I recognize my basketball expertise lies more on the CBA/cap side of things than as a scout, so I'm inclined to defer to the experts on Bailey. And the general consensus seems to be that the reward and the risk are both relatively high.

Daryl Morey isn't one to shy away from risk, so he could absolutely draft Bailey at that spot. But I also believe a more NBA-ready role player would make more sense for the Sixers, so I really like the idea of them trading down to No. 5 or 6 -- both Utah and Washington are better suited to take a swing on a star-level guy, and the Jazz especially could make it worth the Sixers' while with some of their future draft assets.

I know Morey has said he'll keep that pick, but I hope he's open-minded about it. There are some intriguing possibilities there.

if the Grizz upgrade their (glaring lack of) depth at Center this year, who would be a good target?

Maybe one side or the other wouldn't be interested in a reunion, but I kinda think Steven Adams would be a perfect fit? They could really use more toughness and rebounding in that spot.

So if you're the Timberwolves who would you rather face in the Western conference finals and why

Gimme the Nuggets. The Timberwolves won that series last year and I don't think this year's Denver team is any better than the 2024 version. Minnesota is capable of beating OKC, but that looks to me like the less favorable matchup.

It's not just about the lottery though, as a fan I'm way more concerned about the roster construction limitations and penalties.  Good teams are forced to shed talent, teams in purgatory are forced to overpay for middling talent or rely on a fluky lottery and bad teams don't have any means of using their depleted roster to acquire additional assets.  Contracts tied to the cap are becoming scarlet letters for superstars and teams are finding it harder to extract fair value for their talent.  For example, it's going to be next to impossible for MIL to get a fair return on Giannis because of how much the CBA has impacted valuation systems and metrics.

(This is a follow-up to an exchange earlier in the chat.)

I hear where you're coming from, and this issue probably requires a more thorough discussion than this space provides. But I'm not sure I agree that teams are having a harder time extracting fair value for talent and I'd like to see the impact of this CBA over the next few years now that the cap is set to start rising by 10% annually again before making any sweeping judgments about it. Still feels too early to me.
Thanks for the great questions today, guys. Enjoy the week and we'll do this again next Thursday!
