Hoops Rumors Chat With Luke Adams: 2/22/2017

Hey everyone. Starting a bit later than I'd hoped today, but I'll get underway in a few minutes after tying up some loose ends from the Bogdanovic trade. Get those questions in!
3:34
Gonna try to keep my attention focused exclusively on this chat window until 4:30 CT, so hopefully teams can kindly hold off any making any more deals until then.

good afternoon! do you see the cavs doing anything tomorrow? any truth to the shumpert rumors. I don't want to trade him since he's been having his best season this year. what are the chances the cavs sign larry sanders?
Luke Adams
3:36
For a guy like Shumpert, I think the Cavs would only move him if they get someone they really like in return. For instance, if the Rockets were willing to give up Beverley, that's something that could gain traction. But I don't think Houston is willing to get there, and the Cavs don't have to settle. I wouldn't be surprised if they end up just standing pat and then considering free agents. Sanders is definitely one possibility, depending on how his workout goes.

Is it a stretch to think we could get a 1st rounder each for Taj and Nikolai?
Luke Adams
3:37
It depends what you're taking back in return. Outside of the Cousins trade, most deals involving first-round picks in recent weeks have involved other pieces, often with the team getting the first-rounder taking on a contract to even things out (ie. Nuggets with Mo Williams, Nets today with Andrew Nicholson, etc.). I certainly wouldn't be shocked if the Bulls got a first-rounder in a deal for either Taj or Mirotic.

Who are the Pacers looking at please tell me Wilson Chandler PJ Tucker names like that
Luke Adams
3:39
Sam Amick's report from this afternoon had some names that were maybe a little less exciting (Arron Afflalo, Allen Crabbe, Ed Davis). But if the Pacers are willing to give up their 2017 first-rounder, I think they should be able to do a little better than that.

The reported rumor that the Suns offered B Knight, TJ Warren, A Len and a first round pick were much better than what the Kings received for Cousins. WTF?
Luke Adams
3:41
I think fans for a lot of teams saw that Cousins package and thought "my team easily could've topped that." In many cases, they might've been right, but it seems like Vivek Ranadive was only willing to sign off on the deal because of his love for Buddy Hield, and the rest of the Kings' front office wanted to get it done before he changed his mind.

Luke what are you hearing about Lillard? Seeing this crazy tweet that Port would deal him for Jabari and picks? (Maybe toss in delly)
Luke Adams
3:43
After writing last week that "Cousins isn't going anywhere," I'm going to be hesitant for a while to make any declarations like that about anyone else. But I will say I'd be very, very surprised to see Lillard moved anytime soon. It doesn't sound to me like Portland is interested in anything like that at this point.
I still think it might make sense for them to consider moving one of Lillard or McCollum down the road, but I don't think they're ready yet.

Have you heard any more rumors of the Wizards trading for more players or will Bogdanovic be the last trade for them?
Luke Adams
3:44
They've traded their 2017 pick now, and I suspect they'll want to hang onto Kelly Oubre and their future first-rounders. So I think they're probably done, unless they do something really minor (like acquiring a 9th or 10th man).

Why would the Pacers keep PG if a fair offer is on the table. The team is a wreck. The style of play really shows the weakness of the roster and the are going nowhere soon with him and the rest of the gang. Blow it up...right?
Luke Adams
3:47
This is one of many Paul George questions I'm getting. My best guess is that the Pacers will hang onto him for now, but obviously it depends what's on the table. If the Celtics offer, say, the Nets' 2017 first-round pick and two of Smart/Bradley/Crowder/Brown, I think Larry Bird should think long and hard about that. Indiana isn't just a piece away at the moment, and it could really backfire if they trade picks for mediocre pieces and PG eventually leaves anyway.

Why isn't interest higher for Michael Beasley? He's dirt cheap, an expiring, shooting the lights out, and can play either forward position. He's got no place on the Bucks after this season since they're more likely to re-sign Tony Snell. Would the Thunder trade a first for Beasley and Teletovic?
Luke Adams
3:49
I do think Beasley has some value, and just because his name hasn't been mentioned in any trade rumors recently doesn't mean there's no interest. I think pairing him with Teletovic might diminish his value a little though -- Mirza hasn't looked all that great this year and his contract isn't cheap.

