OK kids, let's get our chat started on this snowy dreadful morning....

What is Vance McDonalds status and will he be here next year?
Gerry Dulac
10:00
Yes of course. They really like him. Once he was healthy, he showed he can be a very viable weapon in the pass game

Hi Gerry, long time Steelers fan but first time in here. In your opinion what is the problem with Bud Dupree? Lack of talent, bad coaching, not enough heart??? He seems to have the physical tools but for some reason it's not working. Have a nice day!!!
Gerry Dulac
10:02
JP, thanx for the entree....I think it's the latter. That and some not so good technique. He's too passive in the run game -- watch his footwork -- and he takes too wide an arc in the pass rush. If QBs took 7-step drops like they used to, he'd have 12-15 sacks. But they don't. Go back ansd take a look at Leonard Fournette's 18 yard TD run to Dupree's side in the playoff game, Dupree gets knocked off his feet. How does that happen w a 260-pound OLB????

It seems to me that the Steelers #1 need is a playmaker on defense.  Agree?
Gerry Dulac
10:03
Yes I do. That's why the loss of Shazier is so big. He was their defensive playmaker.

The Steelers had 16 INTs last year as a team.  What is considered a good number for a season.  16 seems kind of low.
Gerry Dulac
10:04
It's not low, it's kind of right in the middle. But not enough splash plays were created off those interceptions, that's part of the problem
Joe McDonnell
10:04
If you were the gm and if possible would you trade bell in exchange for Barkley? I would in a heart beat!
Gerry Dulac
10:04
So would I

Do you expect the Steelers to draft a S?  If they draft one early they could cut Wilcox.
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I don't think the signing of Morgan Burnett changes their plans for the draft. But it does reduce the sense of urgency.
Andy
10:05
Do you think the Steelers will keep DHB?
Gerry Dulac
10:05
Unless they get a viable alternative....That's the least of their concerns
Pete
10:05
The Steelers could use an upgrade over Grimble at TE.  I think it’s unlikely they’ll draft a TE early.  What do you think?
Gerry Dulac
10:06
Grimble is a No. 3 tight end. I don't think ANY team worries about replacing a No. 3 tight end.

With Bostic & Burnett's injury history, the Steelers still need to go ILB & S as Rd1 & Rd2 in the draft, correct?
Gerry Dulac
10:07
That is correct. ILB for sure. Bostic is not viewed as a long-term cure, just a stop gap until their No. 1 or No. 2 pick is ready to start. Plus, where else are they going to go? Maybe CB. DL depth? RB? QB?

Writers and fans see the same things on game day. Writers usually have a better prespective regarding the inside facts of what is happening.  Fans tend to blame coaching for last year's less than satisfactory results. Writers tend to lay the blame on talent. Which, game preparation or talent do you think contributed most to our lack of potential success last year?
Gerry Dulac
10:08
Neither. It was desire, intensity on the part of the players. They were out-physicalled by the Jaguars, plain and simple

With Burnett signing does this mean Davis moves to free safety? I always thought he would make a better FS given his elite speed. That and Mitchell was more of thumper and would have been best suited in the box. Was I alone in that thinking? Obviously Tomlin thought differently.
Gerry Dulac
10:09
You have heard me say here and elsewhere for the past month that when the Steelers get rid of Mitchell, they will consider moving Sean Davis to free safety because they like his range. Getting Burnett, a strong safety, about guarantees that

Has the pump fake disappeared from Ben’s arsenal or is it just my imagination?   It seems like he used to be able to misdirect the defense with it and create a little space for our receivers.
Gerry Dulac

Imagination

The Steelers sign Bostic and Burnett, two players with talent but injury prone backgrounds. Does this change their upcoming draft strategy?
Gerry Dulac
10:10
Not really. See above answer

Gerry, can't the Steelers take Shazier's 8+ million and convert it into a singing bonus and extend him at least 1 year beyond 2019?  This would create some space and show they're committed to his long term rehabilitation. They like having 3-4 million in cap space to make in season moves.
Gerry Dulac
10:11
They could re-do his contract if they choose

Your colleague Mr. Cook wrote a few days ago the Steelers blew it by not signing Matheiu. Burnett seems to be a decent addition, so do you agree or disagree with said colleague?
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Soon as Mathieu became available, I immediately tweeted he is a Troy Polamalu-like player, meaning he is a playmaker, a difference maker, a guy you can line all over the field. So, yeah, I thought he would have been a great addition to help make up for the loss of their biggest playmaker, Shazier

Do you think Tom Bradley's expertise as a defensive coach will have a big impact on our secondary?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
Absolutely. Tom knows offenses and defenses and is a stickler for fundamentals. Plus he has experience with the read-option from his college days

What’s the hurry to fill two positions of need, but with players that have a track record of injury and/or history of not many big plays / take aways?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
If nothing else, they need bodies.

is it safe to say, the Bell contract has the Steelers pigeon holed and now are bargain shopping? What’s the difference between Mitchell and Burnett, a couple million? Why Bostic over some one with a more durable track record? Thanks
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Sure it does. But the Steelers have never been a team that spend big money on marquee free agents. It's tough to argue w their success.

10:14
With the addition of Bostic and Burnett, would you now draft the best available athlete, an eventual replacement for Bell, or depth at LB?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
No. I still draft an ILB at No. 1, and I think they still think the same way. So long as one they like is available.
Ronniefrm Alb

Hi Gerry!!! I assume Bud Dupree not receiving his 5th year option so do u think the Steelers will draft outside rusher early in draft. Thank you.
