With the warriors having 4 young talented players that will need big contracts in the future who most likely will be traded before a extension?  Wiseman, Kuminga, Moody, or PBJ?  So far its looking like Kuminga. What is your thoughts?
Dana Gauruder
11:07
My thought on that is this season and perhaps next as well will sort that out. None have firmly established themselves as long-term pieces, nor have they shown that they're busts. It's different than young players on rebuilding or mediocre teams, where they're expected to be starters and even franchise players virtually from the time they're drafted. Having several players on rookie deals buys the front office time to see what they actually have with each one of these players. In Kuminga's case, for example, he's not extension eligible under the summer of 2024. They can also make him a RFA this following summer if he doesn't sign an extension. So, I don't think the front office is even considering these questions right now.

Are the Cavs going to really compete in the east?
Dana Gauruder
11:10
Their backcourt certainly looked formidable with Garland coming back last night. I don't know how much they'll get from that bench but the starting five looks solid. The only question mark there is whether they'll seek an upgrade or different type of player than LeVert at SF. The Cavs had to trade some serious assets to get Mitchell, so that may limit what they can do before the trade deadline. Still probably a couple of pieces away from being a championship club. But I don't think anyone will be eager to face Garland-Mitchell-Mobley-Allen crew in the playoffs.

How bad is it that the Rockets seem to continue to make the exact same mistakes as last year? Turnovers, inconsistent possessions, playing too much 1-on-1. I guess it’s okay considering it gives them the best shot at VW.
Dana Gauruder
11:15
Still a very young crew trying to figure things out. The biggest thing I wonder about the Rockets -- are Green and Smith true franchise-level players? I don't know if they've got the one guy, that Doncic or Morant type player, to build around. If one of those guys emerges as the type who can carry the team night in, night out, they'll look a whole lot better. But yes, I think they'll be major players for the top pick again.

It seems obvious watching The Warriors that something is not right on defense. Klay Thompson is hurting them on offense right now. At what point do you put Jordan Poole in the starting lineup?
Dana Gauruder
11:18
I can't see Kerr doing that to a guy who's won four championships. With Poole locked up contractually for several seasons, they don't need to appease him. Poole is averaging around 30 minutes a game, so he's basically a sixth starter anyway.

Do the Kings really have any chance at winning? They've played in close games, but every time they seem to lapse terribly in one way or another.
Dana Gauruder
11:23
Still too early to know if the changes they've made will translate into a play-in spot. They need Fox to be healthy, first and foremost. They're not going anywhere without him in the lineup. Losing to the Heat on the road isn't anything to be concerned about. Once the rotation settles in, I see the Kings being a .500 team, maybe slightly better. That should be enough to get them in the top 10 in the conference.

I read that Mexico City has a GLeague franchise?  And Jahlil Okafor is on the Roster?  How does that work, Income Tax-wise?  Wouldn't most GLeague players want to be on that Roster if Income Taxes are at the Mexico rate instead of the USA Rate?
Dana Gauruder
11:28
Mexico City does have a G League franchise. They are not affiliated with a particular NBA team. It began last season but didn't home games due to COVID concerns. Okafor is on the roster, looking to catch the attention of an NBA franchise, as most G League players are. As for the tax implications, I am not sure how that all works.
Jason Tatum
11:29
With all my public statements on how the Celtics have not really told us about why our coach was suspended do you think I will follow Ime to the Nets?
Dana Gauruder
11:30
Why would Tatum want to step into that hornet's nest of a franchise instead of playing on a team favored to win the NBA championship? I have never heard of an NBA superstar demanding a trade so he can play for a particular coach.

So Kyrie is gonna get out of this with no real discipline, isn't he?
Dana Gauruder
11:33
Adam Silver announced this morning that he'll meet with Irving soon. We'll know more after that.

Russel Westbrook has accepted a bench role for the Lakers, but he doesn’t look like he changed much. Lakers still have to be looking for a trade, right?
Dana Gauruder
11:34
Sure. I don't think the Lakers really want to deal with the situation all year. Question is whether acquiring Turner/Hield or some other package from another team really makes them a true contender in the West. If it doesn't, having that $47 mill off their books might be a better outcome in the long run.

Are the Celtics going to trade for a big man?  Waiting for Robert Williams seems risky.  Pritchard has fallen out of the rotation and could bring something back.
Dana Gauruder
11:37
I do think the Celtics will do something too protect themselves in case Williams' knee issues linger throughout the season. We've seen all too often that teams take a cautious approach and then when the player finally comes back, they still have setbacks. I don't think they'll want to bank on Williams being able to play 30 minutes consistently in the postseason.

Hornets play in? Or no playoffs @ all?
Dana Gauruder
11:42
They've done OK with LaMelo so far. I didn't think I'd see Dennis Smith Jr. getting major minutes anywhere again but there he is. I just think as the trade deadline approaches, they'll be sellers rather than buyers. The Bridges/Bouknight issues have really hurt that franchise. Let's hope LaMelo comes back soon from the ankle sprain because he's one of the more exciting players to watch in the league. But I don't think this roster is good enough to make the play-in, unless some tother teams really go into tank mode.

Are my Jazz too good?!  How do I get back into the Wembanyama sweepstakes?
Dana Gauruder
11:46
They've surprised a lot of people -- apparently, Donovan Mitchell isn't one of them -- with their early successes. Hardy has done a nice job getting them ready each game. I don't think their success is sustainable in the long run -- they'll be in sell mode regarding their vets. Their early victories are making it a little harder to justify at this time but it's certainly not hurting the trade value of guys like Clarkson and Beasley.
Rockets
11:47
Think the nets can turn it around or should the rockets be excited for 2 lottery picks ?
Dana Gauruder
11:51
I'm sure the Rockets front office is quietly enjoying the dysfunction in Brooklyn and rooting for it to continue. With a wild card like Kyrie, it could certainly fall apart. Simmons is still scraping off the rust and opponents will continue to sag off him. It probably won't be a high lottery pick but it'll be a much higher pick than Houston could have hoped for when the Harden blockbuster was made.

Does Chicago continue to start pat williams over javonte green
Dana Gauruder
11:54
It's certainly been a struggling for Williams, though you can give him a mulligan for last season when he was injured. Chicago invested a high lottery pick on Williams, so the staff and front office will give him more time to find a flow. Donovan has hinted at some lineup changes and Williams would be the logical candidate. Perhaps he'll be a better fit for the second unit and it will take some pressure off him.
Troy Weaver
11:54
can I still get anything of value for Killian Hayes? Seems like he’d be a nice fit for the Sours with the recent Primo release and lack of other PG options
Dana Gauruder
11:58
I'd doubt that Hayes has a whole lot of value at the moment. If the Pistons trade him, they'd be riding Cory Joseph as their second-unit option at the point. Weaver hasn't shown any hesitation in making a move he feels would help the franchise in the long run. I guess it comes down what does the Spurs' front office think of Hayes? But I don't think they'd give up much to acquire him.

Are my wizards going to trade for a point guard to back up Morris while Delon Wright is out. Johnny Davis looks like he doesn’t belong in the NBA so right now Beal is basically the backup PG
Dana Gauruder
12:00
That Johnny Davis pick isn't looking too good right now. I wouldn't be surprised if they bring in a vet free agent as a stopgap because it appears Wright will be out for at least another month.
