How important would starting/playing 30 mins be for a free agent like Oladipo? Seems like he's got a choice between being on a bad team and playing big minutes, or being on a competitive team as a 6th man type. If I'm him, I'm definitely choosing the rebuilding situation to re-establish myself.
Dana Gauruder
11:03
Oladipo is one of the more interesting FAs on the market. The injuries have given other teams pause and I don't know how much value he rebuilt during the latter stages of the season/postseason. Probably his best hope is a mid-level or a portion of the mid-level. I doubt there's a team out there looking at him as a 30-35 minute player at this point. More likely, the promise of being a steady rotation player and showing he can get through a season without any major setbacks. I'd guess he'll get a two-year deal with an option.

Any trades the Pistons might pull off or any free agents they may sign?
Dana Gauruder
11:05
I think the Pistons have done a majority of their moves already. The draft  worked out so well that the need/desire to chase Brunson or Ayton in free agency dwindled. They actually have more than enough big men now and will probably re-sign Bagley, too. I think they're in the market for another wing player and I'm sure they'd like to dump Olynyk's contract, since he doesn't appear to be part of the rotation. Otherwise, I don't see them doing a whole lot more.

How long do you expect our rebuild to take? Are we going the fast route and be back contending in a year or two or do you sense a slow and steady approach?
Dana Gauruder
11:07
The fact they're willing to deal a 25-year old player like Murray entering his prime after a really strong season says to me 'Major rebuild.' I don't see any other way to read that situation. They obviously didn't consider Murray a max type player despite those numbers. I think the Spurs will continue to accumulate assets over the next couple of years. And there will be a lot of losses along the way.
Bucks
11:08
What should the bucks do with the 6.2 million tax payer a big or a backup PG
Dana Gauruder
11:10
Depends on the players they're chasing. They could theoretically split up the mid-level in some fashion. I would think they'd rather fortify the backcourt with the mid-level, since there seems to be plenty of backup centers on the markets they could get on a vet minimum deal.

If the Mavericks are set on letting Brunson go, any sign and trade scenarios?
Dana Gauruder
11:12
After all the Knicks did to clear cap space to sign Brunson, the obvious thing would be for the Mavs to get some sort of assets for him, perhaps a big trade exception as part of the deal. At this point, I'd be very surprised if Brunson doesn't end up with the Knicks, where they just sign or do the sign and trade with the Mavs.

What are the chances the Pacers trade Brogdon and/or Turner and what kind of return can fans expect?
Dana Gauruder
11:14
I see Brogdon being on the move. Indiana has plenty of backcourt options and his PT would likely be diminished if they retained him. Turner's situation is a little bit different. There are teams out there that like him and would obviously benefit from having his shotblocking presence. Charlotte and Toronto seem like obvious fits. But the Pacers want a nice package in return, so just a matter of whether they can find something they like. They could always wait until the trade deadline if nothing surfaces in the summer.

There has been talk that the knicks might make other moves, are there any other names that the knicks might be after via trade?
Dana Gauruder
11:16
I don't see the Knicks just saying, 'We got Brunson, we're all set.' They'd like to get another rotation player and it appears they'll be retooling their frontcourt. Re-signing Robinson and adding another big are on the agenda. For Knicks fans, this is going to be a very interesting 7-10 days coming up.

Do all the big name FA's come off the board right away or do you expect a slow start?
Dana Gauruder
11:18
In recent years, the process has accelerated, in part because of COVID and revamped starts to free agency. Most agents seem to be in a 'let's get this done' mode nowadays. So, I expect a flurry of activity through the weekend with most of the big names coming off the board.

Do I look at trying to acquire Poeltl from the Spurs if they're looking to offload veteran contracts? A few picks, Powell, and Green to San Antonio?
Dana Gauruder
11:21
Dallas has to do something in the backcourt with Brunson heading to NY in all likelihood. Perhaps the Mavs can address that need in free agency. The Mavs seem to value Kleber more than Powell, so they'll try hard to move him. Yes, I could certainly conceive of SA moving Poeltl for the right package -- picks being part of the deal.
Hey! Ho! Let's go!
11:22
Thoughts on Wizards-Nuggets trade?
Dana Gauruder
11:26
I liked it more from the Wizards' aspect. They got a good, if not spectacular, starting PG to pair up with Beal. Barton has an expiring contract, but another rotation player for Washington. Not sure how KCP fits in that Denver rotation. I wonder if that's a precursor to another move. For Ish, I believe it's the 13th team he's been on. One of the ultimate journeymen!

