I can't imagine you're traded before this season's deadline. Your salary is just too high. But a buyout with one year left on your deal also seems sort of silly. I'll be curious to see just how eager the Pistons are to resolve this situation -- waiting until the offseason probably makes more sense, but that's a long time to keep you on ice!

Which trade would you personally like to see before march deadline that would include former all star player?
Luke Adams
12:42
It won't happen, but I'd love to see a Bradley Beal/Michael Porter trade between the Nuggets and Wizards. Denver would be scary with a Big 3 of Jokic, Beal, and Murray, and Porter would get the chance to be a centerpiece for a young team rather than a third option.

Where do you see Victor Oladipo ending up? With him turning down the Rockets extension I have to believe they will trade him before the deadline.
Luke Adams
12:44
Oladipo is one of the more interesting trade candidates out there because his salary ($21MM) is actually pretty easily matchable for most teams. The Knicks, Heat, Mavs, Sixers, Nuggets, and a few others could all make some sense. I think Oladipo's more likely than not to be dealt this month.

Should the Raptors explore trading Siakam before its too late, Hes more of a Robin than a Batman. Probably the best #2 you could ask for. But as a #1 he struggles too much. Is there hope for him to ever be a #1
Luke Adams
12:47
I don't think there's anything out there worth trading Siakam for at the moment, and I don't think there's any rush to move him "before it's too late" -- his stock has plateaued a little since peaking last season, but it shouldn't drop anytime soon.

what will the Pistons do at the deadline? They have some solid vets on fairly cheap contracts like Delon Wright, Mason Plumlee and Wayne Ellington who could be attractive to contenders.
Luke Adams
12:49
Troy Weaver is another one of the new GMs who has shown no reluctance to blow things up right away, so I could definitely see him making a couple more moves at the deadline. Ellington is the most logical trade candidate on the roster, given his price and his role -- you could probably get a second-round pick for him. The team's investment in Plumlee even during a rebuild makes me think he's probably not going anywhere, but I could see Wright on the trade block too.

Are the Clippers title contenders as they stand? If not who is a good fit to help?
Luke Adams
12:50
They're title contenders as is, though that doesn't mean the roster's perfect. A play-making point guard would still help them, but it'll be hard to find one worth adding on the trade market without giving up part of their current rotation.

Are the trail-blazers title contenders when they get mccollum and nurkic back?
Luke Adams
12:52
I want to believe they are, since I'd love to see Dame in the Finals. I'm worried they're still missing one dynamic two-way wing though -- Covington and Jones aren't quite at that level.

I know that Drummond and McGee are likely only going to net second round picks, expiring contracts and/or young bench player types.  What would they get if they floated Osman or Prince out there?  Or maybe with Drummond or McGee to get more value back
Luke Adams
12:55
Prince's value has probably increased a little since he joined the Cavs, but I'm still not sure you'd get anything of value for him -- he was basically a salary-dump in the Allen trade. Osman is a little more intriguing, especially given the way his contract declines in value. But his shooting numbers this year are a little worrisome. Don't think you're getting a major asset in return for him either.

How come that really nobody in nba even loosing teams takes a chance on guys like IT, Cousins and Farried? Makes no sense or whar?
Luke Adams
12:57
IT and Cousins were never great defenders and injuries affected their mobility. Teams probably feel their offensive contributions aren't worth the issues they'd create on D. As for Faried, it's hard for big men who can't stretch the floor or protect the rim to get work. Faried brings energy and rebounding, but not a whole lot else.

Would Paul and/or Jrue opt out and go to a new team? Knicks would surely be in on either one, maybe a 2/60 for CP and max for Jrue.
Luke Adams
12:59
I doubt Jrue would jump ship on the Bucks unless something goes really wrong in the next few months. They'll overpay to keep him. As for CP3, as well as he's still playing, it's just really hard to see him opting out of a $44MM salary at age 36.
Hornets
12:59
Do you expect us to be aggressive at the trade deadline?  Feels like we need a big man and we do have contracts (like Cody Zeller) that would be useful in putting a deal together.
Luke Adams

The Hornets surprised me with their aggressiveness on Hayward, and it's worked pretty well so far, so why stop now! I could definitely see them taking another swing at the deadline -- they're one of the few teams that could match up with the Cavs for Drummond.

It feels like from what a lot of journalists have said Lebron might have a strong enough narrative to win MVP no matter the stats and advance stats Embiid or Jokic put up unless it is a major difference. What about seeding though? Where would the Lakers have to finish in the West to where Embiid and Jokic might get stronger consideration based on where their teams place?
Luke Adams
1:03
The Sixers hanging onto the No. 1 seed in the East would certainly bolster Embiid's case, but I think as long as the Lakers finish in the top three or four, that wouldn't be a major factor working against LeBron. On the other hand, if the Lakers can surpass the Jazz and finish No. 1 in the West, I think that'd REALLY work in LeBron's favor -- to do that without AD available for a chunk of the season would be impressive.

Over the past two summers, many All-NBA caliber players have switched teams. Do you expect more of the same or a quieter off season this year?
Luke Adams
1:05
The great thing about the NBA is that just when you think you're in for a quiet offseason, a new star is unexpectedly asking for a trade and you're off to the races. I expected a fairly quiet offseason in 2020, with Chris Paul maybe being the highest-profile guy moved -- instead, we got the Holiday, Westbrook, and Wall trades, with Harden and Oladipo following shortly thereafter. I imagine there will be at least one star on the move this offseason who isn't squarely on our radar as a trade candidate right now.

How do extensions affect a player's salary cap hit in trades? I'm thinking specifically of Luke Kennard, who makes around $5 mil right now, but whose deal jumps to over $12 million next year. If the Clips want to move him (since he's out of the rotation now) what salary are they matching?

I love answering cap and CBA questions and welcome many more in the future, but since we're at the end of our hour, I'll have to address this one by saying, "It's complicated" and direct you to our glossary entry on the poison pill provision: https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2018/10/hoops-rumors-glossary-poison-pill-...
