Luke Adams
12:00
Thanks for all your early questions, guys. Let's dive in...
Eric from LA
12:01
Which do you think is more likely Joe Mazzula for COY for Jayson Tatum for MVP?
Luke Adams
12:02
I'll take Mazzulla -- the narrative will be in his favor if the Celtics have the NBA's best record. A Tatum MVP award isn't entirely out of the question, but I expect there will be a handful of guys who have better statistical seasons.

What could Detroit get for Bogdanovic
Luke Adams
12:04
I know the Jazz didn't get a first-round pick for Bogdanovic, but I expect the Pistons could if they were willing to take back an unwanted contract (Off the top of my head, something like Dallas giving up Bertans and a first-rounder for Bogdanovic is in the right neighborhood).

Is there any chance the Bulls trade Vuc and Demar at the deadline?  It would seem like a very sudden about-face, but it's hard to see how this team takes the next step, especially with all the Lonzo uncertainty, and especially given that they don't have their own 23 or 25 firsts.  Extending those guys seems risky given their ages, and this might be the best chance to get good trade value for them.
Luke Adams
12:07
I see the case for it, but I also wonder how much value they could actually get in return for those guys. Vucevic isn't going to bring back anywhere near what they gave up for him a couple years ago, and DeRozan is 33 -- you're not getting a Donovan Mitchell-esque haul for him either. I expect the Bulls to stay the course and continue to hold out hope that Ball can get healthy and be the missing piece.
Rory Rightfoot
12:08
Outside of Lonzo getting healthy, should the Bulls be looking for another 3 pt shooter? Zach can't do it all. Who could be available to them?
Luke Adams
12:10
Terrence Ross and old friend Doug McDermott are among the vet shooters who should be available, and a package built around Coby White could probably get either one. Not sure how much they'd move the needle for the Bulls though.

Could Jae’Sean Tate be a trade piece this season for Houston? He’s been good for them in the past and just signed an extension, but with KJ Martin improving, Tate seems like a player many teams would like to have.
Luke Adams
12:12
It's worth gauging his value, certainly -- the ankle injury is a problem, since he'll need to actually be on the court to warrant serious trade interest. His contract is quite team-friendly (declining slightly in the second year, with a third-year team option), so there will be opportunities down the road to consider putting him on the market if they hang onto him this season.

Cavs followed a superb hot streak with a very irritating losing streak. Which one is more accurate to their true potential?
Luke Adams
12:15
I'm a Cavs believer and not overly concerned about the losing streak -- three of those were West Coast games against solid opponents (I'm also a Kings believer) and the fourth came without Donovan Mitchell and Jarrett Allen available. And all four were tight games. They'll be OK.

Hi, Why do the Lakers worry so much about draft picks that are 5 and 7 years away when they are a destination franchise for FA and are always in win now mode so most years your pick will be in the later half of the round where its a crapshoot if they even stick in the nba?  And if you are trading those picks you have years to make better decisions leading up to that?
Luke Adams
12:18
The idea that free agents will always want to join the Lakers and they'll be fine even if they mess up a few personnel decisions is... a risky position to take. Including this season, the Lakers have been a sub-.500 team in eight of the last 10 years. If you're careless with those draft picks and keep making mistakes, you risk turning the franchise into the West Coast Knicks (I apologize for the perhaps unwarranted shot at the Knicks, but they're an example of a big-market team that certainly hasn't been guaranteed anything for a while).

How many picks do the knicks need to trade along with randle, grimes, and salary filler to get SGA?
Luke Adams
12:21
It'd probably take at least three unprotected Knicks picks to get Sam Presti's attention, and even then, I don't think SGA's going anywhere. It's not as if the Thunder plan on tanking for the next five years -- I wouldn't be shocked if they're a legitimate playoff contender as soon as next season.

12:21
Any expectations for the hornets this year or is this just a rebuild year?🏀.
Luke Adams
12:23
I can see them having a season like last year's Trail Blazers, who hoped to be a playoff team but pivoted to tanking and were the NBA's worst team after the All-Star break. They're digging themselves such an early hole that it just makes way more sense to take their shot at Wembanyama than to try to get the No. 10 seed.

