt off the books next year, which will clear another $20 million. They should be in decent cap shape, but not in the top 10.

If winning trend continues and Steelers select in the middle of first round, bears early second round and mid second, does cb come into play first followed in second by o line?  History shows top tackles usually gone early first.
Gerry Dulac
10:03
I would tend to agree

Steven Sims muffed a punt and made an unnecessary fair catch on Sunday. The previous game he muffed the punt and then mistakenly ran it out of the end zone. Will they try Gunner again or someone else on kick returns?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Some of the decision-making has been confusing, for sure. But when he catches it and holds on to it, he has been pretty good

Hi Gerry. Always enjoy your chats. Wonder what your thoughts are on Pickens tantrum and Tomlin’s reaction to it.
Gerry Dulac
10:07
I understand players getting frustrated, but, in Pickens' case, he is rookie, he hasn't been around long enough -- nor has he built a resume -- to merit acting like that. To me, he disrespects the organization when he publicly acts like that.

Hi Gerry:  Thanks for the Chats:  With all the Pickens wants the ball drama—Few are recognizing that the current Steeler WR corps are dropping 3-5 catchable balls per game.  No one is completely innocent.  Pickett would have a near 70% completion rate and the Defense would have a few extra minutes off the field each game if those catches are made. That is the issue that needs immediate attention.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
Agreed. But, other than Freiermuth, when was the last time you saw a receiver wide open somewhere beyond 10 yards??

Gerry, weighing the need to change OC in the off season, what’s your feeling on Kenny Pickett adjusting to a new system? I’m still on the dump Canada bandwagon while wearing my KP rose colored glasses 😆
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Haha. Well, they did it to Ben Roethlisberger two years ago, so, if they have to, they will do it to Kenny Pickett.

HI Gerry. Does Mike Tomlin extend his non losing season streak?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
No.

Are you able to head to Charlotte a day early next week to get a round in somewhere?

Fingers crossed

What moments from the game showed you that Kenny is continuing to develop?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Playing smart and not turning the ball over has been the biggest step he is making.

If Steelers offense shows some mild progress through the end of the season do you think Canada will be retained?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I'm not ruling out the possibility

With all the social media and podcasts that include former players reacting to every situation, saying what they would have done and what young players should do, do you think it's harder for younger players to find their own identity?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I don't know if that's the case, but it doesn't do any of them any good to get on social media and read what people say about them, including former players. I understand it can be human nature to do so, but, let's face it, social media is one of the great cripplers of our society, especially with young people.

if the offense continues to make 'baby steps' progress against weaker competition going forward is there a chance that Canada will be retained?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
There is always a chance.

10:16
Has the offense played well enough to save Canadas job? I personally dont think so as there are still a slot of flaws with play design and play calling.
Gerry Dulac
10:17
When you're 30th in the league in total TDs (19) and fourth from the bottom in total points (213), it's not exactly a flawless attack

Hi Gerry:  Thanks again for the Chats.  I’m no fan of Matt Canada but he has made a significant turn around in one regard.  Playing Derek Watt at full back.  Watt makes nice blocks, and he is a real beast on critical 1-2 yard plays.  Canada completely wasted him last year.  If you’re paying him play him.  Watt may be a real important piece against the Ravens.
Gerry Dulac
10:19
I'd go easy on that being a significant reason for the turnaround. He played seven plays against the Falcons and five against the Colts. I don't think that is impacting the game tremendously, though I do agree with you on this -- if you're going to pay him, play him some.
