As for Lillard, beyond the fact that I don't think he wants to end up in Boston, I'm not sure the Celtics are a great match for the Blazers, given what they have to offer. The C's can offer solid vets, but Portland will be looking for younger, higher-upside guys.

Will Detroit trade anybody before next season
Luke Adams
12:42
Troy Weaver has made trades in each of the last two Septembers, so I certainly wouldn't expect him to turn off his phone. I don't necessarily expect anything big involving Bojan Bogdanovic, but it wouldn't shock me if Killian Hayes is playing elsewhere when the season begins. Moving a frontcourt player would make some sense too, but Duren and Stewart aren't going anywhere, Bagley doesn't have positive value, and they probably want a longer look at Wiseman.

3-team deal with MIN - NYK - CHA, Hornets S&T PJ Washington as part of KAT to NYK

-- NYK get KAT, Jordan McLaughlin
-- CHA gets Mitchell Robinson and Wendell Moore Jr
-- MIN gets PJ (4 yr, AAV $18M), Quickley, Fournier, X number of NYK future FRPs (2?)

Knicks land another star to contend and get off Fournier, Wolves lock-in a young long-term core + an expiring deal, CHA upgrades at C on a descending contract while ending their standoff with PJ. Who says no?

It's definitely a creative structure. I do think if the Knicks start to push their chips in, they'll want someone who's a better two-way player than Towns -- as good as he is on offense, I think his defense would frustrate Tom Thibodeau. Doesn't sound like the Wolves are ready to seriously consider moving him yet either. But it's a fun idea.

Did a lot of teams make a mistake in not drafting Cam Whitmore?
Luke Adams
12:45
It's possible. But I'll need more than a good Summer League to be convinced.

my team is in shambles, what can I do with the DPE to help the direction? Christian Wood as our bench scorer? We have no offense outside of Zach Demar and Vuc
Luke Adams
12:47
I'm just not convinced that DPE is gonna turn into anything too useful for the Bulls. With the possible exception of PJ Washington (who wouldn't be attainable with the DPE), none of the free agents left are gonna move the needle much in 2023/24, and even if they were, I'm not sure the Bulls would go into the tax to get one.

What are the chances that Isaiah mobley, emoni bates, or Sam Merrill become roll players on the back of the bench this year...I know it was summer league but there seems to be upside there!
Luke Adams
12:49
Bates has some longer-term upside, but it's hard to picture him playing a real role for the Cavs as a rookie. I don't see Merrill or Mobley stepping up and earning regular minutes this season either, but maybe an injury will open the door and they'll surprise me.

When is the time to start to worry about Cade and the Pistons. There’s a lot of criticism on the Rockets in the past few years. But Detroit aren’t exactly better. As highly as everyone rates Cade he hasn’t played enough to be seen as a franchise lock. And what he has played his efficiency has been poor (which is the apparent excuse the underrate other good players). At what point does he become an injury prone “what if” that never took that step. Coupled with their other young players that haven’t been overwhelming successes I doubt there will be much improvement this season. Is there alarm bells coming if that happens.

Cade hasn't even played the equivalent of a full season (he's at 76 games) and nearly all of those games happened when he was still 20 years old. So I'm not worried about him yet. But if he stays healthy and struggles to produce efficiently this season, it would be cause for some concern. He'll be extension-eligible already in 2024, so the Pistons will definitely want to see him take a real step forward this season.

Thunder make the playoffs this year?
Luke Adams
12:53
My instinct is to say yes, since I love their core. But the West is so deep that a couple talented teams are gonna miss out. It's possible the Thunder will be one. (Is this a cop-out answer? Absolutely. But it's also July 20. Let me see the the October rosters before I make any solid playoff predictions!).

Assuming Bol Bol pans out, do you see the Suns moving Ayton at the trade deadline for a defensive-minded center and backup PG?
Luke Adams
12:55
I would be shocked if Bol Bol plays well enough to make Deandre Ayton expendable. I just don't think Bol is at that level and I don't think the Suns expect him to be (let's not forget the Magic just waived him rather than pay him a measly $2.2MM salary!). But Ayton is the only non-Durant/Booker/Beal player earning more than the minimum on the Suns' roster, so he's their only real trade candidate left if they want to do anything major. Gonna be very interesting to see how the first couple months of the season go in Phoenix.
