Would the Blazers ever try to move Ayton?  His attitude and recent comments probably limit his value, but with teams that need big men (Thunder, Knicks) this might be the time to get off his contract and move forward.

Don't think it's realistic at this point. The Blazers didn't need to rope the Suns into the Lillard trade -- they did it because they liked Ayton. You can debate the merits of that decision but I'm skeptical they'd give up on him after a half-season, especially if his value has declined.

Mavs have limited assets. Should they hold onto Luka and Lively and make everyone else available in order to retool for next season?
Luke Adams
10:44
That seems a little drastic. There are some good pieces on the roster. I'm not sure that they're just one player away or anything, but if they could acquire an upgrade at forward, they look like a solid, competitive playoff team.

Thoughts on the 65 game requirement for NBA end of season awards? Players are hired for an 82 game season, not half a season of games. Does it sound like a lot of players are just complaining?
Luke Adams

The stated intent of that rule was to reduce load management, but so far the outcome seems to be forcing guys who are injured to try to play through it or come back too early. Not sure that's in the best interest in the league.
10:46
I will say that the 65-game rule appears more egregious in a case like Haliburton's, where he has $40MM+ on the line depending on whether he makes an All-NBA team, than it does in a case like Embiid's (another MVP would look great on his list of career achievements but won't have any impact on the Sixers' title chances or his pay checks). But you could argue the real issue in Haliburton's case is tying super-max eligibility to awards, not instituting a minimum game requirement for awards.

What is something positive about our team as it stands entering February?
Luke Adams
10:48
You guys have looked more competitive since Brian Keefe took over, and the players seem to like the job he's doing!

1 more move before deadline or play season out?
Luke Adams
10:49
I'd bet pretty heavily on the "one more move." Especially if I could adjust the wording to "at least one more move."

Do you think the King's will make a trade? Possibly bring in Kuzma, since they tried to get him when he was a free agent.
Luke Adams
10:50
I think they'll scour the market in search of an upgrade over Harrison Barnes, but they'll probably be wary of spending too much to acquire a non-All-Star like Kuzma. They already owe a first-round pick for Kevin Huerter, who hasn't really been a major difference maker. They won't want to tie up their first-rounders for years to come by giving up more of them for someone who isn't capable of pushing them over the top.
10:51
Worth noting as well that they like Keegan Murray a LOT and believe he can be better than someone like Kuzma by the end of his rookie contract.

What is a realistic return the hornets can expect for guys like bridges, Washington, richards?  Time to tear this thing down imo.
Luke Adams
10:54
Second-round picks for Bridges and Richards. I like P.J. Washington and think his descending multiyear contract would be viewed favorably by a lot of teams, but would feel more confident projecting a first-round pick return for him if his 3PT% hadn't slipped three seasons in a row. I still think the Hornets could maybe get a protected first-rounder for him though.

I need your advice, Luke. I can’t play with this Lakers team anymore if AD is gonna be out a while. Heck, even if he DOES play a good portion of the rest of the season, I’ll still be disenchanted. And let’s be honest here: we’re not getting anyone impactful enough at the deadline to turn this dumpster-fire season around - no one wants D-Lo!! What should I do, Luke?(A) request a trade out of Lakerland (B) fake a season-ending injury and travel with Bronny and the USC men’s team (C) retire at mid-season then wait and see where Bronny lands in the June draft (D) only play in games I know we have a decent shot at winning
Luke Adams

This is pretty funny, but it's not the first time during LeBron's Lakers tenure that the team has been pretty mediocre, and he's shown no interest in leaving Los Angeles to date. I think being in L.A. as much a lifestyle choice as it is a basketball one for him at this point, so I imagine he'll do his best to play out the string this season and hope for a second-half surge like the one they made last season.

With an open case does any non Charlotte team want to really take on the off court stuff ?
Luke Adams
10:57
I wouldn't. It sounds like there are teams willing to do it, especially if the price is low enough.

Since Klay Thompson turned down a extension this summer with warriors what team may go after him this coming summer? 2 I have is Lakers and Trailblazers.
Luke Adams
10:59
Would have to be a team with real cap flexibility in order to threaten the Warriors (who will want to sign him as long as the price is reasonable enough). Fully speculating here, but maybe the Sixers? He'd spread the floor nicely alongside Embiid and Maxey.

I think I’ve played well since Mitchell R. went down … don’t I deserve the C job in NY full time? Please don’t tell me the Knicks will bring in another big and platoon us for one half each! I’m strong enough … and people like me!
Luke Adams

It sounds like the Knicks' higher priority for the rest of this season is another ball-handling guard. Will be interesting to see what happens this summer though -- you'll be a free agent. If the Knicks re-sign you, will Mitch become a trade candidate? Would he accept a smaller role? Shouldn't be an issue this season, but something to keep an eye on down the road.

Thanks for all the questions today, guys. Apologies if I didn't get to yours, but we'll be hosting at least one more pre-deadline chat early next week.
Have a great weekend!
