What about the Bulls? Buy, sell, stand pat?
Luke Adams
12:39
Somewhere between buying and standing pat, I think. Seems like there are some positive vibes coming out of Chicago right now and I don't think the new front office will mess with those (and risk alienating LaVine) by trading off the vets like Young and Temple.

12:39
Do you think Myles Turner will be traded? If yes, where?
Luke Adams
12:40
I don't think it'll happen, but if it did, I'd watch the Hornets. They've been interested in him for a while.
NYNY
12:41
I would think RJ, Randle, and probably Quickley are not being traded, but do you think there is chance Knicks trade Robinson or Obi for an impact guy?  Do they have enough value?
Luke Adams
12:42
If the Knicks were a little closer to contention, maybe they'd consider it, but they're still a .500 team. I don't see them doing anything drastic with Robinson or Toppin. They'll use Knox, Ntilikina, and their $15MM in cap room for potential upgrades.

12:42
Which franchise do you feel has the worst long term outlook (furthest away from Title contender)?
Luke Adams
12:44
I probably would've said the Timberwolves a few weeks ago, but Edwards, McDaniels, and some of the other young guys have looked pretty good lately. Maybe the Cavs -- they need to get lucky like the Hornets did with LaMelo last year. None of their last few lottery picks looks like a franchise-type player to me.
Blank name
12:45
I keep seeing Drummond mentioned as a fit for the Clippers and it doesn't make sense to me. Ibaka and Zubac have both played well and even if one of them missed time, it seems like the Clippers would be better off going small.
Luke Adams
12:45
I haven't seen much Clippers/Drummond chatter, but I agree with you. Point guard is a more pressing need.
Mike
12:46
Do you see the wizards making a move?
Luke Adams
12:47
Maybe something small. As I wrote in a story this morning, it sounds like they have plenty of guys on the block (Troy Brown, Moritz Wagner, Jerome Robinson, Isaac Bonga, Ish Smith, etc.), but they just don't have much value.

12:47
While it doesnt look like the Bulls will trade Thad Young (they should imo), do you think there's a chance they trade one of Markannen/Carter/White?  They've got young talent but all indications to date are that the young pieces are an awkward fit (and the numbers with Coby, Lavine, PWill, Markky, and Carter together are atrocious)
Luke Adams
12:49
I could see it. Markkanen, in particular, would make sense as a trade chip if they're not ready to pay him in restricted free agency this summer. As I mentioned in a past chat, so far Karnisovas has been basically the antithesis of other new GMs like Rosas and Weaver, who immediately started making trades and blowing up their rosters. So it's hard to count on him doing anything too extreme at the deadline. But if they do make a move, I think it's more likely to involve one of those guys than Thad Young.

12:50
Do you anticipate John Collins being moved during the season or are we looking more at something like a sign and trade if he is offered a max deal as a restricted FA?
Luke Adams
12:53
It seems like there are teams willing to trade for Collins now to make sure they can sign him in restricted free agency (Minnesota, for one). So if the Hawks keep him, I'll be fascinated to see how the situation plays out. I have to imagine they wouldn't get any more in a sign-and-trade in the summer than they would in a trade right now. Maybe they'll be willing to match any offer sheet and hang onto him for a little while longer.

12:53
how about the warriors, will they be active till the trade deadline or will they stay put and start preparing for next season?
Luke Adams
12:54
I wouldn't expect the Warriors to be buyers this season. As much as they'd like to compete for a title during every year of Steph's prime, it just doesn't make sense to go all-in until they have Klay back next year. My best guess is they stand relatively pat.

Can the Lakers do anything? Harrell is an obvious contact to move but his play has improved. Any takers on Harrell?
Luke Adams
12:56
Harrell's production is solid for his price, so it'd be tricky to upgrade on him. The Lakers have the advantage of being an attractive destination for the top guys on the buyout market, so I expect they'll fall back on that rather than doing much on the trade market.
Heat fan
12:57
So many rumors on Heat - Tucker, Oladipo, Lowry, Barnes...but these players are not much of an upgrade over what they have (Oladipo probably best of the group) and not filling their glaring need of a big. Miami is highly unlikely to get Vucevic, Gordon, or Drummond (Magic not going to trade within division) and, of course, Cavs owner still holding a major grudge. Aldridge is ok addition off the bench with Dragic but that's still not filling their need. Riley not likely to stay idle so I ask: Who else is even out there other than Collins (good offensively but poor defender)?
Luke Adams
12:58
There's not much. Thad Young would be a nice fit on the Heat, and the Pacers' bigs are intriguing, but I don't think you're getting any of them this month. If the Heat can't land Vucevic, I wouldn't be surprised if they go after a lower-cost stopgap (Tucker, Bjelica, etc.), then resume the hunt for a difference-maker in the offseason.
Luke Richards
12:59
Do you see the Raptors making a move?
Luke Adams
1:00
A Lowry deal is unlikely unless he wants it (in which case, Philly looks like the most logical destination). I also think it'd be tough to get good value for Powell, given his pending free agency. Wouldn't surprise me if the Raptors just make a small move to try to upgrade the center spot.

Gut feeling...think the Rockets wind up holding onto their pick this year and getting a difference maker in the draft? I feel like we’re due some good juju after all this crap this year so far
Luke Adams
1:03
The lottery is going to be wild this year, with the Wolves trying to hang onto their top-three protected pick and the Rockets in the same position with their top-four protected pick. I'll be a Houston optimist and predict they'll hold onto that pick, but it'll be interesting to see what happens if they start winning again with Wood back...

What do you see the Pistons doing at the deadline? Do you think they will move Plumlee and/or Wright?
Luke Adams
1:04
I'm guessing Ellington is traded for the best offer. Wouldn't surprise me if at least one of Plumlee or Wright is dealt too. Weaver really likes to stay active.

Do you think Whiteside would be differential to the lakers if he finally lands there?
Luke Adams
1:04
I don't think he'd see much playing time in the postseason if Davis is healthy.

Interesting that the Wolves seem so far away from contention. It would be easy to assume a team with KAT has a head-start in the star-acquiring side. Is he not perceived as a true number 1? Or is he considered a good stats bad team guy?
Luke Adams
1:07
The good-stats-bad-team label might be harsh, but it's fair to say there's a growing body of evidence that he can't singlehandedly carry a team to playoff contention. If he were paired with a strong co-star, we'd probably think of him differently, but he hasn't had that since Jimmy Butler.
Just my opinion
1:07
Does Isaiah Thomas get a job or what? I realize the brinks truck idea would never happen but how is he not a better bench option on most nba teams???
Luke Adams
1:08
He's pretty bad defensively -- guys like that would get picked on relentlessly in playoff games. I'd like to see him get a shot though.
Warriors DPE
1:08
Can the Warriors use their $9M Disabled Player Exception (for Klay Thompson) to Sign a soon-to-be Bought-out Player?  Is that allowed?
Luke Adams
1:10
Assuming the player is bought out and clears waivers, sure. The Warriors' tax bill is already really high though, so even if they just offer $3MM of that DPE to a free agent, it'd cost them exponentially more in taxes. I'm not sure it's worth it considering they don't look like a title contender this year.

What is Danny Ainge and my Celtics going to due at the deadline? Is harrison Barnes still in play with Bagley injured?
Luke Adams
1:11
Barnes still seems to be the Celtics' most likely target and I don't see Bagley's injury changing that, unless the Kings win their next few games and decide they can make the playoffs. I also think the Celtics would go after Aldridge aggressively if he's bought out.

Thanks for all the questions today, guys! We'll do this again next Tuesday and may have much more to discuss by then.
Have a great week!
