What is the likely end scenario for Leveon Bell and the Steelers?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
I think this -- I don't think it works out well for either side, whether he signs a contract or has to sign the franchise tag.
Drew

What if Pitt gives Bell to what he wants in Gtd $$ and trades him along with #28  for the #1 pick (CLE) plus a late rounder .  He gets his money and no offensive line and rots there for the next 4 years and then Pitt takes Barkley and use the extra cap space for Bowman and a safety?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
I'm afraid that's dreaming
Robert
11:04
Would be very shrewd of Steelers to see if impact RB falls to them in 2nd, 3rd round then pick him up and pull Tag. therefore getting rid of all the baggage. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:04
The draft will speak to their intentions. If they do that, that should let you know of their intentions

Hi Jerry. Do you think the Steelers would actually have Bell play under the tag this year and it’s $14.5 M cap hit or is this just buying them more time to work out a long term deal or trade?  If it were my decision, I would cut bait.  I think he may be more of a malcontent this year playing under the f tag.  And, we could use that $ to shore up the D.  Draft a young back, bring in a cost friendly vet RB to fill Bell’s spot. What do you think and Thanks for the chat.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
It is buying them more time and they can always rescind the tag. Look, they let Franco go years ago and wouldn't budge when their best offensive lineman, Alan Faneca, wanted more money. I don't see them capitulating now, either. If they do, look out. It goes against everything they have stood for ...and everything that has made them successful.

Gerry, now that Bell has been tagged putting them 9 million over the cap, how will they create enough room to cover that and still sign players they need such as Boswell and Chickillo? Not to mention fill the other defensive holes.
Gerry Dulac
11:08
They will sign Boswell and others, but they will have to make more drastic moves and re-do some deals. Even though they are the best at managing the cap, it still would put them in a very tough position.

Gerry, Who has a better chance of winning another major before they are done, Tiger or Phil?
Gerry Dulac
11:08
I think Phil can win the Masters this year. T6, T5, T3 and a win in his last four starts
Joe
11:09
Gerry, I trust your view of the Steelers.  Do you think, as Ed intimated, that the Steelers might pull the tag on Bell if they find someone else?  Labriolla loves the Steelers keeping Bell.  I like it, but at what cost?  What do you think their intention is?
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Their intention would be to keep Bell at the right price, not at his price. Plus, do you know the repercussions if they let a player dictate the price --an exorbitant, out-of-market price -- to them??? I'd be shocked.
Sdsteel
11:10
Considering drug suspensions, attitude, professionalism, declining on field play, leadership, injuries, age, and mileage on a running back all should AND DO factor into contract negotiations, what is Bell thinking??? If he had not been  suspended for drugs multiple times, was a leader and model citizen/teammate would he be asking for $20M per year, 100% guaranteed?  He needs a reality check.  Time to cut bait and move on.  I think there are plenty of RB’s you can plug into this offense and be successful. Let’s go get a stud RB in the draft and spend the 14.5 on defense. One fan’s opinion.
Gerry Dulac
11:10
You're not alone. Do not forget his injury and suspension history
Josh
11:11
This is a worst case scenario with bell because steelers can't plan now with his status for holding out up in the air. They should set an another artificial deadline where they tell him they either reach a deal or rescind the tag and let him test free agency. They need to rip the bandaid if  this isn't going to work so they can draft/address free agency accordingly. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
I think history has show they know what they are doing. They are not dumb
Drew
11:11
Sign and trade Bell.  Give him $$ he wants, trade to Browns along with # 28 for the Number 1 pick and draft Barkley?  Use extra cap space for Bowman or another ILB
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Oh, ok
Rich
11:11
Gerry good morning, I’m a Bell fan but his price has handicapped our ability to sure up the defense. I would prefer they let him walk and sign about back , would you agree?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
I'm a fan of Bell's talents as well. I have not, do not and will not denigrate them. But this goes beyond that
Kevin Reich
11:12
Do you question Bell's desire to win Superbowls? How will his desire change after a long term deal?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Not at all.
Ryno
11:12
Has Bell not gotten the memo that it is supposed to be wide receivers that are the divas?
Gerry Dulac
11:12
Ha, I'll tell him.
11:16
Let me say this about what a star running back can mean to a team.  I don't think Todd Gurley has made a young Jared Goff a better QB and, as such, made the Rams offense better. I believe Ezekiel Elliott had made a young Dak Prescott better. And while having Le'Veon Bell makes the Steelers offense good, it doesn't make Ben Roethlisberger any better. This offense runs around Ben and 84. Ben is going to be  good whether Bell is there or not.
Ryno
11:16
Pouncey made the comment that the Steelers just need to pay Bell. When players make comments like that, do they not realize there are cap implications and that signing one of their friends like that is inevitably going to mean releasing a couple of their other friends?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
He should be a team leader, not a cheerleader.
Ike Steelheart
11:16
Gerry, at 28 would The Steelers be able to pick either a good ILB or a good Safety?
Gerry Dulac
11:16
yes
Ryno
11:16
I've read they are looking at redoing the pass interference penalty. Would you be in favor of two different variations of it? One being a standard 10-yard penalty, or for much more egregious interference, putting the ball at the spot of the foul?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
That's exactly what I'm in favor of!!
Ryno
11:17
What kind of money and duration contract would you give Boswell?
Gerry Dulac
11:17
I'd pay him near the top kickers in the league, the upper quarter for sure. He's earned it
Matt
11:18
Gerry, Top 5 positions of need entering FA & the draft are in order ILB,S,RB,WR,DT. Thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:19
Pretty spot on. Don't think a RB will be that high if Bell is signed. And, if one is, that might tell you what they are thinking about re-signing him
The Standard
11:19
The Steelers are at a crossroads - losing Shazier is a disaster for the defense and they need to fix it no matter the cost - if that means letting Bell go so they can get quality ILB's and Safeties so be it.  Again, the Super Bowl is the goal - they have not got there even with Bell.
Gerry Dulac
11:20
Yes they are...a big one.

Hi Gerry, looking at the Steelers history of how they operate, and keeping in mind no one not involved in  LB's contract talks really knows all the details, plus the fact the Steelers rarely make mistakes in these situations ,  should we all just take a deep breath and see how this plays out?
