Luke Adams

I'm curious about this too. As erratic as he's been offensively, he has a decent history as a three-point shooter before the last season-and-a-half, and he's a really talented perimeter defender. He's also only 27 years old. Guys like that generally aren't getting paid less than $20MM per year when they reach free agency.
Pleasant surprises

Name one player and one team that have surprised you in a positive way this season? I’ll take Markelle Fultz for player and the Thunder for the team (the Magic might be my second pick)

Bol Bol has been one of my favorite stories of this season. I didn't think he'd stay healthy enough or get enough playing time to deliver on his potential, so it's been fun seeing him get a chance to play this season and making the most of it. I'm with you on the Thunder -- I wouldn't have projected them to win 28 games all season, let alone by the All-Star break. I'll put the Kings in this group too. I was a little bullish on them entering the season, but was worried about their defense and figured they'd probably end up in the play-in range. They've exceeded my expectations so far.

What is a reasonable offer it would take for a team to land Kat from Minnesota?  He looks like the odd man out and it looks like Anthony Edwards is the new face of the team and trading Dlo to LA gives Kat an excuse to demand a trade.

Connelly would probably be looking for a package similar to what he gave up for Gobert. Sorta hard to see which team would be willing to pay that price. I've said this before, but KAT has always struck me as someone too loyal to demand a trade. I wonder if that changes at all based on what's happened this year (awkward fit with Gobert, D-Lo trade, frustration related to his injury).

How do you think the rest of the Nets season will go?
Luke Adams
10:48
I see them playing about .500 ball and getting passed by the Knicks and Heat in the standings, resulting in a fall to No. 7. Then they'll lose their first play-in game but win their second and claim the No. 8 seed in the playoffs before getting knocked out in five games in the first round.

Trae Young - Chances hes dealt in the offszn and what kind of return can be expected? Imagine only a few teams would be interested.
Luke Adams
10:49
Don't see a Trae trade (Traede?) happening this offseason. They'll want to give him some time with a new coach to see how things go.
CLT Hornets
10:49
How come the Hornets never play Bouknight? Now would be the perfect time to at least see what they have in him.
Luke Adams
10:50
You're not wrong -- so if they're still not playing him down the stretch this season, we should probably interpret it as a sign that they don't think they have much in him.

Why hasn't Carmelo been signed? Is it a money thing? Because I am sure many teams offered him the vet minimum. A lot of contending teams could use him. This confuses me
Luke Adams
10:52
It's odd to me too. Certainly, he's past his prime and is probably a defensive liability in the postseason, but he's been willing to play a reduced role on vet-minimum contracts in recent years. You'd think a team could find room for him. Now that some guys who have been out of the NBA all season (Zeller, Leonard, etc.) are signing, maybe Carmelo will be next.

Kyle Anderson might have been the best under the radar signing of 2022 free agency. He’s one of the only guys on Minnesota’s roster who knows how to utilize Gobert on offense and his defense has been outstanding. Am I missing someone who has made a similar impact for the MLE or less?
Luke Adams
10:54
I actually wrote about the MLE in the weekly article I sent out to Front Office subscribers this morning, so I was considering this question today too. My pick would probably be Bruce Brown, whom the Nuggets got for the taxpayer MLE. You could make a case for Donte DiVincenzo and a few other guys too, but Anderson is definitely right up there.
Dwight, Boogie, Whiteside
10:55
Hard to believe no team has Signed these 3 Veteran centers, at least for Injury insurance down the stretch .....
Luke Adams
10:56
Well, Howard is technically under contract in Taiwan. And teams still have locker room/chemistry issues about Cousins and Whiteside. But I hear you -- I'm surprised all three have been out of the NBA all season.

Unlike many previous buyouts, there doesn’t seem to be much chatter around Will Barton. Are teams waiting on other buyouts before pursuing him?
Luke Adams
10:58
Yeah, a lot of the other guys who were bought out already had their new destinations lined up by the time they were placed on waivers. You generally don't see players willing give up money if they're not confident about their chances of signing a new contract, so I think it's probably just a matter of time for Barton -- he may be weighing a few options. There was one report about the Sixers kicking the tires that I believe we'll have on the site later today.

With Nate McMillan gone who do you think is going to be the next coach to resign/fired?  My guess would be Silas over in Houston. I mean when you admit you're not running plays for the number 3 pick that's not a good sign
Luke Adams
11:00
Stephen Silas is currently the only coach who I'd be shocked to see back on his team's sidelines next season. You could talk me into the other 28 (not counting the Hawks) being retained, though I'm sure that won't end up happening. I'd keep an eye on the Billy Donovan situation if the Bulls don't finish strong.
Thanks for all the questions today, everyone! We'll be back Tuesday afternoon with our next live chat, hosted by Dana Gauruder.