How do you think bridges contract is effected with the domestic violence charge? what contrtact was he looking at before, what about now? is he looking at a suspension?
Dana Gauruder
11:29
Way too early to tell until all the details come out. The Hornets issued the usual 'gathering information' statement regarding the issue. Certainly, the timing of this is about as bad as it could be for someone entering free agency. Bridges' market seemed to be shrinking, so I think he'll wind up sticking in Charlotte. But obviously we have to see about the severity of his incident and how that all factors into it.
MLE
11:29
The market seems depressed based on what most teams have to offer (a lot of tax payer and non-tax payer MLEs).
Dana Gauruder
11:32
I think it's just a different era. More players, particularly the top ones, end up getting extensions before reaching free agency. Ayton's situation is an exception. So, more teams are locked into salaries and don't have the space to go on big shopping sprees. They're more reliant on sign and trades. However, most teams do use those exceptions and you'll see plenty of agreements reached over the next 48-72 hours.

Clippers now the favorites with a Big 3 of Leonard, George, Wall?
Dana Gauruder
11:36
Given the injury history of that trio, I don't think you can look at them as the favorites. They're certainly in the top 4 or 5 in the West. You've got the defending champions -- with some young talent ready to contribute -- over there. Plus, some really good young teams like Memphis and New Orleans. And the Suns are coming off a 64-win season -- can't discount them, either. It's great for the NBA that there are lots of potential contenders in both conferences -- we went through a stretch where the was a powerhouse team or two and very little drama.
Nerlens Noel
11:37
Am I really staying in Detroit or are there teams out there who could be interested in my services?
Dana Gauruder
11:38
I was somewhat surprised the Pistons took Noel off the Knicks' hands, as well as Burks. It wouldn't surprise me, given Troy Weaver's track record, if Noel got moved, too. But I think it's more likely Olynyk is the odd man out.
Celtics
11:38
Shouldn’t we be in the mix for a point guard like Brunson to free up Tatum and have a chance to get back to the Finals and possibly win it this time?
Dana Gauruder
11:40
Brunson is an unrestricted free agent. He has the ability to choose where he wants to go. Only way Boston could get him on a big money deal would be a sign and trade, where the Celtics would have to give up assets. New York can just sign him with cap space without having to do a sign and trade.

Do you think Collins still wants to be traded?
Dana Gauruder
11:41
Seems more like the other way around. Atlanta kind of waffled on giving Collins big money, then relented after that run to the EC Finals in 2021. Now, they apparently have buyer's remorse but there's not a huge market for Collins' contract. I do like the Murray move -- that should be one heck of a backcourt.
Steve
11:42
How about your prediction on Ayton?
Dana Gauruder
11:42
I'd be surprised if he wound up staying in Phoenix. Just seems to be too much animosity there -- sign and trade to Toronto or even Minnesota makes more sense.

Is there any buzz on if the Hornets are gonna shed some long term money like Hayward and Roizer and would westbrook trade and buyout be an option?
Dana Gauruder
11:46
I think Charlotte would like shed a big contract, particularly Hayward's deal. Tough to do, given his injury history. If they traded for Westbrook's contract and did a buyout, it wouldn't help them in the short run. That money would still be on their cap.
Josh B
11:46
Does a Rudy Golbert trade put the Bulls in the conversation for Top 3 team in the East?
Dana Gauruder
11:48
Depends on what they'd give up and whether LaVine re-signs. I'd have to believe the Jazz would hold out for P. Williams in that deal, so then you open up a hole at PF. Gobert no doubt would aid the Bulls defensively, though Vuc is much more skilled offensively.
Warren
11:48
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere, but what do you think of T.J. Warren to Detroit on a 1 year "prove it" deal? Maybe $10 mill. Pistons struggled to make shots last year and he's a bucket when healthy. Hole at forward with Grant trade and could flip Warren at deadline if he plays well, and if not, he'll be expiring.
Dana Gauruder
11:50
I've heard Warren mentioned as a potential target for the Pistons. He's missed pretty much 2 years, so that would be a pretty big leap of faith that he'd regain his old form. But if the Pistons are intent on preserving cap space for next summer, then doing a two-year deal with a FA with a team option would make sense.
