OK lets get our chat started. I see bunch of questions already....

Gerry,  A lot has been said of the lack of discipline in multiple areas this year.  How does this compare with previous years?
Gerry Dulac
10:50
I think it's probably the same, just some made more public this time. That happens after a frustrating end to the season.
Moose
10:50
Were you surprised at all about Tomlin's lack of discipline when all of this stuff came to light?  Things such as missing practices, meetings, Harrison behavior, etc?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
I think some were more egregious than in the past, but your question was am I surprised there was no discipline for their behavior. No, and you can interpret that any way you choose.
JC
10:51
Gerry,  Do you think this current defensive coaching staff can get the Steeler D back on top?  I say no they have had a few years and not much changed.   Hopefully FO can enlighten Tomlin something has to change.
Gerry Dulac
10:51
And he doesn't want to make any changes on the defensive side of the ball...???

10:51
Do you think Ben said, "I'll play 3 more years.. if you lose Haley"?
Gerry Dulac
10:51
That is a case of making any assumption you want and you might not be wrong
mrbig
10:51
Isn't it ironic they they let LeBeau go so they could start younger players on d and now the younger players are blowing assignments?
Gerry Dulac
10:52
Younger doesn't always mean smarter

The once proud Steelers are become the joke of the league. Joe Starkey asks which Steeler will be playing for the Patriots in next year's Super Bowl and gives odds that it will probably be Martavis Bryant. Last year it was Blount; this year it will be Harrison. Has Tomlin lost control or did he never really have any control? I don't think the old man Rooney would have put up with Tomlin. Yes, there are worse coaches; but I think there are at least 10 better ones! Certainly there are none that are a greater embarrassment.
Gerry Dulac
10:53
I would venture to say the league does not consider the Steelers a joke. If so, they should all hire jesters

Haley got 42 points in the playoffs, now he's gone.... is there a rift with him & Ben or not? If your o coordinator gets 42 against a great defense, maybe Ben should suck it up?
Gerry Dulac
10:53
Maybe you're right

2018 we face Ryan, Newton, Rivers, Brady, Brees, Carr, Winston, and the Jags.  Little different than Keenum, Brissett, Savage, Hundley, and Kizer x2. Would you pick the over or under for a 10 win season with Bell playing.
Gerry Dulac
10:54
With or without. And haven't you learned by now injuries happen.
Jax
10:54
Gerry,  If the Steelers franchise Bell how will this impact their cap for 2018?  Mitchell and Dupree look like good candidates to go.
Gerry Dulac
10:54
Of course it will. It will count $14.5 million roughly. Mitchell is a given at $8 mill cap hit.

Have you ever written "Tomlin outcoached [coach's name] in such and such game"?
Gerry Dulac
10:55
Probably somewhere in those 13 wins this season. Or the 26 over the past two years. Or the 116 during his tenure. I imagine so.

Gerry, If Bell and the Steelers cannot workout a multi-year contract, which RB in the 2018 draft would be ideal to replace Bell's production? Any RBs  stick out in your mind?
Gerry Dulac
10:57
I haven't studied the draft yet, Will do that at the combine and what people are saying. But, to me, the Steelers could find several RBs in the draft who they could plug in that offense and behind that line and still win 13 games.

There is no I in Team, but there is a M and an E.  Too many "me" players allowed to do too many "me" things this year without consequences.  Tomlin seems stubborn, will he change his coaching style as far as discipline?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
He might have to because that is today's athlete. Trust me, their behavior and attitude sickens players from the past, and I'm not talking the 70s, 80s, or 90s. I mean the recent past, like since Ben has been here. Not all of them, but enough of them.

Gerry, do the Steelers need to invest in a true zero technique nose tackle for games against the Jags, Ravens and other teams that see a weakness up the middle of the Steeler defense?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
They have one -- Hargrave. They just don't employ him enough. They didn't as much as they would have liked against Jax because he had a lower-back injury and wasn't very effective because of it. But they did use a lot of 3-man fronts vs Jags and it didn't matter. They got blown off the line of scrimmage, all of em

Gerry, how serious were the injuries to Tuitt and Hargrove? Expected a tough battle in the trenches, but not the outright dominance of the Jag’s O-line.
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Enough that it mattered. Like I said, Hargrave's lower back madwe it difficult for him to play. And Tuitt hyper-extended his elbow in practice, effectively making him a one-arm player. Still, they get blown off the ball, very simple. No excuses

Another season wiped out by a poor finish. Continuity sometimes gets old. What do the Steelers do to put an end to the collapse witnessed over the last 2 years?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
I wouldn't call getting to the AFC title game and losing to Brady in NE last year a collapse. I would call the end to this season frustrating, disappointing and unexpected.

Hi Gerry! After losing to Green Bay in our last Super Bowl, the 're-build' of the defense began. Well that's been almost a decade ago...and our defense is basically worse. Are you as depressed as I am?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
No

Gerry,  do you have any sense of what the team will do with Bell,  franchise him again,  or let him walk and use the money elsewhere (I'm assuming Bell will turn down a long term as not sufficient)?  Seems like no matter what they do it will be the wrong thing.
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I wouldn't sign him, and I think they are starting to lean in that direction. I wouldn't be shocked if they didn't franchise him, given his suspensions, camp holdout (which will happen again) and social-media nonsense. In fact, I'd be in favor of it. I'd put the exclusive tag on him and if someone offered two No. 1 picks, I'd get the party room ready.

Hello Gerry, thanks for the chats and your expertise on the Steelers. I've been a fan since 64 and don't think I've seen as much circus around the team as has occurred this year. With the CBA is it just that the team has less control over the players or is social media the root of the immaturity that seems to be pervasive throughout the league?
Gerry Dulac
11:06
The latter is the case. That is today's athlete and, to me, it's the number 1 reason the fans are turned off. It's not the game. Oh the inconsistency of the officiating is annoying. But it doesn't cause the same distaste as the nonsense of the player on social media and in the game. Immaturity is a good word, but not strong enough

Gerry, How much did the loss of Shazier and his adjustments to the defensive calls affect the defense?
Gerry Dulac
11:07
150 percent, and don't discount that!!! They know it and what are they supposed to do when it happens in December? Have another Shazier on the bench to replace him?

Sign and trade, or just not resign Bell, cut Mitchell.  Can use saved money to sign:  a released Demarco Murray, Demario Davis, and Kenny Vacarro.  Can draft the Alabama ILB in rd 1, rb in middle rounds.  Thoughts?
