Hoops Rumors Chat With Luke Adams: 2/16/2017

Luke Adams

I think after Jabari Parker's injury that became the most logical approach for the Bucks. The Plumlee move was a nice start, since it will free up some extra cap room for the next few years.
Gasol's Tesla
2:34
Do you think people overlook the Grizzlies? Especially since they're 6-3 against the top 4 teams in the NBA with Gasol and Conley having career years.
Luke Adams
2:35
I think the Grizzlies are under-discussed, but I'm not sure whether they're underrated. Their core has looked pretty much the same for a number of years now, and it's never been quite enough in the postseason. If Chandler Parsons looked like Peak Chandler Parsons, maybe he'd be the guy that could help push them over the hump, but given all his injury issues, I don't think they can count on that.

What do you think Andrew boguts worth...at one point it was believed dallas could get a 1st rounder for him..is that still the same ?
Luke Adams
2:36
If the Mavs can get a first-rounder for him, well done. I'm skeptical, though maybe if they threw in some cash and a second-round pick like the Blazers did in the Plumlee deal, it could work.

2:37
Butler to Celtics makes sense, why is Ainge not including nets 17 pick?
Luke Adams
2:39
I'm not sure Chicago is interested in trading Butler at this point. I could see this becoming a more realistic scenario leading up to the draft though.

Chances the Sixers trade Okafor before the deadline? What type of return can the fan base expect?
Luke Adams
2:41
The rumored deal with the Pelicans (a 2018 first-rounder plus Alexis Ajinca) is the floor, I think. It sounded like New Orleans was willing to do that deal and Philadelphia wasn't (especially if the 2018 pick was protected). I think there's a very good chance that at least one of Okafor and Noel will be moved, with Okafor maybe being the 60/40 favorite for now.
LeBron
2:42
Who should I get first? Backup PG or decend PF/C?
Luke Adams
2:43
In the short term, with Kevin Love out, a big man would help, but maybe just someone on a 10-day deal. For the rest of the season and in the playoffs, I think a backup PG would be more useful, since most of Cleveland's strongest lineups feature LeBron at the 4.
Matt
2:45
Chances Gar Forman and Fred Hoiberg are not employed with Bulls in 4 months..?
Luke Adams
2:47
If it were up to most Bulls fans that I hear from, I'd say something close to 100%, but the ownership group in Chicago seems to value the continuity. I'd actually be surprised if the Bulls made a change this summer, despite the strong case you could make that they should.
Ron
2:48
Would it make sense for the 76ers to go after Jimmy Butler? Maybe in the offseason?
Luke Adams
2:49
They could probably put together a pretty solid package, though if they're going after an All-Star type player who may not be available, I think I'd rather see them look into C.J. McCollum.

2:49
The Wizards? In that blowout of okc, the starters including twisted ankle wall, had to come back to reinforce a near 30 point lead. Can they win a playoff series without bench reinforcement, and who might that be?
Luke Adams
2:51
I think they can win a series with the current roster, especially if they hang onto a top-three seed -- the 6-8 seeds in the East don't look particularly strong. If they want to have a chance at a deeper run though, I think they'll need to add a piece or two to that bench. On the site earlier today, I pointed to last year's trade for Markieff Morris as a decent blueprint for the sort of deal they could try again.

Is Harrison Barnes the future of Dallas or a false prophet
Luke Adams
2:52
I like Barnes, but I'm not sure you can be a championship-caliber team if he's your first- or second-best player. Would be great for the Mavs if they could get lucky in the lottery and finally grab the PG of the future that they've been after for so long.

2:53
Should the pacers trade Paul George?
Luke Adams
2:54
Only if they get a clear indication that he doesn't want to be in Indiana long term. Even in that scenario, there'd be no rush to do something right away.
Yi Jianlian
2:54
What do you think Masai should do with JV? Let him get abused by Casey or ship him off?
Luke Adams
2:56
I think if the Raptors intend to re-sign Lowry and Ibaka, JV will be one of the guys who becomes expendable this summer (Carroll and Joseph would be in that boat too). Having said that, offense-first big men without an outside shot don't exactly have a ton of trade value around the league right now, which would make it tricky for Toronto to get a decent return.
ATX Laker
2:56
Can the Lakers shed some salary (vets) at the deadline and get any value in return?
Luke Adams
2:57
They should be able to get a future first-rounder for Lou Williams, but the other veteran guys on more expensive, longer-term deals (Deng, Mozgov) don't have any real value and probably aren't going anywhere.
Suns fan
2:58
What are the chances the Suns move Brandon Knight and/or PJ Tucker?
Luke Adams
2:59
Wouldn't be surprised at all to see either of them on the move. The Suns apparently want to package a few of their assets for a star, but there just don't seem to be many out there right now, so I think they'll ultimately settle for selling off a veteran or two. I'll say there's a better than 50/50 chance that at least one of Tucker and Knight gets dealt.
3:00
Got time for a couple more.

Does Ballmer give Doc Rivers the axe only when/if Chris Paul leaves the Clippers in FA? Doc emits security in his control of Basketball Ops, but he's done an extremely poor job in my estimation of pushing the needle for the ballclub. He hasn't groomed a successor for Jamal Crawford, he's made questionable to the least decisions to extend players like his son and Wes Johnson, and the bench mob is underwhelming after the 6th & 7th man. It seems as if this team peaked when they were up 3-1 on the Rockets in the WCS a few years back.
Luke Adams
3:02
I agree that Doc has been a better coach than an executive. Depth has long been an issue for the Clippers. Still, there are no indications that Ballmer is unhappy with Doc. If CP3 were to leave, maybe that stance changes (it would certainly change a lot of things for the Clippers). But I think that's a long shot right now.

What do the hawks do. Lou Williams home coming.
Luke Adams
3:04
The Hawks wouldn't be a bad fit for Williams -- they could use another perimeter scorer, and they have a couple extra future first-round picks to play with. They might want someone with a little more size though, for defensive purposes.
That's all the time I have for today, guys. We'll do another one of these early next week before the deadline. Thanks for all your questions!
