I'm hesitant to judge coaches based on how they perform in their first job, since - like players - they're not finished products and can improve greatly with added experience. That said, Nash's performance with the Nets didn't inspire a ton of confidence and I'm not sure I'd be ready to give him another head coaching job already. There are probably better options out there for Toronto.

That reminds me that I forgot to make a prediction for the Raptors' next coach when I made my guesses earlier. That one's wide open, with no reported finalists yet, but let's say Jordi Fernandez for them.

No, his up-and-down postseason doesn't outweigh the rest of his résumé. His next deal might not be worth $30MMish per year like his last one, but I'd be shocked if it's less than $20-25MM per year.

Are the Bulls just going to be stuck in purgatory? Seems like they should have blown it up at the deadline. I know they didn’t have their lottery pick this year, it was top 4 protected. But this team makes me yawn.

They're a team like the Wizards that probably should be launching a rebuild instead of retaining the current group with limited assets for upgrades. But if they can find a way to acquire a starting-caliber point guard by adding a few sweeteners to Lonzo Ball in a trade package, they could be a whole lot more interesting next season.

Do you expect upcoming cap stuff to affect how rookie contracts are valued? Stricter tax in CBA could make that cost control more coveted but on other hand there are cap jumps expected with new tv contract that could make a lot of teams less concerned about spending

The rookie scale increases at the same rate as the salary cap, so I doubt there will be any major changes to how those contracts are valued -- they'll still be coveted, but probably not any more than they have been for years.
