OK kids, get those questions ready. We will be starting our chat in approx 10 min.

Ok...Go!!!!

With the departure of Todd Healy coupled with new offensive tools do you thing the offense will be explosive and high scoring this year
Gerry Dulac
10:01
What, 42 points in a playoff game wasn't high-scoring and explosive enough for you? You should hope it's AS high-scoring and explosive.

Ben is still great, but not getting any younger.  This year, do you expect he will be the same or start to decline a little?
Gerry Dulac
10:01
Based on the way he has performed the past three years, there is absolutely no reason or evidence to suggest he will begin to decline this year

Now I see that the Steelers plan all along has been to get Ben to play longer. Firing Haley got him 2 to 3 years. Drafting Rudolph got him 3 to 5 years. Next, we should cut Le'Veon Bell and use the 14.5 mil to sign Alex Guerrero away from Tom Brady. This would get Ben 6 to 9 years and also cause Brady to instantly wither into an old man like Dorian Gray. Can you get my plan to Colbert immediately?

Best question/observation I've had all year!!!

Gerry love the chats. Way to early to criticize the draft picks, give these kids a chance to see how they fall into place in our system. While OLB is a need, i dont think its urgent. My ask is focus on ILB. While Bostic may be serviceable, its not the answer. I'm glad they didnt reach for an ILB. With that said, are there any rumblings of an ILB that "may" be released during training camp, and might we have the $'s to get him? I think we need a sideline-to-sideline ILB, we will have a better chance than last year for sure. Our other losses were not substantial. What say you?
Gerry Dulac
10:04
Agreed. Bostic is just serviceable and not a long-term solution at ILB. And they shouldn't have reached (and they didn't) for an ILB in the draft. But, after signing Bostic, I'm not sure they're going to spend a lot of money to bring in another ILB to start ahead of Bostic. Either way, little was done to correct the problem, but we shall see.

Hwy Gerry, is it fair to speculate that they may be using a ILB by committee approach with the drafting of some biggish SS that may fill in on that position on passing downs or situations? I saw where the measurable were pretty much the same for Edmunds and Shazier except Shazier was 15-20lbs. heavier... thoughts???
Gerry Dulac
10:05
I don't know if it's by committee, but they're thinking is this: Because they play so much sub-package defense -- 75 percent of the time, according to Tomlin -- they need bigger defensive backs on the field to help against the run. Ergo, Burnett and Edmunds.

Gerry (Sorry sent prior question with wrong spelling) - talk me off the ledge. I have been a  Steelers fan for over 40 years and right now I have no hope for this team to ever win another SB until Tomlin is gone - Tomlins lack of leadership is reflected in his poor player management, poor game management, looking ahead on the schedule as does his players,  leading to Tomlin teams consistently playing lousy against inferior teams. Tomlin cant beat the Pats, Jags, Raiders. This lack of discipline, focus and structure is reflected in the locker room which is ALWAYS full of drama,  selfish individuals, unfriendly team social media posts/interviews, players who dont speak the company line, players who appear to prepare more for TD celebrations than opponents, wanna be rappers, and players/coaches who feel they can skip practices or come in late....Cowhers teams had numerous leaders' on each team that held the others accountable- too many to name here. Who is leading this drama show no
Gerry Dulac
10:12
Unfortunately, too much of what you complain about in the latter portion of your question is symptomatic of today's professional athlete -- borish, selfish, egocentric, self-aggrandizing behavior. Still, there needs to be a shorter leash on some of these guys, two in particular, and it needs to come from the head coach. But I wouldn't put on him all the things you suggest in the opening. And I liked your reference of "clown show" better than "drama show."

Ridley has been a fairly productive back during his career. Why do you think he is on his 7th team and was available in December of last year?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
I think you answered your own question when you said "fairly."

10:13
Isn't Ben right about Dobbs being a wasted pick?
Gerry Dulac
10:13
In retrospect, yes he is. I Tweeted that on draft night
Jamie
10:13
Any chance they move Edmunds or Allen to ILB?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Nope
dave
10:14
I'm almost afraid to ask, but what does the depth chart at ILB look like now?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
Don't ask!!
SuperYooper
10:14
Do you see James Washington spending a lot of time in the slot?
Gerry Dulac
10:14
I see him playing all three WR spots actually
JARVIS
10:14
The eye ball test says that Matakevich is not cut out to play the Mack yet it appears he will be the number one backup at both spots again this season. Is there more to his game than meets the eye?
Gerry Dulac
10:15
What you see is what you get. Not very big, can be blocked easily, but smart enough to anticipate and try to get to the hole before the blocker.
Ben
10:15
Morning Gerry, looking back at the draft, did it surprise you that the Steelers rated Edmunds higher than Justin Reid and Ronnie Harrison?
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Not really. And so did a lot of other people, judging from the way those other two slid out of the first round
SteelMox
10:16
I would like to ask what is the real chance of Justin Hunter getting ito the offense as a potential deep threat? From what I know of his past and what little I saw of him with Pitt he seems to have some tools to go deep... any chance they give him some deep balls this year??
Gerry Dulac
10:16
Not very good
Robert
10:16
Do you think the team plans to run the big nickel as their main sub package with a Safety playing the Shazier role?  It could work out well if the young Safeties step up
Gerry Dulac
10:17
That is exactly their plan
Kevin
10:17
PFF rated Davis as one of the worst safeties over the previous two seasons.  Is he in danger of losing a starting position or: (a) are Steelers happy with his play; or (b) do Steelers believe he'll play better at FS?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
B.

There is a lot of clamor from everyone on not drafting n ILB. Having moved to Georgia from Pgh 27 yrs ago i am familiar with UGA football. I remember that Thomas Davis was a big safety for UGA and has been an outstanding ILB for Carolina for years. Can your foresee this happening with one of Pittsburghs safeties?
Gerry Dulac
10:17
He is an example of what the Steelers are hoping to do with Edmunds
Andrew, Australia

Kendricks of Philly to the Steelers for a 5th rounder. Just smoke?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
Who is fanning the flame to create that smoke?
Tony in largo
10:18
Gerry will the Steelers keep rookie Samuels as a third TE or a running back? If running back who goes?
Gerry Dulac
10:18
We shall see. Let's get him on the field in pads first.