Are you hearing any serious inquiries for Nerlens Noel?
Luke Adams
3:50
It seemed earlier in the year like Noel was a lock to be moved, but the Sixers really seem to have shifted their focus to Okafor lately. Assuming they move at least one of the two this week, I'd say it's probably 75-25 in favor of Okafor.

Odds of another Raptors deal before the deadline? Seems like they have the pieces to make a somewhat significant addition...
Luke Adams
3:52
I think they'd be a nice fit for P.J. Tucker. Decent shooter and defender who isn't expensive, won't tie up their cap this year, and probably could be had at a reasonable price -- maybe Sullinger's expiring deal plus a future pick?

3:52
Is Sacramento done making moves? They still have pieces they need to move and acquire if they want to start building.
Luke Adams
3:54
Apparently, Vlade has told Darren Collison he won't be moved, which is very odd to me. Collison is exactly the sort of solid veteran who the Kings should be selling off this week for younger players or picks, especially if they want to make sure they keep their top-10 protected 2017 pick. Of course, as pretty much everyone joked when that news broke: If Vlade told Collison he won't be traded, then maybe we should assume he's as good as gone.

3:54
What do you think the deal is with Deron Williams and Andrew Bogut in Dallas?
Luke Adams
3:56
Bogut looks more likely to be moved than D-Will. I think the Mavs would like to keep Williams around beyond this season if they get a chance, whereas Bogut doesn't look like he's part of the future plans. Both of those guys are in that group of players where maaaaybe you could get a first-rounder for either of them, but you might have to take a multiyear contract back to get the pick.

Are the Pels done or will they get AD and Boogie a shooter to try to make a run this year.
Luke Adams
3:59
They're going to need to do something to address all the minutes they're missing in the backcourt after trading Hield, Tyreke, and Galloway. Maybe that means making another trade, but if they don't want to give up any more assets, they're probably looking at a current free agent or buyout candidates.

Thanks for bringing these chats back! My question is what are your thoughts on the Lakers hiring Pelinka to be the GM? Not a move you see too often.
Luke Adams
4:01
It's a bit of a rarity, but it's not unprecedented -- Warriors GM Bob Myers was a player agent before making the move to a front office, for instance. Pelinka has been around the game for a long time, knows how NBA transactions work, and has a ton of connections around the league. Most people who know him are pretty optimistic about how he'll do, though it's worth noting that Magic will still have the final say on all the roster and draft decisions.
Mike
4:01
I can't believe I'm asking this but can the Lakers get a 1st for Nick Young? If not, do they keep him or take the best offer they get while his value is at it's peak?
Luke Adams
4:03
Back in the fall, it seemed like the Lakers would have to give up a pick if they wanted to move Young, so it's a little crazy that we're seriously wondering if he could be worth a 1st now. I doubt any teams would do that, but the Lakers should be able to get a 2nd for him at least, and I think they should pull the trigger.
Brett T
4:03
What about Tyus Jones? Do you think anybody takes a chance on him as their backup PG of the future?
Luke Adams
4:04
I don't think Minnesota is actively shopping him, but if they get an offer they like, they'd consider it. But if they do find a taker for Rubio and don't get a long-term PG in return, they're probably looking to Jones as a key long-term backup behind Dunn.

If the 76ers finish with a better record than the Kings and that pick falls 1-10, doesn't Philly get that pick? It's top 10 protected from Chicago, not Philly.
Luke Adams
4:05
Sixers would have rights to swap in that scenario, but Sacramento would still get a pick -- it would just be the lower of the two.
Jonathan
4:05
Now that Matt Barnes has cleared waivers, do you think the Warriors should consider picking him up to provide some depth in the playoffs (and maybe draw some technicals away from Draymond)?
Luke Adams
4:07
I do think if the Warriors add anyone to their roster in the coming days, it'll probably be a veteran free agent like that, who was waived by another team and will come cheap. But I'm not sure if Barnes is the guy -- the Warriors are already the heavy favorites to come out of the West and win the title, so adding someone like Barnes (who is dealing with off-court problems again this season) seems like an unnecessary risk.

Is there one move a team not named Cleveland or Golden State could make that could make them serious contenders?
