Lots of teams face backup QB or teams with injured players. Happens to everybody. Can't single out the Steelers as being lucky. I agree they dropped off big time after Shazier's injury, but they had no plan or player to help negate his loss. They have had a full offseason to find players and develop a plan to be better now. We shall see

Give it time. I like Cam Sutton anywhere on the field but they haven't used him at safety so don't hold your breath.

With the obvious signs that Bell will not be back next year, will the steelers be able to afford a bigger name free agent than previous years? Particularly with Shazier off the books and possibly Dupree (depending on his play), it looks to me like there should be a decent amount of cap space

Sorry Gerry, I wasn't clear regarding OL investment. I was referring to investing higher draft picks for backups, because we are getting older across the OL. Chuks in the 3rd round was a brilliant move

Ahhhh I see.... yes, Chuks was a good move, especially after Hawkins got hurt. But, really, look at some of the success they've had with OL who were low picks or FAs -- Foster, Al Villanueva, Kelvin Beachum, Chris Hubbard. It can be risky investing high picks in offensive linemen. Most of the league has discovered that.

How high would they Steelers go in terms of draft picks (2nd, 3rd, 4th?), and how much cap room can they create (currently have about $4.5m left) if someone is willing to trade a higher priced vet who would represent an upgrade for Pit?

The upgrade is having Sean Davis at FS, not Mitchell, who couldn't run anymore

You and everyone else, it appears, and I get it. Their inside backers are average at best. In fact, this is one of the worst LB units, across the board, the Steelers have had in years. But Thomas isn't the immediate answer, trust me
