OK, lets get our chat started...go!!!

Do you expect Golson to be back after the first preseason game?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
No. He had a pretty good tear of the hammy

10:58
Is Juju pushing Rogers for the slot job?
Gerry Dulac
10:58
Not right now. But he will play

Say it ain't so...are the Steeelers going to struggle again this year in the secondary?
Gerry Dulac
10:59
Now before you panic, remember they were very much improved in the secondary last year in the regular season. It was in the AFC title game in which they were exposed. They should be better but it concerns me I see the same personnel on the field, at least right now

The Post Gazette has an article posted yesterday about how Matakevich is currently the top backup at middle linebacker....however, the official depth chart posted on Steelers.com says otherwise.  Which source should we trust?
Gerry Dulac
11:00
Dont pay attention to the depth chart on the website. It doesn't always reflect what actually is going on. He is the top backup
Leaper
11:00
How good is Hilton looking?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
Very good. But he is also very small and they're trying to get away from corners like that.

Are you planning on Bryant returning this week?
Gerry Dulac
11:01
I was told Sunday night he has met all his requirements and they were expecting his return to be imminent

How is TJ Watt doing in camp?  Will he be starting game 1?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
TJ is looking very good. My guess is he will not start Game 1 but he will play, and a lot.
Big Daddy
11:02
Do you think Joshua Dobbs will move past Jones on the depth chart if he shows something in the pre-season?
Gerry Dulac
11:02
No. Landry Jones is the No. 2 QB when healthy
Leaper
11:02
Will Matakevich see significant time on defense this year?
Gerry Dulac
11:03
Only if there is an injury.

Do you think Bell was foolish not to accept Steelers offer? Could it be increased next offseason?
Gerry Dulac
11:05
Yes I do. What if he gets injured this year, rips up a knee. Guess what? Then there is no franchise tag and no $14 million. There will also be no big contract offer. The Steelers offered him in excess of $42 million over four years. That contract would have included a big signing bonus and guaranteed money, even if he were injured. If he's healthy and he gets $26.5 million over 2 years with the franchise tag, then it's not a bad deal. But he cant assume that, especially w his history

I think Heyward-Bay is a terrible receiver, can't catch, please tell me he gets cut and Demarcus Ayers makes the team. I thought Ayers showed toughness, speed, and brains last year and can also return punts.
Gerry Dulac
11:06
I think it's going to come down more to Justin Hunter and DHB, but don't discount Ayers. I agree. I like what I saw last year only because I didnt expect much

Any update on the status of the injured secondary players, Burns etc.?  Obviously, that units health and ability to cover are one the keys to success this year.
Gerry Dulac
11:07
Burns is fine. But they need to get Cam Sutton back on the field. He has yet to practice in pads and they were hoping he could quickly develop into their nickel back. Golson is such a longshot and has shown so little that nobody here is holding their breath awaiting his return

Am I alone in the idea that I prefer going into a season as the hunter and not the hunted? I think the Steelers will benefit from less hype and less expectation rather than this presumption that they are Super Bowl or bust because of last year. The same focus need be applied to each and every game leading to the playoffs. I hope that this team's ethos really is about grinding every game rather than the fanfare of how talented the team is and scoring 30 points per game. Your thoughts?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
You can apply any thought process you want, it doesnt matter -- they are the among the hunted, if not the hunted. It's not a position you can choose. They can be very good. They know it, the league knows it.

Have you heard about any of the injured guys being out long term?
Gerry Dulac
11:09
No. Golson maybe couple more weeks

Whats the scoop w/ pouncey??  BJ sez we need a "healthy" Pounce..  no mention injury.. MT keeping him out so to see others in position??
Gerry Dulac
11:10
Pouncey got a cut in his lower leg the other day from a cleat. That's why he's been out. Relax, he doesn't need to practice

Gerry, top 4 cb's in order are Burns,Cockrell,Gay,Sutton?
Gerry Dulac
11:11
Ideally, yes, but tough to put Sutton in there now because he hasn't practiced in pads. And that's what they want to see. The guy I want to see is Brian Allen, their 5th rd pick. He has ALL the tools.

Hi Gerry - really enjoy your writing! If we roll out the same exact 3 CB's in nickel this year as last year with Burns, Cockrell and Gay - how are we any better prepared to play more press man considering Tomlin said we did not have the personnel to do so in the AFC championship vs the Cheetriots?? According to what I read Gay is still the starter at nickel - I know Sutton and Golson have been hurt all camp but it doesn't look good for any real changes?? Unless you think Mike Hilton is the answer??
Gerry Dulac
11:13
I agree. That's what I was referring to earlier when I said the personnel remains the same. Look, Artie Burns is good, and he will be better this year. You can see that. Mike Hilton is not an answer. He is just vying to be a backup who wont play unless there is an injury. Sutton and Allen could be answers, especially Sutton, but he needs to get on the field.
11:15
You can't just go to Costco and find shutdown corners. But they have made attempts in the draft to target secondary players in the first round. Unfortunately guys they liked were gone and they stuck to their grading system. They wanted to take Jabrill Peppers this year but he was gone. Hey, maybe Artie Burns is that guy.
