Do you think the smoke around Donovan Mitchell being a possible trade candidate is genuine? Or is it just Knicks making noise in hope?

There are a few factors in play there:
  1. Cleveland isn't a big, favorable market, so there will always be an assumption that star players may not want to stay there long-term.
  2. That's especially true if the team isn't winning, and Cleveland is off to a slow start this season.
  3. Mitchell could've signed an extension prior to the season but didn't.

With that in mind, there's no indication at this point that Mitchell wants to leave Cleveland, the Cavs are a good team who will be fine after an up-and-down start, and Mitchell didn't sign an extension in large part because waiting another year will get him more years and dollars. I think it's all speculation at this point, but those are the reasons why he's a popular topic of speculation.

Watching the Rockets in the opening 3 it’s pretty clear the younger guys in Green Sengun and Smith Jr are not ready to be “the guy” on a competitive team. With the clear impatience from ownership this off season. Is it likely they try to move some of the many assets(9 picks/swaps, and 4 high ceiling players under 22) to try and get an outright star sooner rather than later?

After making such significant changes to the roster over the summer, I expect the Rockets will roll with this group for a little while and see what they have. They're not one star away from being a title contender so making that sort of move would be short-sighted, in my opinion -- I'd rather see them be more patient with the young guys.

Is Jordan Hawkins earning minutes in NO regardless of Brandon Ingrahm's status?
Luke Adams
11:47
I haven't had a chance to check out last night's game vs. OKC yet, but now I'm very curious to see how Hawkins looked in that one, since his line (4-of-19 shooting, plus-17, 37 minutes) is kinda wild. It does seem like he'll have a chance to keep playing regularly at least until the Pelicans get more depth (Murphy, Marshall, Alvarado, etc.) back.

Aside from Korkmaz, who do you think is the next "superstar" to request a trade?
Luke Adams
11:50
I like the implication that Korkmaz is a superstar. As for who's next... a lot of the top guys that I think could become trade candidates within the next year (Towns, LaVine, DeRozan, Trae Young) don't necessarily seem like the types to force the issue. Should I just say Harden again?

When does the in season tournament start?
Luke Adams
11:51
Tomorrow! Here's the full schedule: https://pr.nba.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/46/2023/08/X-Group-Play-Sc...

While I'm generally on board with the idea of the in-season tournament, the fact that the round robin games are being played on sorta random dates for the next few weeks is gonna take some getting used to.

When should the bucks start to worry.
Luke Adams
11:52
If they still have a losing record at the 20-game mark, that might be cause for concern. But I mean... it's hard to imagine a scenario where they don't make the playoffs. And as long as they've figured things out by then, they'll be OK.

Thanks for all the questions this week, folks! We'll be back with two more live chats next week, likely on Tuesday and Thursday. Have a great weekend!
