To be clear, the Sixers weren't fined because the NBA is trying to force them to play Embiid -- they were fined because they weren't forthcoming about his status and essentially suggested with their comments that they didn't consider the regular season to be that important. But the NBA's investigation did find that Embiid has a legitimate knee condition and that his ongoing absence is legitimate.

Depth = a top 3 seed?

I'm not sure about top three, but I like this Warriors team a lot more than last year's and if Curry and Draymond stay healthy, I view it as a top-six team in the West for sure.

There’s some rumors going around regarding Giannis being traded to the Rockets.  Is that some internet geeks having too much fun, or is there any truth and merit to these rumors?

A quick Twitter search suggests that these "rumors" are more about people connecting two pieces of speculation:

  1. If the Bucks disappoint again, maybe Giannis will want to be traded.
  2. The Rockets want to trade for a star.

I do expect the Rockets to be in on any star that becomes available on the trade market, but it's premature to link them directly to Giannis at this point. I can't see the Bucks moving him unless he asks for it, and we're not there yet (and may never get there!)

Memphis looks so uncoordinated to start the year. When things click they look like the old team, when things don't, they look like last season on repeat. What can they do to fix it?

I was a little surprised at how much enthusiasm there was for the Grizzlies entering this season. I know they had a couple great years before last season and in theory could get back to that level, but this really isn't the same team they had then -- guys like Dillon Brooks and Steven Adams played huge roles! They don't really have that sort of lockdown wing defender and do-all-the-little-things center on the current roster.

Not sure there's a quick fix. They'll need to be patient with Edey's development and keep their eye out for a trade for a three-and-D wing (they were interested in guys like Bridges and Anunoby). Getting healthier will help too.

this being his 4th year, its easy to forget Kuminga is only 22.He played great that 1st game of the Pelicans back to back. But, given warriors aging stars timeline, would you trade trade him for Butler or similar?
Luke Adams

I wouldn't trade him for a player like that. Butler is great, but you can't count on him to be healthy in the playoffs and he's 35. Who knows how much longer you can count on him to produce at his current level. If Kuminga gets traded, it should be for a younger star (if they'd had to put him in the package for Markkanen, for instance, that would have made more sense to me).

I know it's early, but why the drop off in the MIN defense? Is it as simple as just rebounding the ball? KAT was no elite defender, same as Randle, but the but the rebounding does stand out early. Anything else you've seen?

Towns wasn't an elite defender, but he did OK in Minnesota's system and matched up nicely with certain opponents. And, as you point out, he was a very good rebounder.

I think the Wolves will be fine, based on their personnel -- they're still figuring out where everyone is on the court after the roster shake-up. The sample size is small. If they're still a middle-of-the-pack defense after 30 or 40 games, it'd be a cause for concern, but I'm not worried yet.
Thanks for all the questions this week, guys! We'll be doing this every Thursday at 2 pm CT, so I'll see you again next week. Have a great weekend!
