Luke Adams
12:46
Welcome to today's live chat! I may have to duck in and out if we get some breaking news this afternoon, but I intend to get to as many questions as I can over the next hour or two. Send 'em in!

Do you think Carmelo is gonna end up with the Rockets?
Luke Adams
12:49
I think it'd be very tough for the Rockets to do a trade for Carmelo without including Ryan Anderson, and there's no indication yet that the Knicks would be willing to take that sort of contract back. If that changes, the Rockets look like the best match, but it seems to be a stalemate for now.

What are you hearing on Miami's front after going with "Plan B" to resign Waiters and possibly James Johnson. Who are some outside names they are looking at?
Luke Adams
12:51
Rudy Gay is one name that keeps popping up, but it remains to be seen how much cap flexibility they'll have if they re-sign Johnson. I don't think it'd be a great idea for the Heat to give up Ellington to sign a second- or third-tier free agent. Ellington has a pretty reasonable deal for the shooting he provides.

Hey Luke. Is there any news concerning the Lakers?  Who are some players they might sign to one-year contract this year?
Luke Adams
12:52
They reportedly offered Waiters $17MM for one year. I expect they're still looking at other guards (Rondo, Rose, etc.). Cap space is rapidly disappearing around the league and the Lakers won't be a contender in 2017/18 so I think it probably makes sense for them to wait out the market and see who's willing to accept a one-year deal a few days from now.

Carrol and Nogueira to Brooklyn for a 2018 2nd round pick. Fair deal?
Luke Adams
12:52
Think it'll take more than that to move Carroll's contract.

When do you think Nerlens Noel resign with Dallas?
Luke Adams
12:53
Doesn't seem like the Mavs are in any rush. They'll wait for Noel to get an offer sheet. If he doesn't get one he likes, I expect he'll circle back to the Mavs and deal with them directly. Some of these RFA situations could drag out a little.

Where do you think Jamychal green will land?
Luke Adams
12:55
I know his agent said the Grizzlies seemed to be going in another direction, but that sounded like the sort of posturing that sometimes happens in these situations. It'd be odd to me if the Grizzlies don't bring him back, especially if he doesn't get a huge offer sheet. Letting go of Randolph and possibly Allen signals they're ready to get a little younger and gives them some cap flexibility -- why not bring back Green?

What do you think about this clippers this offseaon, and how do you think they'll do during the season?
Luke Adams
12:57
They look a bit better than I thought they would, but I'm not sold on the Gallinari/Blake/Jordan frontcourt. The way the NBA is played these days, it seems like they'll need to have Gallo at the 4 and Blake at the 5 against a lot of teams. Of course, that's assuming Gallo stays healthy. As it stands, I think they'll be in the running for the playoffs, but likely in the 6-8 range.

Hey Luke! Any indication that Washington will not match the Nets' Otto Porter sheet? If they do match, any players you're hearing as Plan B options for the Nets?
Luke Adams
12:59
No indication yet that they're considering letting him walk. The reports of Porter agreeing to the Nets' offer and the Wizards' plan to match came within about 30 minutes of one another and we haven't really heard anything since then. There have been situations in the past like this where the player's agent just circles back to the player's original team (ie. the Wizards) and deals with them directly at this point, rather than going through the offer sheet process when they already know the outcome. We'll see if that happens here.

Can the Knicks unload lee, Noah and Melo for expiring contracts ?
Luke Adams
1:00
Noah, no. Melo, almost definitely not. Lee would be their best chance.

Are you surprised the t-wolves didn't sign a stretch 4 their shooting issues?
Luke Adams
1:01
A little. The deal that Patterson got from OKC looks like something the Wolves should've been all over. I like that one a lot better than the Gibson deal.

I noticed that Eddie Scarito was writing for you guys this weekend. Please say he's back?!
Luke Adams

Only temporarily to help us out with the free agency frenzy, unfortunately.

Not hearing much about backup Centers like Dewayne Dedmon, Willie Reed or Jordan Hill.
Luke Adams
1:03
The lack of chatter about Hill doesn't surprise me, given how little he played last year. But I did think we'd hear more about Dedmon and Reed by now. I bet contending teams with small exceptions left will push hard for those guys.

What's happening with Pistons and KCP's contract situation? They have plethora of big men and now more guards after Galloway signing
Luke Adams
1:04
He's another player who seems to be adversely affected by the slow RFA market. I wonder if his reps will wait out the Nets' Otto Porter situation and see if they can get an offer from Brooklyn on KCP after the Wizards match for Porter.

Have Grizz had any discussion at all with Celtics about Marc Gasol?
Luke Adams
1:06
The Chris Mannix report that inspired those Celtics/Gasol rumors just said that he'd heard from a couple execs that Gasol was someone to keep an eye on. No indication at all for now that the Grizzlies are thinking of moving him to Boston or anyone else. If Memphis is out of the playoff picture in the West by the trade deadline, that could very well change.

Why does thibs keep trying the reacquire his old players? He does realize that he never went to the NBA finals with anyone of them right?
Luke Adams
1:06
To be fair, Butler wasn't nearly this good in his first go-round under Thibs, and those Bulls also didn't have a player like Towns.

Are the Jazz still a playoff team without Hayward?
Luke Adams
1:07
We'll see what they do with their leftover cap room. I think they probably are, but it's definitely not a lock in a Western Conference that looks tougher than ever.

What is the latest on the Celtics moving players.
Luke Adams
1:08
No concrete updates today. They'll probably take their time -- no rush to make Hayward's deal official.

Thoughts on Dunn/Lavine backcourt long term? Is that their expectation for next year and long term?
Luke Adams
1:10
I'm still somewhat high on Dunn -- if you'd asked me a year ago, he would've been my prediction for Rookie of the Year, and a bad first year wasn't enough to dampen my enthusiasm. He still has plenty of time to develop. LaVine is trickier. He's due up for a new contract soon and he's coming off a major injury. I sort of feel like his ideal role would be as a super-scoring sixth man rather than as a starting shooting guard.

Why would the Celtics trade Jae Crowder to the Jazz for nothing when they can get much better value (like a first round pick) from another team? What would the Jazz have to send back? Isn't the whole situation awkward for both sides?
Luke Adams
1:12
That situation is fascinating. You could make the case that the Celtics have no leverage since they've already committed to Hayward and no one wants to help them clear room. But I'm not convinced that means they have to give someone away for nothing. Why would a team like, say, the Nuggets rather let the division-rival Jazz get Crowder for nothing than offer up a modest package for someone like Marcus Smart (who should be able to fit in their remaining cap room)? Will be very interesting to see what happens there.

Any news on moves by the Mavericks? Also, is Crowder really the most likely piece to go to Utah?
