I'm hardly the first person to say this, but Anunoby makes a ton of sense for them, and they have the pieces to get him. They haven't really shown much desire to push their chips into the center of the table in the last few years -- will be interesting to see whether that changes this week or this summer.

Do you really buy the Magic having interest in Van Vleet at the deadline? Right now they're 5th in the Wemby tank race, shouldn't they at least wait until the offseason? A core of Banchero + Wagner + a top rookie prospect + FVV seems pretty strong. Even if FVV is older, I'd think he'd be an ideal vet presence.

It's hard for me to imagine a trade that sends VanVleet to Orlando in the next two days. I'm just not really sure they're ready quite yet to give up young players/assets for a win-now vet. He makes more sense as a free agent target.

you mentioned Dallas can offer Irving a 3y deal after the season.   3y and how much?   What can other teams offer?

The Mavs will be able to offer as many as five years this summer, though I doubt they'll do that. The maximum salary projections for next season can be found here (Kyrie is in the highest tier as a 10+ year veteran): https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2022/08/nba-maximum-salary-projections-for...

Who do you think the next superstar(AllNBA level) will be to request a trade not named KD? I have a feeling Trae or Booker depending on the status of the teams by next season.

Trae Young is a good guess, given all the reports we've seen out of Atlanta this season, though if there's tension between him and Nate McMillan, I imagine McMillan will be the first to go. Karl-Anthony Towns is a candidate on paper, with Anthony Edwards emerging as the new franchise player in Minnesota, though KAT seems too loyal to actually do it.

How come a lot of the trades happen on deadline day and not before?

Buyers are waiting to see if prices drop and sellers don't face any real urgency until the deadline arrives. I wish teams were willing to pull the trigger a little earlier, but I understand why many take it down to the wire.
Thanks for all your questions today, guys. Sorry that there were so many I didn't get to -- we'll be doing one more hour-long chat on Thursday before the deadline arrives. Enjoy the next couple days!
