OK kids, we're going to get started in just a few minutes, so get ready....

OK, let's get started....

I fully agree with your position that the first pick in the draft is Cam's replacement. Leal is not the one. Would you agree that Center is #2, and perhaps a good LT in free agency to allow WR in round 3? Thanks for your chats.
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Thanx! No, they don't need a LT, ir a RT. But I won't disagree that a true center, not a converted guard, should be in the mix. But I think ILB or S or WR should be in the conversation as well. If anybody can't see the need to redo the D-Line, they don't know what they're watching.

Joe Starkey’s headline the other day was “Why do Steelers receivers keep quitting?”.  Isn’t the simple answer:  because they can continue to do so with no significant ramifications?
Gerry Dulac
10:02
It's kind of early to say pay the man, but .... Pay the man!! The worst part isn't Pickens not doing his job, which is defiance and insubordination rolled into one. It's that it is allowed to happen without any repercussions.

Happy Holidays Gerry and thanks for your Steeler insight. Do you think the salary cap has watered down the quality of the game as there doesn’t seem to be any dominant teams. Looking at the a Steelers woes, TJ, Minkah and Cam seem to take the majority of the D $$$ while Ben took a big share of the O $$$ in his waning years. Should QB’s have a  separate cap? Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
The separate QB cap is something that has been advanced for the very reason you should suggest. While I don't think it's a bad idea, it might only make the problem worse. But that's the world of the NFL right now. Two or three players eat up so much of the cap that the rest of the roster has to be filled with marginal/cheaper players.

Much respect for the Rooney family for everything they have done for Pittsburgh over the years.  At the same time, I think Mr. Rooney has been too loyal to Tomlin.  It is highly likely Tomlin gets his contract extended.  But don’t you have to turn yourself into a pretzel for the logic of an extension to work?  You felt so strongly that the offensive coordinator needed to go that you made a very unusual move to fire him mid-season, but then you turn around and reward the head coach who hired that coordinator with an extension??

Oh my, we're just three questions into the chat and EVERYONE is making valid points and tremendous sense. This is another. Bravo

I don't remember what your thoughts on Mayfield were when he was with the Browns, but what have you seen of his play with Tampa? I've watched 3 of their games and he seems to be a totally different player from his time in Cleveland. I like how he will follow a run play and lay out a few licks on the other team's defensive players to help out his running back- just seems to be a team player. Would he be someone of interest from the Steelers after they figure out how to fix the QB situation; move on from current players? Do you personally think he would work in Pittsburgh?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
What I thought about Baker is I thought the Browns gave up on him too quickly. He was the heart of the resurgence and he had one bad year because of injuries and they moved on from him and wasted all that money of DeShaun Watson. But I don't think his style works here

Both Chuck Noll & Bill Cowher knew it was there time to step aside and did so with dignity.  You think Mike Tomlin can do the same?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
I'm not thinking that's going to be the case

Hi Gerry, best to you and your family for the holidays and thank you for your excellent work. What is your best guess: Does Mike Tomlin decide to leave the organization after this season?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Thank you. And no.

What % chance do you give Kenny starting over Mason this week as you sit right now?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
I give it better than 50/50. If not, I think the plan will be to start Mason, see how it goes, and go to Pickett if the struggles continue. Which, based on what we have witnessed all year, is bound to happen

Gerry, what was your “cringe” level when you read Pickens’ reason for not blocking yesterday?  He can’t possibly be on the team next yr, right?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I was listening to him when he said and it wasn't so much cringe for me as it was just unbelievable he would admit it. What will be just as unbelievable if the people in charge continue to play him and keep him. Why would you??

The offensive line bears a lot of blame for the recent Steelers slide and general offensive ineptitude.  What is your opinion of Pat Meyer's body of work?
Gerry Dulac
10:09
I have no problem with Pat Meyer. And I don't blame the line as much as I do other areas.
The Real TP Hunter

Gerry, what type of crowd do you expect Saturday? Knives out, or supportive?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Somewhere in between probably
Matt from LA
10:10
Your thoughts on the Kazee suspension? Fair? Over the top?
Gerry Dulac
10:11
Well, I didn't think he deserved to be ejected. Penalized, yes, but not ejected. Then, when he was suspended for the reason, I thought it was over the top. But I didn't realize he had been fined five times already this season for unnecessary roughness violations so I can understand why the league made the move.

You think Mike Tomlin has regretted not getting rid of Canada over the off season last year?  The poor offensive performance set the stage for this past season's problems.
Gerry Dulac
10:12
I don't think he thinks that at all. But I bet the rest of the organization does.

Hi Gerry, Cowher had a similar down period in his career where they missed the playoffs a number of years and fans were calling for his head, and the Rooneys stuck with him.  Do you recall if there are any similarities between that period and this one?  And did Cowher ever coach in a lame duck year, like Tomlin might have to in 2024?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
At the end of the 1999 season, the Steelers lost seven of their final eight games. Then they lost the first three games of the 2000 season, meaning they were 1-10 in that 11-game stretch. So, yeah, there have been stretches rougher than this. But I will point up that the following year, they went 13-3 and made it to the AFC title game.

What do you think Art Rooney II was thinking when Tomlin pulled Chris Boswell off the field to prevent him from making it a one score game with a 56 yard field goal in favor of Harvin (22 yards)?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I'm sure he cringed, just like everyone else.

Mornin Gerry,  Do you know if babysitting is listed in an NFL head coach job description?  And if so, how do you suppose such babysitting affects adult players in the locker room?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
It does not go over well, I can promise you that. At least, it doesn't go over well with the players who actually care.
Bill
10:14
Would you agree its time for the Steelers fanbase to root for the Steelers to lose to send a message to Art Rooney and improve draft positioning?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
I don't think rooting for them to lose is going to change anything. But I get your point. The bottom has to fall out and I don't think 8-9 or even 7-10 is going to be viewed as such.
Bill
10:16
The Mitch Trubisky obsession/experiment seems to be over. Can the Steelers cut him loose this off season or does he have a guaranteed contract? Any trade value?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
There is no guaranteed contract, other than his signing bonus. I'm sure there is some trade value, but nothing higher than a fifth- or sixth-round choice.

What additional personnel adjustments are possibilities for this week's game Tomlin alluded to?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
Nothing that will make a difference.