So, Kerr is going to prioritize giving Minutes to JaMychal Green at the Backup 5 spot over James WIseman?  Makes no sense.  JaMychal won't even be on the team next year.  And next year, Kerr will sign another JaMychel Green type and play him ahead of Wiseman too?  Like he did last year with Nemanja Bjelica.  The whole reason Kuminga and Wiseman were drafted was so that the Team would have a more diversified Offense, get some Shots at the Rim, and not rely so much on the 3-Point shot.  Well, scrap that Idea I gues ......  Also, Small Ball lineups won't work as well with our Aging Core of HOFers.
Luke Adams
12:25
It's not like Wiseman was benched to open the season -- he got a chance to play regular minutes and the team was getting torched defensively when he was on the floor. The Western Conference is too good for the Warriors to keep him running him out there in the hopes he'll figure it out if it's costing them wins. Giving him the chance to play regularly and build some confidence in the G League seems like the right call to me.

12:26
In reference to Greg's question, the Lakers might be gun-shy given that the last time the tried to overbuild a team revolving around aging Kobe and injury-prone stars, they ended up playing the lottery with mixed results for a while until they managed to attract stars again.

Am I getting fired before the all star break?
Luke Adams
12:27
I think things would have to get much worse than they are right now. I don't get the sense your seat is all that hot quite yet.

What is the latest with Kyrie Irving?  He has completed his 5 game  suspension…
Luke Adams
12:29
That suspension was meant to cover "at least" five games, and it seems like it'll extend at least through the team's current West Coast trip, which wraps up Thursday in Portland. The Nets' next home game is Sunday -- I expect we'll find out later this week whether or not Kyrie will be back for that one.

Grayson Allen from MIL to PHX for Jae Crowder... Who says no?
Luke Adams
12:32
It's an interesting hypothetical. Allen is a solid player who is younger than Crowder and is on a pretty team-friendly multiyear contract. I'm not sure the Suns could expect a better return if they want a win-now piece. It also makes some sense for the Bucks if they're worried about the price of their roster going forward and want to get off Allen's 2023/24 money, but they'd have to be pretty confident that Crowder improves their titles chances this season.

Is there even the slightest of noise connecting the Sixers & Carmelo? They really do need some offense off the bench, and there don't seem to be better options out there than Anthony.
Luke Adams
12:35
There has barely been any Carmelo-related chatter in recent months, with the exception of the recent report about the Taiwanese team eyeing him. It's a little surprising to me, since I didn't see any signs last year that has game had dropped off significantly from where it's been for the last few seasons.
Theoretically, Philadelphia makes sense if they don't mind increasing their tax bill -- they already have an open spot on their 15-man roster.

Does Bane still have a shot at an All-Star game, despite the injury? would be a shame if that threw off his borderline MIP season
Luke Adams
12:37
If he's back in 2-3 weeks, picks up where he left off, and the Grizzlies are a top-four or top-five team in the West in the first half, he should have a pretty good case. Most All-Stars miss at least a handful of games.
Eric from MN
12:37
Pat Bev coming back to MN for D'Lo, who says no?
Luke Adams
12:39
The problem with this deal or any like it is that there's no simple way for the Lakers to bring back that sort of salary without including Westbrook. To match D-Lo's salary using Beverley, they'd have to add Lonnie Walker, Kendrick Nunn, and at least one more player. Not sure that works for either team.
Ben Simmons
12:39
What are your rest of season projections for me? Will I still be a Net after the deadline?
Luke Adams
12:42
The Nets might be stuck with you for this season. If you keep playing like you have been, it doesn't make sense to sell so low. If you turn things around, there will be no reason to trade you. I still think you can provide value with your defense and play-making, but you're going to have to show something on offense.
Rambis
12:42
Who is going to be the most coveted (realistic) trade target at the deadline?
Luke Adams
12:45
I could see guys like Myles Turner, Jakob Poeltl, and P.J. Washington being highly sought after. Those aren't really All-Star caliber players though, and history tells us it's probably just a matter of time until a star becomes available. Hard to say quite yet who that'll be, but it definitely won't shock me if we get another cycle of Kevin Durant and/or Anthony Davis trade rumors before the deadline.

How about a D'Angelo Russell for Kyrie Irving trade? Brooklyn needs to move on from Irving and the Wolves after going all in with Gobert and off to a struggling start may be one of the few teams willing to take him on
