If you were Golden State, who would you actively want to get in exchange for kuminga? They don't seem super interested in what sac and phx have to offer, but are there 3-teamers that you'd have on a (realistic) warriors wish list?

I'd be targeting quality players earning around $10MM or less, especially from teams who might need/want to shed salary. Guys like Sam Hauser and a few Mavs (Christie, Marshall, Martin) immediately come to mind. The Magic might have a couple, though the one I'd want most (Moritz Wagner) isn't trade-eligible yet. I'd need to look more thoroughly to come up with a comprehensive list.

I can not find the base year compensation rule in the new cba.
Luke Adams

It's on page 243, within the "Traded Player Exception" section.

I'll try to find the page number in the CBA for this before I end the chat.

Seems like the Warriors want more than the market wants to give in a sign and trade and he doesn't fit the current roster.   Why doesn't the Warriors sign Melton,  Horford, Curry and Payton and let Kuminga sign an offer sheet.   Then they can determine if they want to make trades of Hield and Moody to match.   Otherwise let him go.   Salary dumps from other teams and 2nd round picks are not valuable.  No team has the cap room to give Kuminga what he wants.  He is talented but the team loses when he is on the court. He wants star money and he's not been given the court time to maximize his potential.  Let him go and move on.

Their leverage for Moody and Hield trades in that scenario would be pretty awful, given that trade partners would know they have to move them within 48 hours.

The Warriors still view Kuminga as a player with real value and I think they'd actually like to bring him back and trade him down the line in order to preserve that salary slot. As long as the free agents they're eyeing are willing to wait, there's no reason to rush the process. Training camps are still almost two months away!

It seems like agents are mostly pointing to meh to very bad deals as comparisons and saying they want that. Like I get it, but you can understand why teams are like, no I dont want the Poole/Quickly contracts on my books.

Entirely fair, and probably safe to assume that would be the team's counter if those players are used as comparables. Though I do think a $30MM per year salary will look much more manageable by the end of some of these contracts than it does now.

Why isn't Malcolm Brogdon signed? Are teams waiting to see what happens with the RFAs before they sign people like him and Simmons?
Luke Adams

There's not necessarily a direct cause-and-effect, but there's absolutely a ripple effect that's slowing down the market for some of those guys. Like, if the Kings are a legitimate option for Simmons, they may need to first figure out if they actually have room (in terms of roster space, cap flexibility, and a spot in the rotation), which would require getting resolution on Kuminga.

Can a restricted free agent who accepts his team’s qualifying offer be flipped at any point in the impending season?
Luke Adams
2:19
Most of the big four RFAs would be ineligible to be dealt until January 15 if they accept their QOs -- it would likely be Dec. 15 for Cam Thomas and the Nets, though it would depend on the exact timing (Dec. 15 if they're still under the cap, Jan. 15 if they're not).

Can the knicks make a trade for kuminga using Mikal Bridges? If so how would  that deal have to be constructed?
Luke Adams

I'm sure if you spent long enough trying to figure it out, you could come up with something that worked, but it would have to involve way more teams and players than just those two, and I don't think it's something that would interest the Knicks.

Appreciate all the questions today, guys! Wasn't sure we'd be able to stick to RFA talk for the whole time, but there was more than enough to talk about. With August about to begin, hopefully we start getting resolution on some of these situations soon.

Have a great week!
