How can the kings realistically move up the draft boards, do you see it happening?
Luke Adams
12:47
I think it's a long shot. There's seemingly a cutoff after the top three in this year's draft, so it'd take a lot to move up even one spot. And if the Kings have assets they're willing to part with, they'd probably rather use them on win-now help than to land a 19-year-old.

Whatโ€™s my first move in my new role? If itโ€™s a Russell trade, whatโ€™s my best case scenario on a return?
Luke Adams
12:49
I'm skeptical that D-Lo has much trade value at the moment. It's certainly worthwhile to see what's out there, and I assume Connelly will do that, but I don't think you're getting back a starting-caliber player and a draft pick for him or anything. Maybe a couple rotation guys on multiyear contracts (sorta like Dallas' return on Porzingis).

Does the fanspo trade machine work well? If so, does that mean a OKC absorption of Westbrook's contract for Favors does not work?
Luke Adams
12:52
Haven't used the Fanspo trade machine before, so I can't speak to its effectiveness (or lack thereof), but I believe it's accurate that a Westbrook/Favors swap wouldn't work straight up. Last I checked, OKC was something like $31-32MM below the cap, and there's a $34MM+ gap between the Westbrook and Favors salaries this season.

What are the Thunder's options for Dort? How large can an extension or new contract be for him?
Luke Adams
12:54
The Thunder have a few options with Dort:
  1. Turn down his minimum-salary team option for 2022/23 to make him a restricted free agent, at which point they could re-sign him for any amount up to his max and would be able to match any offer sheet he signs.
  2. Pick up his minimum-salary team option for 2022/23 and try to extend him. I believe in that scenario they'll be limited to about $60MM over four years this offseason.
  3. Pick up his team option and play out the season, then try to re-sign him in unrestricted free agency in 2023 (where, again, he could get anything up to the max).
12:55
My assumption is that OKC's preferred option would be number 2. But they'll likely try to get a sense of whether he'd take that four-year/$60MM deal before they officially pick up his option.

Noting Tim Connelly's Minny promotion and equity shares... It's altogether very interesting how the CBA in its current incarnation permits a $40MM executive to score an ownership stake, yet players w/ contracts 5X the size and a more vested interest or moreover former/ retired players have to collaborate w/ titans of industry/private equity firms just to even have a chance at fractions of a percent in a franchise. The NBPA leadership continues to suck hindquarters and the avarice of the superstars is costing the entire player pool a golden opportunity to cash in tremendously. What's your assessment of this disconnect between the gamut of pros and the All-NBAer/All-Star elite, Luke?
Luke Adams
12:56
Honestly, it's not an issue I've thought much about and it's complicated enough that I don't want to just spout off some take that I came up with in 30 seconds, but I wanted to publish this question since it's a thoughtful one.
12:57
I'd certainly be curious to see how Connelly's deal compares with, say, Dwyane Wade's stake in the Jazz. We haven't heard much about the specifics of Connelly's agreement yet.

Didn't the Sixers offer both Butler and Harris the max? Tobias accepted and Jimmy rejected to be "the guy" elsewhere. Or is that not the way it went down?

(Clearly I'm still figuring out how Jotcast embeds tweets. Here's the link to the thread if that's easier.)
Appreciate all the questions today, guys, thanks! Dana will be back on Thursday morning for our next live chat. Have a great week.
