I don't think they have to start over. Again, they are not that far away. As I said, they were the fifth best defense in the league. You just dont see the other 27 teams and the problems they have.

How do the Steelers feel about Haley going to Cleveland?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
They shouldn't feel anything. They were the ones who released him.

Do the Steelers coaches still see Davis and Burns as the defensive starters of the future?
Gerry Dulac
11:28
Yep. Why? You had enough of them after 2 years??
Matt
11:28
Gerry, how many wideouts we drafting this year? From the look of it now, we have 84,10,19,88 & that’s the list.
Gerry Dulac
11:29
They always draft a WR.
Jake
11:29
I know it was only 1 game, but I thought Cam Sutton looked very good against New England, with another year of preparation, hopefully injury free during training camp. Can you see the Steelers having an open competition between Sutton and Burns?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
Doesn't matter. They need three good CBs anyway for all their sub packages.
Matt
11:30
Everyone wants them to draft cb early but I disagree. You got haden, burns, hilton, sutton, gay, sensabaugh, allen on the roster. How would they get on the field?
Gerry Dulac
11:30
They are not drafting a cornerback early, so whoever is intimating that doesn't know what they are talking about
Matt
11:30
any chance Spence comes back?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Probably not. If so, strictly a backup.

The last I've heard about Shazier was that he got feeling back in his legs, that was a few weeks ago. Any more updates?
Gerry Dulac
11:31
Not sure who is providing you with info
Bob
11:31
did you find it as funny as i did that ben contemplated retirement last year, but this year after he assumed/knew haley would be gone, he said he'd play 3 more years

off topic here but what did you think of tiger last weekend?
Gerry Dulac
11:32
That he shot 3-under with where he hit it is amazing. His short game stood out most to me. It was very good.

The defense isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. Shazier going down was HUGE. On runs inside the tackles Steelers allowed 2.90 yards/carry (1st) with Shazier and without him allowed 4.81 yards/carry (31st). Can't overlook how big a difference it made replacing a special talent in Shazier with a guy off the street.

Finally, some common sense. Pay the man

thinking about L. Bell. The Steelers didn't make it to the Super Bowl with him in 16 & 17, but they did show they could make it to the playoffs without him in 14 & 15. He is replaceable.
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Yes he is. So long as you have 7, 84, 19 and that O-line

Any FA ILBs to fit in the Steelers scheme?
Gerry Dulac
11:33
Haven't looked yet
Matt
11:33
Do you believe Shazier will be back on the field next year for the Steelers bc he is hinting it on social media. & if he is do they still draft a mlb early?
Gerry Dulac
11:34
I think they draft an ILB with their top pick, so long as one with a first-round grade is available.

Jason Worilds Jarvis Jones Bud Dupree Linebacker scouting could be the issue your thoughts
Gerry Dulac
11:37
Jason Worilds looks like Von Miller compared to the other two right now

Hi Gerry, How do people keep saying AB is the 'most irreplaceable player' on the Steelers? When Ben got hurt in 2015 with is knee AB was basically invisable for 4 games. Then AB gets hurt against the Pats, the Steelers WIN (It was a catch) without him for 3/4s of that game and THEN torch the Texans. summation it's all 7 or nothing.
Gerry Dulac
11:38
Again, people who say that don't know what they are talking about. It is very simple -- 7 most irreplaceable on offense, 50 most irreplaceable on defense. End of discussion
OK, kids, that's all the time we have today. See you next week
