Yeah, I could see those rules being tweaked, though I wonder if the NBA will be sort of torn on the issue. On one hand, it makes sense to give smaller-market teams more tools to lock up their players before they reach free agency. On the other hand, we've already seen a major bump in veteran extensions in recent years, and they've sort of taken the juice out of free agency during the last couple summers. The NBA wants to be a year-round league and having an exciting offseason with big-name free agents potentially changing teams is part of that -- maybe certain restrictions on extensions actually make sense from that perspective.

What are the Suns waiting for on trading Jae Crowder? What do they expect to get back for him?
Luke Adams

It seems like the Suns may be counting on a Crowder trade to get a power forward and another rotation piece -- there were rumors, for instance, that they were interested in trying to pry Eric Gordon and Kenyon Martin Jr. from Houston in a three-team trade involving Crowder. If they're willing to throw in a draft pick or two, maybe that's a realistic goal. If not, they'll have to lower their expectations and settle for one solid rotation player, regardless of position.

Will the hornets trade anyone this trade deadline?🏀.

They should. This isn't their year, so the front office should be focused on the draft and on 2023/24. PJ Washington would have real value on the trade market and makes sense as a trade candidate if they're not sure about how much they want to pay him on his next contract. I could see Rozier popping up in trade rumors too. Probably doesn't make sense to move Hayward -- they'd have to attach assets to dump his deal, but he'll be an expiring contract next year.

Is Nick Nurse running Fred VanVleet into the ground? There's a 40-game sample size of him shooting poorly now (post All-Star break last season and 25 games this season). Makes you wonder about his stock as a potential free agent, because small guards with heavy workloads typically haven't aged very well (Kemba, Isaiah Thomas). CP3 being the exception, of course.

His workload is definitely a concern -- it doesn't look good for the Raptors that they haven't been able to find a reliable backup for him since Lowry left to help lessen that load. I will say that I think VanVleet's style of play has more in common with CP3's than Kemba's and IT's. He should still have value as he ages as a solid defender and a catch-and-shoot guy, even if his athleticism declines. But yeah, he'll need to break out of this prolonged shooting slump.

Show me a player I can get to replace a starter and Ill give up Wiseman. Otherwise not giving up my unicorn for some depth that wont make the playoff rotation.

The Warriors will need to be realistic about how much trade value Wiseman actually has at this point. You can't think of him as the No. 2 overall pick anymore. He still has intriguing potential, sure, but he's also a guy who isn't playing rotation minutes, will earn $12MM next season, and will be a free agent in 2024.

We are much happier with the 3 months of coverage from the Durant trade request keeping us in the news than the one week of drama had he been a FA. Bring on the veteran extensions and the summer time trade requests when rosters have the flexibility for stars to move...

A fair point -- top free agents come off the board in a matter of days at the start of July. Trade requests from stars can drag on for weeks or months and breathe life into those otherwise dead August/September months.

which coach do you see being fired first and who is on the hot seat?

Don't think anyone's in immediate danger. The Sixers and Knicks have been playing better as of late, so any Doc- and Thibs-related speculation has died down a little. The Bulls and Raptors have underachieved, but Donovan and Nurse are highly respected and well-liked by their front offices. I continue to wonder about how patient rebuilding teams like Houston and Detroit will be with their coaches who have been there a while (Silas and Casey). Maybe Dallas and Washington are also worth keeping an eye on if they continue to struggle? Mosley and Unseld are only in their second years, so it's a little early for their teams to get trigger-happy, but they're also first-time head coaches without proven track records as the top guy.

Thanks for all your questions today, everyone! Lots of good ones I couldn't get to. We'll be back later this week though -- Dana Gauruder is hosting a live chat on Thursday at 11 am CT.
