Yeah, I think he's earned it. If the Cavs don't give him that deal, another team will.

Let's say we get lucky and get the No. 1 pick in the draft. Who would you take if you were the GM?

I don't watch enough college ball to have a strong opinion on whether Holmgren or Smith or Banchero is the top prospect, but I hope the Kings learned their lesson in 2018 and would take the player who's on top of their board this time around, instead of worrying about the potential fit alongside Sabonis.

Am I the MVP?  seems like advanced metrics say so, but I think public opinion from bigger markets hurt my chances of repeating

I think you'd probably have my vote, but I wouldn't fault anyone for picking Embiid or Giannis this season. They're all worthy choices and would have been the obvious MVP in a bunch of other seasons.

Thanks for leading another great chat, Luke. Got a couple questions for you regarding competitive balance. (1) What do you think about scrapping the draft lottery and awarding the #1 pick to the team that just missed the playoffs? (In other words, if you tank to last, you'd be picking #10, next to last would pick #9, etc.) (2) What about scrapping the lottery and making a mid-season tourney the award for the lottery picks. For example, if you had a 3 pt shootout, dunk contest, All Star Game, etc. each team would send participants and award points for top finishes in each event. The most team points gets the #1 pick, so on and so forth. I feel that would bring a lot of star power back to those competitions (we all know LeBron would still kill the youngsters in the dunk contest if he got to/would play).

I'm open to ideas about reworking the lottery, but I'm also sympathetic to the fact that a lot of the teams who finish at the bottom of the standings are simply bad and are the teams most in need of lottery help -- flipping the odds is a good idea in theory, but I think it would really bury certain teams and make the idea of significantly improving the roster feel hopeless.

As for the second idea, I just don't know that current veteran players would be that motivated to get their team a high lottery pick. There's no guarantee you'd even be on the team next season to reap the rewards of that pick, and even if you were, maybe that newly-drafted rookie eats into your minutes and hurts your value.

What trade makes too much sense not to happen this offseason?

I don't know if it "makes too much sense," but based on the amount of chatter we've heard about it over the last couple months, I feel like Jerami Grant to Portland might be the safest bet, especially if the Blazers end up with the Pelicans' first-round pick.
Thanks for all your questions today, guys! Dana will be back on Thursday at 11 am CT for our next live chat. Enjoy the final week of the regular season!
