Luke Adams

They should go after the best player available, but I do think - all other factors being equal - that a guard or a wing makes more sense. The Raptors don't really need a center in their optimal lineup.
Wow, we've got a trade!
12:31
Sabonis, Lamb, and Holiday to the Kings in exchange for Haliburton, Hield, and Thompson, according to Woj
So much for Haliburton being untouchable! That's a wild one.
12:32
I may have to cut this chat short to help out on our story on that deal, but let's keep going for at least a few more minutes...

At this point it feels like trading Dame is all but certain. Do you think they wait till he's healthy or go for it now?
Luke Adams
12:33
By the sounds of it, the Blazers still plan on keeping Dame, so it'll be a matter of whether or not he wants to stay. If he wants out, this offseason (after he recovers from his abdominal surgery) would be the time to ask for it.
Artis Gilmour is Underrated
12:33
Do the Pelicans keep Larry Nance?
Luke Adams
12:34
I assume he's Zion insurance for the rest of this season. I could see them moving him in the summer if they're counting on Zion and Valanciunas to be healthy heading into next season.
Crazy
12:35
Kings taking a swing. Hield gone will free up some money but losing Haliburton for such a short term gain hurts.
Luke Adams
12:36
Yeah, I have to admit that Haliburton was the one player I thought they were committed to keeping. A Fox/Sabonis duo is very interesting... they'll need a couple solid defenders to help fill out that lineup. I'm also curious to see where this leaves Richaun Holmes. He's a player who would really appeal to certain teams (Toronto, Charlotte, etc.)

Memphis is a young exciting team. Any moves they might make for a championship run?
Luke Adams
12:38
I'm not expecting much from Memphis this week. Maybe a small move to add one more wing, but I suspect they'll hang onto their 2022 draft ammo (they could have three first-rounders) and see what they can do this offseason.

12:38
Will the Knicks trade me? I feel like my talent is being wasted getting 3 minutes a game.
Luke Adams
12:38
All the latest reports suggest the plan is to trade one or two other guys to make room in the rotation for you. We'll see if that's enough to convince Thibs to give you minutes!

12:39
Do you know if Zion is in shape? They 4-6 weeks 5 weeks ago and now this trade. Does he magically show up like superman???
Luke Adams
12:39
I have no inside info on Zion, but based on how his recovery process has played out, I'd be more worried than encouraged by the fact that there hasn't been any news lately.
Gus Chiggins
12:39
Do T Wolves move Beasley? He hasn't contributed as much given his playing time? Would another team even want him?
Luke Adams
12:40
I was baffled by one report today stating that the Wolves could potentially be convinced to part with Beasley for a first-round pick. I'm not even sure he has positive trade value at this point. He seems like a good candidate to be on the move in the next couple days, so if that happens, we'll see what he's actually worth.
Wizards
12:41
Will we consolidate some of our depth and young assets to trade for Sabonis? What's your prediction?
Luke Adams
12:42
This question was submitted before the Kings news broke -- with the Sabonis option off the table for the Wizards, I wonder if they'd pivot to Turner. I think he'd be a better fit in some ways, but between his injury and Beal's, they might have to be willing to throw in the towel on this season if they went that route.

Who won the trade that woj bomb💣🏀 just announced??
Luke Adams
12:43
I'll have to take a closer look at all the financial details, but my first instinct is that I like the Pacers' side a little more. I admittedly may be biased based on those two teams' recent trade history.

any chance any team takes THT/2027FRP/Nunn package?
Luke Adams
12:44
There will be teams willing to take it. It's just a matter of what the Lakers are willing to settle for. Targets like Eric Gordon, Terrence Ross, etc. could be doable. Jerami Grant, not so much.
Tom Emanski
12:45
Do you expect the Bulls to: (1) sit tight and maybe hit the buyout market, (2) make a minor move or two, or (3) make a big move (involving Cony, Pat, etc.)?  What would you do if you were them?
Luke Adams
12:46
I think option 2 is the frontrunner, followed by option 1. If the Bulls aren't willing to give up Patrick Williams (and it doesn't seem like they are), I'm just not sure there's a bigger deal to be made.

How much posturing do you think GMs are doing through the media vs. what do you think the reality of their asking price is? Most the guys on the block are underperforming assets, yet to your Beasley point, a lot are making huge overasks. Do you think they're delusional? Certainly they don't think they're going to hose an opposing GM on a deal at this professional level? It's not like making a fantasy team trade with your incompetent cousin.
Luke Adams
12:48
Yeah, the item I wrote up about the Wolves/Celtics talks about Richardson/Beasley today felt like a prime example of both sides posturing, thinking they deserved more assets for what they were giving up. It's hard to get a read on how certain players are valued leaguewide until a trade is actually made, and even then, it's hard to say for sure if that trade was a reflection of the leaguewide sentiment or just a bad deal.
For instance, the Blazers got killed for the Powell/Covington trade, but I have to think if they could've gotten a much better package, they would've! Maybe those two guys just weren't as highly valued as we thought.
Will Smith
12:48
Any slimmer of hope that Lakers can trade Russ for anything?
Luke Adams
12:49
I don't think so. It'd be impossible to move him without attaching a first-round pick.
3 team trade
12:49
Any chance this will happen? Makes sense for all 3 teams...

Harden - Nets > 76ers
Simmons - 76ers > Wiz
Beal - Wiz > Nets
Luke Adams
12:50
I'd love it, but I can't see of that trade of that caliber happening during the season. If Harden and Beal both want a change of scenery in the offseason, who knows...

how in the world is troy weaver not more aggressively pursuing ways to improve his long term roster and/or his fairly thin cupboard of picks??  joseph has been playing very well since being inserted into the starting lineup in place of hayes and is on a 5m player option for next season, very valuable for a backup pg i think.  jerami grant is said to have suitors all over the league but weaver doesn't seem inclined to move him, and josh jackson (when healthy) is surely worth a second to be an all d wing off the bench for a good team.  hard to see another season of sitting out the trade deadline when there's so much to fix
Luke Adams
12:51
Joseph and Jackson are OK players, but you're not going to get any difference-making assets for them. Grant is the one really strong trade chip the Pistons have -- they won't want to lower their asking price for him at the deadline when they could just as easily shop him again this summer.

There goes your “finish the chat in peace” idea
Luke Adams
12:51
I'm OK with it. Love a Woj bomb that lays out all the pieces of a surprise trade at once, rather than having to wait for hours for all the details on a deal to trickle out.

Any possible moves if any for the Suns?
Luke Adams
12:52
I imagine they'll see what they can get for Saric, Smith, and a draft pick. That exact package (using a second-rounder, not a first) has been floated as a possibility for Thad Young, which I think I like for both teams.
