Have you caught any hints of the five teams that've inquired about Brown?
Gerry Dulac
2:17
Nope. Nor has anyone else
Adam
2:17
Do you think the Steelers would go after someone the likes of Golden Tate to potentially replace AB?
Gerry Dulac
2:18
No, nor should they. They don't need that type of receiver. The free-agent receiver who best fits the AB model is John Brown.
Adam
2:18
I am of the opinion that if Tomlin misses the playoffs this year, he should not be retained as head coach. I believe, however that he absolutely should be a coach elsewhere due to his success in Pittsburgh. It seems that he has run his course here. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
2:19
He has certainly run his course with the fans, who email me, tweet me, text me and chat w me about their displeasure

Given that AB is all but gone and that most rookie wide receivers are not ready to start right away, do you see the Steelers pursuing a starting-caliber free agent WR or rolling with James Washington opposite JuJu?
Gerry Dulac
2:20
Not really. I won't rule it out, but that type of receiver will cost more against the salary cap than a rookie receiver in 2019. So add that to the $21 million they are on the hook for if Brown is traded and it creates an unwanted cap situation

Why does it seem that a number of Steeler veteran players would welcome AB back while the PG writers seem violently opposed to his possible return?
Gerry Dulac
2:26
First of all, what would you expect the players to say publicly? That they don't want him in their locker room? Secondly, it's not about what the players think. It's about what Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert and, more important, what Art Rooney II think. After the way AB disrespected them and the organization, why would they want him back. To bring him back would be to send a message to every player in that locker room that it doesn't matter what you do -- skip practice, meetings, disrespect the coach and owners -- nothing will happen. You'll even still get paid. By bringing him back, Tomlin, Colbert and Rooney will lose the respect of that locker room and set a dangerous precedent for any young player who might be dissatisfied with something and fear no repercussion. That's the danger. That's why

Considering our history of drafting CB’s and the lack of quality ILBers available in free agency. Would it not be prudent to go free agency for the DB and draft the ILB. If indeed we do trade Brown use that pick(presumably a high second) to draft his replacement?
Gerry Dulac
2:27
I believe that's what they will try to do, especially if a trade can improve their draft position

2:27
Gerry , do you view Michigan LB Devin Bush as a legitimate first round target for the Steelers in this years draft?
Gerry Dulac
2:28
Might be a little too early to say legitimate, but he fits what they are looking for. Better than what they have

I think the Steelers should sign the best free agent cornerback.  That will improve Hayden’s play and longevity.  This would free up the Steelersto to pursue IB....WR....DL/TE with three picks in the first 52. ( AB bringing at least a high second).  The defense’s improvement would certainly help an evolving offense.  Thoughts❓ Thanks
Gerry Dulac
2:29
Not going to argue, though don't expect them to sign THE best CB available. They typically don't operate that way. But someone who is at least much better than what they have. Not better. Much better

If you could get T-Sizzle (Terrell Suggs, for those of you who didn't graduate from Ball So Hard University) for $9mil instead of Dupree, do you?
Gerry Dulac
2:29
Heck no

More painful FA loss: Hilton or James? Neither's making the HoF but both are productive contributors.

James

If there is no ILB or CB the Steelers think is worthy of #20 overall, what position do you think they would target?

I hate to be vengeful, but I’ll be watching AB and Bell closely next year and hoping they don’t fair too well with their new respective teams. Without our stellar O Line and Big Ben, I highly doubt either player will find themselves putting up any outrageous stats. Do you think we will see a significant drop off in their performances next year?
Gerry Dulac
2:30
Yes I do. For certain.

Hi Gerry, thanks for the chat. Considering the Steelers' hits and misses over the last few years, scouting seems to be an art and a science. With all the tape available on prospects, how does the combine help with drafting players?
Gerry Dulac
2:32
Medical info and interviews. That has swayed more opinions than anything they see on the field in drills

The 'talking heads' on ESPN have officially become ridiculous and I have now completely quit listening/watching.  The way they jumped on Colbert's 'kids' comment without giving the slightest thought to seeing how it was meant in context is bush-league journalism based solely on sensationalism.  Then they all pounded on it all day that day even embellishing it by saying he inferred players had to refer to Ben as 'Daddy' which absolutley no one said.  Pathetic.  Really appreciate your all's local perspective.

Couldn't agree more. But I have not had to stop watching because I never watched in the first place.

Say the Steelers can't find a suitable trade partner. Can they withhold Brown's roster bonus under "conduct detrimental" clause?
Gerry Dulac
2:33
Nobody knows what's in Brown's contract, except him, his agent and the Steelers

Gerry,  Would you expect any team to want to have a conversation with AB about expectations (of both parties) before finalizing any trade with the Steelers?  On the one hand, I could see a team almost demanding it for obvious reasons, but could understand the Steelers not wanting to because it gives AB a chance to at sabotage the trade.    PS  Hope you get a chance to dine at St. Elmos!
Gerry Dulac
2:34
Thanx man. Yeah, I could see most teams wanting to talk w him, though I think they all have their ways of doing their due diligence. At least they should.

Which Steeler makes it to HoF first: Polamalu or Faneca?
Gerry Dulac

Polamalu

Hi Gerry. Long time fan. Do you agree that Grimble ill advised avoidable fumble in Denver started the Steelers slide to missing playoffs and all the drama? I point to that 1 particular play 100%. Belichick would have cut him the next day!
Gerry Dulac
2:35
Not 100 percent, but it didn't help. And you're right about Belichick.
2:36
Ok, kids, that's all the time I have today. Back to the combine.
